  1. I would agree in general but this recent Mario Kart HD project completely changed my mind: https://github.com/GhostlyDark/MK64-HD They re-made all the 3D models the sprites are based on and prerendered them in HD from scratch. And it looks amazing in motion. So, in theory, what OP is trying to do can be done well. But IMO, only if those sprites are very faithful to the originals. Which means you got to hunt down those clay models ID used for most of the monsters and use them as the source, like they did. Of course, you will have to do the same with the map textures but thankfully there are a few faithful HD texture projects for that.
  2. Nah, i remember loving it. And for the longest time The Courtyard was my all time favorite DOOM map.
  3. Is it normal to still have all my weapons, including the special one, after finishing a secret map?
  4. Is there a way to stop the annoying achievement thing pop up every time i restart the game? Or a way to disable them completely? For some reason they reset when i close the game. So the next time i play they pop up again (and they are obnoxious). I even enabled cheats + god mode and they still popup. Edit: Seems like you need to be offline for the achievements to stop reseting. Or block the exe from going online. I'm playing the game withoug GoG Galaxy.
  5. From 3.9.0: This sounds like a big change. Says the maps are more accurate but lack some quality of life changes. Any examples so we know what these were?
  6. Is there any way to run this on DOSBox? I'm running this on a Windows 95 setup, using a windows shortcut with this path: "C:\GAMES\KDIKDIZD\DOOMHACK.EXE -file KDiKDi_A.wad KDiKDi_B.wad" I can't run the shortcut through DOSBox and i can't run a .bat with the same command either. If i run DOOMHACK.exe, it crashes back to the menu. If i run DOOM2.exe it just runs the regular DOOM 2 game. If i run the C:\GAMES\KDIKDIZD\DOOMHACK.EXE -file KDiKDi_A.wad KDiKDi_B.wad command normally it says it's illegal. I would like to be able to run a shortcut/executable file instead of writing a command, if that's possible.
  7. I'm not sure if i'm doing something wrong. This is how the page looks for me when selecting unread/newest first: This page never changes for me. The topic you see from Dec 2023 is always on top. If i read it, the older one below it will take it's place. It seems like newer topics won't appear here no matter what but shouldn't they?
  8. Thanks for the links. I know about Daniel's drivers and i use them for a while now. Unfortunately, the latest dll still sounds weak compared to the one i linked.
  9. The last couple of years, GZDoom (and Raze) is shipped with a version of openal32.dll that sounds much worse in 5.1 (in my case) than the one before it. Thankfully, i can use the older dll on later versions of GZDoom without issues, but i don't know for how long this will be possible. Basically, the older dll makes the sound deeper, with more bass. The latest version of the dll sounds weaker and flatter. The bass when firing the shotguns is almost non-existent by comparison. Same with Duke Nukem 3D on Raze. Now this could be just me and my old Audigy 2 platinum card and settings (still the best sound card ever made). But i would like to know if others can hear the same results. Here is the old, good file: https://www.mediafire.com/file/7ayl52cw03zzfi9/openal32.zip/file Try this if you have a fancy 5.1 audio setup and you care about sound. It probably won't make a huge difference on a cheap speakers or plain 2 channel setup. Just want to know if it's only me. Because if the old dll stops working on a future version of GZDoom, i will be locked to the last one that worked.
  10. Yeah, i compared a few of my favorite WADs to the soundtracks uploaded on Youtube, plus some playthroughs by popular youtubers (who also use different source ports to play them) and they sound the same as i hear them with Microsoft GS Wavetable. Using something like the Arachno sounfont makes them sound very different, not only because of the volume mixing but also because of different instruments, etc. I suppose using Microsoft GS Wavetable as the default unless a wad readme specifies otherwise is the best way to go.
  11. Yeah but which one? These are so many different sounding fonts with the SC-55 name. Which are the correct ones the composers intended when they made the soundtracks though?
  12. Seems like GZdoom already has a gzdoom.sf2 inside that folder by default. That's a good idea. I suppose the Youtube OST videos that are already posted in this thread is a good indication of how the songs are supposed to sound?
  13. What MIDI device should i use in the GZDoom sound options? Seems like there are at least three options here that sound very different from each other. My default is "Microsoft GS Wavetable synth". Is there a better option for this particular Wad? Is there any option that's better than the others as default or it's WAD dependent? I don't remember anyone ever recommending a different midi option for their wads.
