^---- Day before yesterday
http://geocities.com/tobester666/today.jpg
^------ Yesterday -
So, the other day I decided it was format time. I moved all of the important stuff (mp3's, midi's i'd been working on, .wmv's of my roommates penis, etc.) off of my windows hd, rebooted my computer (after it had been on for 9 days, a personal record since I put in the pretty colorful epilepsy-inducing sleep-reducing fans), and began searching for my Xp disk. When the bios started, I got an error message, something along the lines of "CMOS ERROR: Loading Fail-Safe Defaults... Loading complete". Scared, I let the computer boot properly, no noticeable problems. Confident, I rebooted again.
When XP started, it began loading, then about 5 seconds into the loading screen, the computer rebooted, and did the same thing over again. About 4 reboots later, I turned off the computer, frustrated.
Later, I found my XP disk, stuck it in the CD-Rom, and turned the computer back on. I got to XP setup, and started formatting my windows drive. At 98%, the computer turned off. I turned it back on, started the process again, and this time, it formatted properly, no problems. I started installing XP, and while setup was copying files to do so, I got a bsod, something along the lines of "IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL".
Now mind ye, I've not changed a god damn thing at all that would cause this BSOD. I got this error a few months ago when I bought a new motherboard; a friend took my processor out, put it back in, and it was fine. I didn't set it properly or something. However, I hadn't touched the processor at all since he did that, so it couldn't be that causing the error.
Frustrated again, I gave up and tried again later. This time, as XP setup began, I got another bsod: "UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_DRIVE" or something similar. I turned off the computer and removed all the IDE drives except for my CD-ROM and Windows drive. THIS time, when I clicked on the power supply switch (NOT the computer power-on button) the computer started up, the hard drive (i think, anyway) making odd noises, and a strange smell coming from inside, while the monitor flashed NO VIDEO SIGNAL.
Scared, I turned it off and took the entire damn thing apart. I checked EVERYTHING for signs of damage, scorchs/burns, anything. Everything looked clean and fine, PSU, processor, ram, motherboard, everthing. I put everything back together slowly, making sure everything was connected and mounted properly and correctly. When it was all back together, I hit the PSU switch, and the same thing happened again; the computer turned on, an odd noise came from inside.
I turned the computer off, and one by one, I took everything out and replaced it with a different part, to see if it would fix the problem. I changed the PSU first, to my old one, same problem. I changed ram, processor, motherboard, hard drive, IDE cables, even switched chassis and power switch for the computer, in every possible combination, for roughly 7 hours. Each time, the same damn thing happened.
I don't suppose ANYONE might know wtf is going on here?
Specs for the systems:
Comp name: "Suzie" (The one having problems)
PSU: 480w PowerMax Demon (I tink thats the name)
Processor: Amd Athlon 2100+
Motherboard: Foxconn KM400M01 MiniATX
Ram: 512mb DDR Samsung
HD: Western Digital 6 gig (Windows Drive)
Cd-Rom: Mitsumi 48x CD-RW
Chassis: Generic Thing I got for $50
GFX: GF4 MX440
Comp name: "Hehbox" (My backup that I stole the parts from)
PSU: 300w Generic
Processor: AMD Duron 2600+
Motherboard Asus AV78X (or something with all those letters :P)
Ram: 512mb DDR 'Valuram'
HD: Western Digital 20gig, Maxtor 20gig, WD 2gig
CD-Rom: Creative Labs 52x
Chassis: Same as the other one, with a bunch of stickers on it
GFX: Ati Rage Pro
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Gotta go now, tho, my roommate's gf just had a baby :D-
That's a tough one to diagnose. I'm not exactly where you would start looking to tell you the truth. The motherboard would be the first place I would say to look at, taking it to a professional to have him test it. The last time my laptop acted funky, which was just before and at the 2003 QuakeCon, it ended up being a thing on my motherboard that fried itself.
You may also want to try changing CD-Roms and graphics cards for shits and giggles. A friend of mine had a problem not long ago which he traced back to his graphics card.
But if you switched motherboards, processors, ram, HDs, and all that, it sounds more like you switched computers.

After playing my same peice of crap geetar for 3 years now, I finally put a down payment on a new guitar. About a week ago, my roommates and I were browsing a pawn shop, doing things like buying Glocks and Trumpets, when I saw a pretty Jackson Randy Rhoads V on the wall. However, the $600 price tag made the $239 white Flying V sitting next to it a whole lot prettier.
I took it down, plugged it in, and was greeted with a tone that a generic guitar found in a pawn shop does not deserve. I played a few metallica songs while the guy behind the counter told me how much they sucked at a show in Cincinatti this year, played some random Ozzy riffs (which no one recognized), and played a few doom-ey riffs (d_shawn, and e1m1, which was recognized by another guy browsing stuff \m/), and fell in love.
I took it back to the counter, sad and broke. 3 days passed, I got paid, and the guitar was still hanging in the shop when I went back yesterday. I took it down, played 'Sad But True', and asked if I could put a down payment on it. The guy behind the counter took $39 off of the asking price of the guitar, giving me an even $200 to pay, before tax. I gave hime $30 for a down payment, leaving me about $200 to pay, including tax.
If I didn't have to lend some dough to my roommates to help cover bills, I'd be in the garage right now with the guitar until my fingers bled :) Ah well. When they pay me back, I get my guitar :D -
He doesn't talk anywhere near as bad as he types :)

