  1. if you want even more foiliage, use OTEX. If even that doesn't satisfy, you can find WADs with a heavy focus on natural scenes, like Lost Civilization, and lift textures from them (with proper credit, of course.)
  2. any art program with customizable canvas dimensions and with the ability to import/edit/export image files. I primarily use Photoshop like a heathen, and in my earliest days I even used Scratch! Stock Windows programs like MSPaint and whatever the newer version of that is are also more than adequate.
  3. Adobe Illustrator. If you're not in the market for the Adobe creative suite (I wouldn't blame you), then look up alternatives to Illustrator. It is a vector based art program that would probably be a good option for what you're after. Me personally, I just draw basic shapes in Doom Builder and map from there; however, if I have a particular combat scenario or level idea I either write it down in a text file/google doc, or I do a very basic drawing of it and describe the drawing with bullet points to remember later :) I hope this helps!

  5. yeah, the game still crashes for the same reason. I can't believe I omitted this, but the custom enemy is a spiderdemon. if I delete a function from one of its animation frames, maybe that is the cause?
  6. Right, I meant to say BrainDie or whatever that function is called. Also, I'm confused on how it could be looping - the functions performed by the monster fully function without complication, it's only when the level ends and tries to load suburbs that it shits the bed. And nothing in suburbs would be edited at all, much less to the degree of causing a crash. I'll look back on the monster functions, maybe I just need to change where the death sound is played? I could also give you the file to take a look at.
  7. Hey all, during playtesting for my new wad I encountered an error after beating a dehacked enemy I implemented. So what happens is: - everything is normal and functional, including the custom monster behaviour - you beat the monster, it dies - triggers Keendie which ends the level with voodoo dolls - error occurs trying to load next map, MAP16 (previous map was MAP15) I originally had it so the monster used BossDeath to end the level, then thought that was the problem because Romeros head does that too. so I destroyed all functionality of Romeros head, then changed my custom monster's death to be KeenDie just in case, and it still crashes. I'm not sure what the problem is here, if I'm missing a function somewhere it's supposed to be, I've done some research into the error and essentially it could be anything relating to incorrect memory functions... so now I don't really know what to do. I don't want to upload the dehacked file or WAD publicly because it's a WIP I intend on keeping private until full release so if you're generous enough to want to help I'll send you the files to tinker with in DMs. Thank you in advanced!
  8. Hey all! I'm aware I'm necroposting a bit, but I'm almost finished the WAD and will likely be moving to a new thread to post it. Should be done before July :)
  9. For your own WAD, check Realm667 for assets as they are the go-to place for Doom engine custom textures, monsters, and sprites. Always be sure to credit your sources. As for already existing lovecraftian WADs, I'm sure there are plenty, but one that comes to mind is Maskim Xul by Obsidian. You can find that on Idgames. You can do some more of your own research using the TOP 100 MOST MEMORABLE MAPS list or Doomwiki.org. Lastly, Quake is always an option. Hope this helps :)
  10. Hey! Thank you so much for your feedback! The softlock you mentioned has been patched in my most recent dev build, as I also came upon it recently. Also, all 7 main maps are finished and I'm currently working on the new game+ levels now. I can send you a dev version by tomorrow if you'd like! The first three levels of the demo are just the appetizer! Glad you enjoyed what you played so far!
  11. there is a "find" feature you can use to find and replace textures using F3 key. Used this to go through and replace assets for my 2023 submission, lol. to anyone else using custom textures: you have been warned! This process takes a long time so get ahead of the curve and name your stuff!
  12. hey all, quick update and announcement - all 7 main levels are completed! With that, I would like to gauge interest in potential playtesters of the maps before the final release. If you are interested, I'd like for you to say so either in this thread or in a private message, the latter of which I'll use to give access to the current build of the WAD. You will be credited for your work in the final release!
