This thread has me feeling like I'm taking crazy pills so I'm going to address some things. I didn't remember map 03 being particularly difficult (aside from the secret fight) so I went back and replayed it and I still really don't see how the rev/vile fight is so difficult. I recorded a quick video of me doing the fight kind of sloppily and it still didn't give me much trouble, I died like once before this recording because I kind of just woke up. The fight sort of cheeses itself once you kill the first archvile since all the revenants bunch up in that little stairwell. I would try to intellectualize this fight or whatever but it really is just "hold down the fire button on the RL and take cover when the archvile zaps you". There's not much to figure out here. I have sympathy for you @Clippy because doing live commentary playthroughs can be tough. Balancing playing Doom and recording and talking kind of splits your mental processes and it's easy to miss stuff. But quickly glancing at your video it looks like you were mostly jumping out of the only cover available to you into a big open arena with two archviles. Probably should have stayed in cover, right? I don't want to come down on you but you were kind of making things harder for yourself. I hope that this video of me doing the fight makes it easier for you and maybe you'll enjoy this map more if you ever decide to play it again. I'm less inclined to have sympathy for @KevvyLava. You're more than entitled to have your preferences for what you like in a Doom map. We all do. And if this map set isn't your cup of tea that's fine and I would never take offense to that. But if all you're going to do is pop into every thread for a WAD you don't like and call it "generic" or "boring" then I'll go ahead and be as blunt as you are: I don't fucking care. You did this in the D2ICO thread as well, and it derailed that thread too. You're being a dick. Believe it or not the people who make these maps read the threads and when you say shit like this: or this: they're going to think you're an asshole, because you are. Like what you like, don't like what you don't like, it's all good. But stop popping into threads being a fucking asshole unless you want to be known as "that asshole who pops into peoples threads".- 13 replies

RC4 is here! More fixes, more balancing, etc. Map 30 also had a critical bug that prevented the map from being able to be finished which has been fixed. I expect the next update won't come until map 19 is ready to be included, so look forward to that!- 202 replies

I have a habit of making sure the player is always able to backtrack to the rest of the map after finishing it. If they're not able to walk back to the start of the map because of a drop down or a one way teleporter, I always add a teleporter just before the exit that lets the player go back to the start in case they missed something like secrets, kills, items, or even extra ammo/health for continuous players.

Right now we're waiting for the map 19 replacement, which should be done sometime in the next 2 weeks or so (possibly sooner). After that gets tested and implemented we'll move to an idgames release shortly after. -

I've spent what some might consider to be an unreasonable amount of time attempting to diagnose this issue, and I've yet to find a satisfactory explanation. Updating dsda fixed it for me. -

Hey everyone, glad to see you folks are enjoying the WAD so far. We've got a hefty update here for RC2 based on all of your feedback (and then some): Updates and fixes to a bunch of maps Fixed the intermission text not appearing after map 05 Updated CWILV patch for map 3 Removed map 19. To keep it simple the author wasn't happy with how the map turned out and requested we remove it, so I temporarily replaced it with an empty room and an exit switch. We have a new mapper that is currently working on a replacement for this slot that will hopefully be ready for you all soon. I apologize for the inconvenience.- 202 replies

Download Doom 2 In City Only is a 36 map megawad in MBF21 format featuring nothing but city maps. Some of these maps are very large, so it is recommended you play with OpenGL. The set was primarily tested in dsda-doom. There are 6 secret maps (one per episode) with the secret exit being in the middle map of each episode. Jumping and freelook are not intended for this set and will break some maps. Mappers were given the following rules for this project: Each map should visually resemble a city and fit with the theme assigned to it's episode (except secret maps) Maps should have open & non-linear layouts Must feature optional areas that are not tied to progression that give the player optional rewards [Optional] Good city maps often contain doomcute so this is encouraged but it may not gel with some styles, so it is not mandatory. Hey, this looks cool! Quick question: did you use the Lover's Quarrel resource for this? If so you may want to update your post to credit PUSS XXIV instead of PUSS X (which was Summer of Slaughter, which just used OTEX IIRC).
