  1. Between the two terms, I guess "machine learning" is more passable. I think I'm just getting increasingly annoyed at people who are taking the whole AI thing a little too literally and think Skynet is going to kill us all next week.
  2. For the same reason "artificial intelligence" is a misnomer: A machine doesn't have a brain. It's not intelligent and doesn't learn anything. It merely performs a task you told it to do.
  3. Eh, that one feels just as much of a misnomer in my opinion.
  4. I wish we'd come up with a better short-hand term for this kind of programming, rather than just slapping the misleading "AI" onto everything. As much as the "A" stands for "artificial", most people can't seem to stop associating it with stupid, evil self-aware computers we started writing about in 1950s pulp science fiction stories.
  5. Ubisoft's presentation at E3 2011 is always the first thing that comes to my mind, featuring Mr Caffeine. It is such a painfully awkward moment with this charismatic blackhole plodding his way through a terrible "humourous" presentation that feels like it was written by a primordial version of ChatGPT. Doodily Doodily Doodily Doo!
  6. Pour one out for the irrefutable King of Annual Corporate Cringefests, folks. We'll always have the funny/awkward moment compilation videos to remember it by.
  7. Glad to hear it because I just finished! Sorry in advance, I neglected to record MAP03 and MAP04, but I assure you they were awesome. The penultimate map was quite a doozy, nailed my arse to the wall and gave me the shits a couple of times, but managed in the end. I'm going to blame it on rust as I hadn't played much Doom in the past week lmao. This is a terrific WAD, mate. I really like it a lot.
  8. Here's a link to the PC Gamer article RDETalus hinted at in their post.
  9. The only viable method, really, would be to draw a custom texture set inspired by D16's visuals from scratch.
  10. Awesome stuff so far, Wookie! You have an impeccable eye for detail, beautiful lighting and spicy, engaging combat that doesn't feel predictable. Here's a playthrough of the first two maps. Rest assured, more on the way. Love it so far, mate.
  11. Happy 30th anniversary, kids! 2023 has been an utterly incredible year for Doom. The "peak" really doesn't exist for this community because you all fucking obliterate it each year, constantly outdoing yourselves! Really happy to see The Doom Bards Krew win a Caco for CyberPrimate, which is one of my absolute favourite WADs of the year, as well as my buddy @EduardoAndFriends receiving recognition for blowing us all out of the water with such promise and releasing 4 complete and terrific miniWADs in a single year. Damn proud of you, Ed! I already had several moments of "Best Thing of the Year" running in my head as far back goddamn January, that's how bloody brilliant the creations and achievements were across the board! There's even two projects I playtested for (Break Point and Deep Breath) that got mentioned this year! WOOT! Here's to another 30 years, you guys. I fucking love Doom!
  12. Merry Doomas to all, and to all a good fragging!

  13. What other wild secrets are you hiding from us, Mr Fly?! Congratulations to you and your team, my friend. :^)
  14. I've been running double-strength Adblock and Adblock Plus on Firefox for the longest time and have also now added uBlock Origin to the mix just for the hell of it, even though I haven't really been experiencing any ads or issues watching YouTube yet. I've only experienced that annoying pop-up where YouTube threatens to block me from using it with adblock extensions when I've used Chrome.
  15. Not too shabby, fam. Interesting layout and progression for a newbie mapper.
  16. Oh my god, lmao this is something else. I can't imagine many people being able to cope with the constant Dalek noises for much longer than a single map though, and it'd have to be a short one less they be driven utterly insane by the constant barrage of uppity dustbins yelling the same word incessantly.
  17. You can always count on this community to go the extra mile to preserve its history. This is awesome news.
  18. I don't blame you for not remembering. It has a very forgettable title. I believe this is the one you're looking for:
  19. Oh wow, 20 years in the making. I'm sure Espi would've been psyched to see this, Torn. Good on ya for revitalizing this old project and bringing it this far into the beta stage.
  20. Matacrat's likely just dealing with some IRL shit at the moment, guys. Hopefully, we'll hear from 'em again soon.
  21. It's had quite the opposite effect, actually. Not only are adblocker devs making said adblock browser extensions stronger, YouTube's move has made people who never used an ad blocking extension before more aware of how annoying ads have become on the website, and being introduced to the very concept of using an adblocker. :^P
  22. This all sounds like wishful thinking on your part, mate. I don't know how you can remain convinced that YouTube makes no money and is dying despite all evidence to the contrary. Google's MO of killing off any project it creates or acquires the millisecond it stops making them a dime has been very consistent for the last two decades. The fact that their parent company, Alphabet, made quarterly earnings public back in 2020, demonstrated that YouTube alone made them $15 billion back in 2019. Incidentally, that $15 billion went up to $28 billion last year. YouTube isn't dying, fam. They're just following the idiotic idea of infinite profit margins thanks to an economic system that encourages and empowers you to be a greedy cunt. Will this shit backfire on them? It already has been. Will it kill the website? lmao very unlikely.
