  1. The gyroscopic motion aiming on the PS and Switch controllers are the closest one will get to using a mouse on console. Nightdive have always added this option to their ports. I always recommend people try it for a bit before they knock it, as these controls have always been bashed and avoided by "the hardcore crowd" as if they were cooties or something.
  2. In my experience it's a damn miracle of a port that performs really well, with the only major framerate drops being during the larger fights in the DLC and Master Levels. Even then, it never dips to single digits, and it never goes below 20, only during cutscenes when played in portable mode. All of the content from the other ports is there, so you're not missing out on single player and multiplayer content. The graphics and resolution are downgraded sure, but the strong art direction picks up the slack, and it's never an incomprehensible pixelated mess. I can absolutely recommend it.
  3. I'm going to have to side with Xbox on this. I adore the PS2, but when it comes to the PS2 vs. the OG Xbox, I prefer the Xbox. Most of the games that I played at the time were multiplatform titles that, 9 times out of ten, ran much better on the Xbox. I do prefer the PS3 though. The controller was garbage, but at least I didn't have to pay for online multiplayer. A lot of games also had neat bonus content to make up for the fact that most multiplats were still running better on the 360. The 2 generations after that were when I stopped caring about consoles because I had built my own PC by 2014. However, I do have an Xbox One X and a PS4, and between those 2, I end up using the Xbox more simply because it can play most of the 360's (and some of the OG Xbox's) library. Nowadays I primarily play on PC and Switch.
  4. The touchHLE recently added support for the Wolfenstein RPG and DOOM II RPG for iOS. It's very nice to be able to play those games on a touchscreen as Carmack intended.
  5. I don't care for E1. The tech base aesthetic bores me pretty easily by around E1M4, and everything after that is a slog. I much prefer the hellish influence of a tech base in E2. E3 is a fun frag fest (except Unholy Cathedral). Hell, I even like Limbo. I know the route to the keys by heart, and the throne room always got a chuckle out of me because it reminds me of a giant toilet and going down into the lava maze is like a sewer system.
  6. There are 2 Ecks vs. Sever games on the GBA: Ecks vs. Sever, and Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever. I've only played the first one, and it was pretty impressive for the GBA. You could choose between Ecks or Sever, and they'd have completely different levels, so a decent amount of content for a GBA shooter. There was another GBA shooter that I've been trying to find for years now called Ice Nine. It was supposed to be a movie tie-in but ended up being its own thing instead. It was developed by Torus, the same development studio behind DOOM II on the GBA and Duke Nukem Advance.
  7. Christ, Nightdive are KILLING it with these remasters. This year alone we saw a remake of System Shock and remasters of Rise of the Triad and Quake II, and now they're working with the Star Wars franchise. I sure hope they don't fumble it like Aspyr did with the Switch/PS4 ports of the Jedi Knights games, or KOTORII on the Switch.
  8. I wouldn't say love but... I'm sad that it's basically dead because I really enjoyed my time with it. I guess id took the DOOT 16 multiplayer criticism to heart and decided to craft a unique experience that I would almost call avant-garde. Also, a Quake 3 remaster would be tricky to pull off. Quake Live already exists and is basically a Quake 3 remaster. Then there's the 360 port that was DOA because of the disconnection issues. The biggest justification for a remaster would be crossplay, along with all of the bells and whistles that came with the QII remaster.
  9. Maybe for the eventual release of Wolfenstein 3 by MachineGames? I was honestly bummed when the 30th anniversary of Wolf 3D came and went without so much as a social media post by id or Bethesda going "Happy 30th Birthday!" I think it would be more interesting to have a remaster of Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Slap in the console exclusive prequel levels and some of the other exclusive content (the shotgun from the Xbox port, the leveling up system from the PS2 port, etc.)
  10. How are Berserkers even real? Just use the Pinky and Revenant strat of running up to them and baiting their melee attack. Play Punch-Out with those nerds and beat them to the punch.
  11. I think it's just a matter of people forgetting to turn it off, like how some people don't check and remap their bindings before starting a game. As you mentioned, it serves its purpose as an accessibility option. Anyways, Nightdive have outdone themselves once again. I ended up buying it on the Switch because I got it for free on Steam, and I wanted to give these guys my money. I do have a couple of issues with it though. The gyro controls seem to have a deadzone and some filtering applied to them, which is a bit of a hindrance. In my opinion, good gyro controls should feel like a mouse. The other issue is the CRT filter on the Switch specifically. It's a bit too chunky. The first screenshot is the PC, the second one is the Switch
  12. From my hundred hourd of playtime, the DF review is pretty spot on. I've had some very noticeable framerate drops during the Master Levels though, but it never gets to the point of being unplayable.
