  1. Oh boy, time to be lazy and quote an old post of mine on the very subject.
  2. Damn, did they not save the VOD of the stream? I can't find it on Romero's Twitch channel. :^/
  3. I didn't burst into tears, but @129thVisplane's doggy heaven map as a loving tribute to their late dog is pretty touching and left a lump in my throat at the very end.
  4. I think that simply depends on your own personal expectations and how you engage with the games. How'd you feel about D2016/Eternal's narrative? Did you find it compelling or dumb and did that affect your enjoyment of the games at all? Just how much of the story being good or bad matters to you in this context exactly?
  5. Besides stating the painfully obvious, the hell is there to even discuss here?
  6. The website/brand/etc losing Yahtzee is very much the nail in the coffin. They lost relevance as a gaming news outlet years ago and had been using ZP as a crutch/lifeline for the better half of the last decade, so much so that most of the company's iconography as of late is basically just the ZP art style even across the different shows that were being produced on the YouTube channel regardless of Yahtzee's involvement. I've read some tweets today that even the journalists writing the articles for their website have also left in droves as a sign of solidarity with the video team. The Escapist hedged all its bets by focusing on YouTube as their website became a ghost-town, then fucked themselves over by treating the video team like shit, consequently losing their masoct/cash-cow. I say "cash cow" facetiously though, considering even ZP videos were making far less numbers than they used to. When your flagship series only cracks an average of a little over 200k views while the rest struggle to break 10k views on a 1.2 million sub channel, you know their not rolling in dosh. Hell, they even had to censor videos of recent and resort to making a Patreon account to help make ends meet thanks to the amount of old videos being demonetised thanks to Yahtzee's iconic use of naughty words back in the days when everyone was allowed to say, "fuck" in internet videos. Gamurs Group will no doubt recoup their losses for fumbling the bag, but The Escapist as an entity is doomed and was doomed for years, it was just a matter of when Yahtzee would leave and thus its only source of revenue disappeared. The amount of people I've found online talking about this subject who are either surprised ZP was still going after so long, let alone the idea that The Escapist had literally anything else to offer post-2015 is astounding.
  7. Yeah, I saw this unfold on Twitter earlier today. I used to frequent The Escapist website over a decade ago when I was first introduced to Yahtzee's series in 2011. I loved his videos (and consequently his books) and the other contributors back then like Jim Sterling, MovieBob (before he lost his mind), and LoadingReadyRun and used to regularly read all their articles and comics too. After the website was first bought out by Gamurs Group in 2015 and pushed away just about all my other favourite contributors, Yahtzee was all I had left, and I just stopped visiting the site over time and watched his videos on YouTube instead. Over the the last 5 years especially, I watched The Escapist become a shambling corpse, losing relevance and clinging to Zero Punctuation for dear life; take a gander at the view disparity between Zero Punctuation and literally any other video they've uploaded to YouTube in the past year alone, you'll see what I mean. They had that slight upwind a few years ago when they poured more resources into more video content and producing quite a few new shows with good production value, but now they've fucked it all up completely. From what I understand now, the then current and now former editor-in-chief, Nick was essentially fired for not meeting Gamur's unrealistic expectations regarding how much video content they could reasonably produce in a short period of time and chase YouTube's fickle algorithm. Here's what Nick had to say about it on Discord: That's right, kids. After Nick was fired for idiotic reasons, the entire video team all quit as a sign of solidarity, which consequently included the very man who was still making The Escapist any money at all. OOPS! Now the former video team are off to probably build their own little media company with blackjack and hookers or find opportunities elsewhere. While I am a little sad to see Zero Punctuation end rather abruptly, it was done with good cause and with all his success in writing and video game development, Yahtzee had been in a, "You need me more than I need you" scenario with The Escapist for almost half of his career anyways. We had a good run, ZP fans. 16 years worth of knob jokes! Now if you'll all excuse me, I need to go and download all 800 Zero Punctuation videos before Gamur Group deletes the channel.
  8. Hell yeah, that's going to be a fun reunion. My timezone will probably screw me over, so I'll be sure to download the VOD.
  9. Got my copy today as a birthday present for myself hehe.

Holy shit, so is your birthday one day after halloween? That explains your spooky playtester rank! I'm late to the party but I wish you lots of joy playing Doom and in life outside of Doom as well! :)

  11. No, there are plenty who actually give a fuck about making good videos.
  12. Yeah, despite how many times he's openly acknowledged when he's gotten shit wrong in response to videos criticising/roasting his stuff, he hasn't seemed to learn anything from those experiences. Midnight's very much the analytics-driven kind of YouTuber who evidently doesn't really care all that much about the quality of what he puts out, but rather focused on pulling every metadata trick in the book to milk YouTube's algorithm for all its worth in the laziest ways possible. I don't find him to be the kind of creator worth taking seriously by any metric in regards to Doom overall.
  13. I haven't been on the staff here, but I was what you'd call a second-class moderator on my old forum and I'd say that moderating an internet forum can be a rather odious and thankless job at times that makes you feel a little unappreciated, but given both the tenure and dedication on display here at DW, we can likely see that may not entirely be the case for our own forum's staff; unless one of them would like to contradict my theory and make me look silly! Some might feel the moderation here is a little strict, but I say that strong hand is appreciated since we rarely have any huge flame wars here. The sparks that could potentially start one are always consistently stomped out beforehand. So shout-out to all DW staff past and present for keeping this place free of toxic bullshit.
  14. Okay, I was focusing too much on the bit that looks more like the thing you're supposed to shoot if you know what I mean.
  15. An awesome vintage Doomcute computer by @AshtralFiend.
  16. Considering that particular rad suit is a secret and the fight is doable without it, I think making the button easier to find would negate its purpose as a secret. It's fine how it is, fam.
  17. Another one to add to my to-do list. You're spoiling us lately, Cannon mate. ;^)