no one would cry
no one would care

I won't be missed

will come and save me

A black hole in empty space,
It's pouring out,
All the thoughts in my world,
Feeling myself slip away.
White and blue, red and black,
It's time to pull the rope,
To drop the final curtain.
The act is over, no more to see.
Once I could feel,
Once I thought I was free,
But then it hit,
That I can't be me.
Lived long enough,
So that I could see,
That everything is dead,
And I've become something
I can't let myself be.
There are people above me,
Identities blurred,
Silhouettes of my demons,
Waiting to take me to
Somewhere unknown.
I feel them lift me,
But can barely sense
That they were the medics,
Trying to undo what I've done.
I can see the light,
Though I feel I'm blind,
It flashes constantly,
From all directions,
But I can hear them all.
The sound of a million words,
The sound of a million tears,
As people gather together,
To witness a new story to tell,
I'll be on the front of the news,
So they can make more sales.

So yesterday I woke up about 10:30 and the day started out normally. I woke up, put on my sandals, walked over to the computer (hereafter known as 'Suzie') and booted up so I could check my emails and see whats going on dwf.
Computer starts up fine, I check the latest posts in the randomvg thread, add a few of my own, and decide, 'HEY! Lets open Doom Builder!' Fueled by Ola Bjorling and George Romero, I add 2000 sidedefs, mostly curvy shit thanks to DB's great 'curve linedef' feature. Evans City is starting to look more realistic every second. "Hmm," I think, "Let's go into 3D mode and align some of those crazy textures!". Once in 3D mode, I blissfully fly around my map until...
*CLICK*
I look over to Suzie, but I can see nothing. The problem is on the inside. Frantic, I get out of 3D mode and try to save, but the computer freezes before my mouse pointer can get over 'File'. I reboot, and the computer boots to the Winxp Welcome screen before it hardlocks again. Crying, I reboot again and I get a horrible message. UNMOUNTABLE BOOT VOLUME in huge capital letters against a BSOD. I reboot again and again and again, trying safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command promt, everything.
Blinded in fury, I kill my brother and three homeless people before I come to my senses. I realize there's nothing I can do. So I go downstairs and plop in front of the TV for the first time in a long time.
Hours later, I realize my brother is unusually quiet in his closet-sized room. Theres no constant Clay Aiken music coming out or fapfapfapfapfap. He's grounded to his room, so he's either sleeping or not there. I enter and find his window open, with a rope made out of bath towels hanging out of the window.
<arioch> people actually do that?
<tobester> yep
I go downstairs and inform dear old Mom.
<tobe> chris is gone, he escaped from his cell using a rope made from his unwashed jizzcloth.
<mother> I'll warm up the car, you go get your asskicking boots on.
We drive and get our buddy Fat Eric, who earned his name from being a 5 foot tall 12 year old 300 pound motivation for birth control. He knows where my brother is, so we get the cavalier into gear and pick him up, where he claims he 'escaped his room to go paint'. We arrive home and find a car parked in our spot, so we park behind it. My sister babysits occasionally, and the mother had come to pick up her child.
She leaves. My car is not in front of our house.
<tobe> hey mother, can I move the car forward 20 feet
<mother> sure
<tobe> get in the passenger seat, if im going im taking someone with me.
So we get in and drive the 20 feet. But im not done.
<tobe> around the block?
<mother> *sigh* ok. Be careful.
I drive around the block. I feel like an old person. When I get back onto my street, I nearly take off the driver side mirror of a blazer, but I get back safely.
And that's the story of the first time I drove my car.- Show previous comments 2 more

just said maybe you should not have used XP.
test your memory and hard drive. memtest.org is a good one. also depeding on the drive, most HD makers have utilities that come as a bootable disk. make and scan that disk -

If you haven't noticed yet, http://goatse.cx is down, apparently shut down by the people who run .cx. This isn't a trick to make people go see the gaping asshole that has plagued us for the last three or four years. This is a time which will live in infamy forever. Tomorrow I will mourn and have a candlelight vigil, and wear a black armband and all that shit.
In protest, someone has created this (I can't remember who sent it to me):
http://www.petitiononline.com/Goatse/petition.html
Sign the petition so that one day we may again break the internet hymen of some newb!
Mods: I'm hoping that the combination of goatse being down and this being a blog will not result in this being ph'd. I've never posted a blog before so I dunno the exact rules.
