As far as I remember only the chaingun has tracers.

Try some of the config settings in this thread:

I'm curious: is there a visit to hell in Episode 3? It's of course not mandatory, but I would love to see a Team Future version of hell.

Project Eden, an action-adventure by Core Design, released 2001. Great setting and atmosphere and really nice puzzles, where you need to cooperate with your team members, who all have different abilities. Only thing that could have been better was the combat, which was a bit under-developed and tame. Here's a video:

Wow, great news! I will replay the whole Phobos mod soon, including the new episode. Best Doom 3 mod.

I have no experience with Trenchbroom, but basic scripted sequences work the same in Doom 3 as in Quake games: you have a trigger for the player to activate that is linked to other entities. It shouldn't be fundamentally different.

They are not deliberately abstract. The level names most of the time suggest some purpose and sometimes the structures vaguely resonate with that. That vagueness is also something you often experience in liminal spaces.
-
I think many classic Doom levels have an inherent liminal spaces quality to them: they often resemble human-made structures, but are now devoid of human life, and they all are places of transition.
-
Looks very basic, to be honest. More like a learning exercise. A typical beginners oversight are the invisible light sources.
-
You have an interesting semi-abstract look there, gloomy athmosphere. Can't try your map at the moment, but I will check it out in the future.

Mainly these two reasons. Thanks for your summary!

You're welcome! I yet have to play those Russian bootleg addons (Deimos Panic seems to be part of a series) myself. Is it any good?

That's what I was referring to. He quotes id's own description in the beginning of the video and then just brushes it away. Take "lightning-fast" for Action and "virtual reality" for 3D and you have a 3D Action-Adventure.
-
The narrator in the video shrugs it off right at the beginning, but Doom actually was kind of an adventure game: you explore convoluted spaces, you solve (admittedly simple) puzzles involving locked doors, keys and switches. So it could be described as a first-person action adventure. edit: So he comes to the conclusion that Doom is an Action RPG... since it lacks character development through stats I would still call it an Action Adventure. Interesting video though.

Some older mods don't work with the latest patch, maybe that's the reason? There is this fix if that is the case. Though the readme for Deimos Panic says it already is for Doom 3 v1.3.1 ...

I only played maybe an hour of System Shock in the late 1990s. I really liked the look of the space station and the ominous atmosphere. But I also clearly remember that the overly complex control scheme put me off. I don't know if I remember this right but I think there were like special keys for ducking and even crawling on the floor and it felt really cumbersome. Doom's more simple, but elegant control scheme worked much better in a 3D environment. Some time later I played System Shock 2, which adopted the FPS control scheme, and it was one of my all-time favorite games.

What would be the worse game universe to be stuck in?
Tetzlaff replied to Apex Veiko's topic in Everything Else
@MrHellstorm17 Sounds interesting, thanks for the tip. -
If you contrary to expectations happen to find it somewhere, please let us know :)

That sounds really interesting, but I think I never played it. The Phantasm mod comes to mind, it starts in a mansion with a mausoleum, but that's probably not the one you are looking for. It has multiple parts and inlcudes scenes with cars. I yet have to play the full stand-alone version. Maybe Desolated - The Crying Fate ? It also starts with a car cutscene.
-
I don't remember that one, but I usually collect every Doom 3 custom level I can find. Was the setting resembling an asylum? Did it use custom textures/graphics?

Thanks for your work! The site seems unavailable at the moment?

WRATH: Aeon of Ruin (a new game from 3D Realms)
Tetzlaff replied to Man of Doom's topic in Everything Else
So that's not that bad. The effect that gameplay can get a little bit stale after longer stretches of time is something I often experience in Doom map sets, or for example Serious Sam. I still enjoy coming back after a break. -

How many enemy types does it actually have?
