  1. Yeah, is the 'spawning vats' themselves supposed to be the UAC cylinders in that corridor in the north-west, before the inverted cross room? Is that what is 'spawning' or creating all the monsters that have taken over Deimos and Phobos?? This was also alluded to in the Doom novel. This level has a strange sense of story-telling to it, what with it's combo of techbase and hellish. It was also one of the first levels made, it was originally going to be level one back in the beta versions, it even has a distinct element shared with another level (the damaging string of blue floor lights, just like in E2M2, another very early level). Sorry, this level is quite fascinating to me. Yeah I would totally make my place E1M1 if I was an Elon
  2. I'd have to base it on that mod of E1 where all the levels flow one after the other, like all the bases were right next to each other
  3. Is it just me, or does this seem like a recipe for absolute disaster??
  4. Doomguy was originally going to be voiced by Jon St. John, and was going to at various points in the game say things like "It's Doomin' time!!", "Rip and tear, baby!", "That's a big friggin' gun!", and of course, "What does anomaly mean?" John Carmack, however, fired him for having a stupid name. This of course was long before American McGee came on board.
  5. Can still remember clear to this day jumping in my seat when I opened the exit door in E3M4 and there was a cacodemon right in my face. And also one time I nearly beat map08 but got creamed in the white room with all the imps and the barons, and realised I was like hyperventilating. Good times. And I'm disappointed nobody has yet talked about how scary the first time one encountered the 'ouch' face was.
  6. Hey, c'mon, it's like a rite of passage for new forum members, and I like exercising my brain, running through the old-school maps once again. Doom the First, it's an easy E1M3, E2M2, E3M6 and E4M6, with E1M3 being the best in regular Doom I and E4M6 the best in Ultimate Doom; Doom II, The Living End hands down (with Abandoned Mines a close second). Plutonia, either Odyssey Of Noises for it's ambitious hugeness, or Go2It for the sheer insanity. And TNT...... you know what? I'll go Deepest Reaches
  7. I only recently started playing with mouse. Straight up, the last like 25 years was keyboard only. Yeah I'm a bit weird like that
  8. Yes, I remember MNTFIRE well, the epic underground volcano one
  9. I could provide a list :-) Good luck - where you at in the process?
  10. Okay, top of my head: Doom - Episodes 1-3 easily the secret levels, but as for a 'proper' level, definitely ol' Limbo - if we're talking Ultimate Doom, then, the prize would totally go to E4M4, The Shittening Doom II - Nirvana of course, sorry Dave TNT - goddamn Habitat Plutonia - ummmmmm.... actually, I always hated Aztec
  11. I'll go with Mr. Cyberdemon. If you don't expect them in a inside, close-quarters level, they can be quite pants-fillingly terrifying when you run into one
  12. I noticed this at the start of map29 The Living End, if you stand in front of the red button at the start, the hell knight waaaay off in the distance will occasionally take pot-shots at you that will always hit above your head.
  13. It's levels like that which, in my opinion, make Maximum Doom worth going through. Utter glorious insanity.
  14. Would have the texture of old elbow skin.
  15. Still finding out more about my favourite UDoom map, E4M6 - as soon as you make a sound, certain enemies get alerted through the starting area and well into the fortress, all the way to the baron and the three cacos in the northern yellow key area.
  16. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
  17. E4M4. Especially after the first three levels of that episode, it's like wtf
