Might be worth posting the answer here in case someone else looks for it.

Thanks, that means a lot! /adv/ is a song I'm really proud of, so I'm glad you like it! I love that you find Postcards nostalgic, thanks for listening!

My band, Wizzards at Large, just released our second single! These are all on Spotify, Apple Music, and pretty well everywhere else. Our album is in the final stages of recording as well, looking forward to posting release date. Our first single (and b side) came out a little while ago, and they're linked below: I love seeing the music people post here on DW, so I figured I'd throw my hat in the ring. Tell me what you think.

Seconding Obituary, fantastic wad. One of my favorite Ultimate Doom wads. Alien Vendetta and Scythe have been mentioned a bunch, both fantastic wads. I think Scythe is limit removing though, so watch out for that if playing on DOS. I'm going to throw a more goofy suggestion and offer Pandora? It's a wad I worked on, so I'm biased, but it's a fun, lighthearted megawad of old, janky styles made in the modern day. It was a lot of fun, and the team put out some solid levels. Also check out 2022 A Doom Oddyesy by @pcorf and his crew. I believe it's either Boom or MBF compatible, but those ports work on DOS. It's really solid classic Ultimate Doom levels, with interesting episode themes. I especially loved Episode 3, I tested this wad pretty heavily in beta, it was a lot of fun!

Oh interesting, where I'm from sasparilla is made from sassafrass root and has a bitter and sweet flavor. Not any coffee to be mentioned of. I'm curious to try what you're talking about. I guess root beer and ginger beer are two beverages that have no alcohol in them too. I think back in the day, the carbonation in them was made from fermented ginger, which does have alcohol.
-
How strange, do you know where this name comes from? Sasparilla doesn't taste a bit like coffee (or beer) to me. It is funny though. My contribution to the thread: My mom grew up in a rural area, so she didn't have a whole load of money. She and my uncle used to make this unbelievably cursed dish that consisted of a slice of wheat bread, Pizza Quick Sauce (my mom sings the commercial jingle every time we talk about this lol), a Kraft Single's worth of American cheese, and a sprinkle of parmesean cheese. She'd throw it in the oven until the cheese melted and would then feast on her delicacy. I've never been brave enough to try it lol, but maybe I will one of these days. I like throwing cheese unto a tortilla with whatever meat we have left over and frying it in butter.

What is your favorite spefic detail/ room thingie in doom wads?
Dusty_Rhodes replied to Grungo's topic in WAD Discussion
I remember watching Cappellan play through (one of my favorites of his) Demonfear and remarking that he made Map02's ceiling the brown liquid texture so that it would look like a dark night sky. He said it works on low resolution CRTs but looks a but crap today. I can't help but disagree with him though, I love it! -
Game that everybody likes but you dislike
Dusty_Rhodes replied to Ralseiwithagun's topic in Everything Else
Weirdly, I'm in the same boat. I've watched friends and family while they play and the characters are always amazing. I try and play and I'm falling asleep. The ragdolling and third person shooting are really unegaging to me. -
I know I'm digging up an old post here, but doesn't the Italian word for "left handed" mean "evil" too? I could see how language could make a culture be superstitious like that.

Why does "moo" mean "I've returned after a long time?"
Dusty_Rhodes replied to Dusty_Rhodes's topic in Everything Else
You would know better than me, but I think it usually is a forum equivalent of the more modern "dead chat" comments you see to either remark that there's no activity or a long overdue return. I'd swear that has to be a correlation. I feel like I've seen "moo" in other contexts but the more I think about it, the less examples I can actually recall. I appreciate the comment. -
Why does "moo" mean "I've returned after a long time?"
Dusty_Rhodes replied to Dusty_Rhodes's topic in Everything Else
Well inside jokes are a lot of fun, but usually only if you're let inside them. Whenever I get to be a part of a new community, I always find it lame to have to just intuit what certain things mean. If I openly ask, people will complain of newbs ruining the site / game / community / etc. I definitely get your viewpoint, but what's the point in having a jargon page if it doesn't get used? -
Photos of old buildings are always intriguing to me. What was this building used for before it fell into disrepair? Is it supposed to be on the sea, or has the tide crept up over the years.

Thanks for sharing! It looks great. The dark colors keep it very calm, almost subdued. I love how people customize their distros.

Finally! Even if it is a dumb joke, I'm glad to know the origin of it. I love that this in joke is nearly as old as the site. -

Dusty_Rhodes replied to Dusty_Rhodes's topic in Everything Else
This is the other interesting thing about the moo phenomenon: it's always danced around for the bit. I love it, like I said, I'm more worried about the posterity, if it's at all possible. -
Alright, at this point, I've been around the block in the Doom community, but one thing I've always wondered about is where did the "moo" tradition come from? I will say, as an occasional Doomwiki editor, I mostly want to get this preserved under the community jargon page. For those that don't know, if someone is gone from a post, a CP, or a Discord server for a long time, they'll often announce their return with a moo. Do other communities do this? Why do we? When did we start? Is it a reference to something? I love it, but I'm too curious.

Not to show off how much of a newb I am, but what on earth am I looking at? -
What are you currently reading?
Dusty_Rhodes replied to Hawk of The Crystals's topic in Everything Else
Another Tolkien fan! I have The History of the Hobbit and most of the History of Middle Earth, but I've yet to read them. Did you enjoy reading these? -
It's too often that we don't give kids the chance to really create and voice opinions about things. This is a really beautiful example of letting that happen! I also hope you two play more, that sounds like a wonderful family binding experience.

Dusty_Rhodes replied to Hawk of The Crystals's topic in Everything Else
I know I'm digging up an old post here, but have you read any other Orwell novels? I'm a big fan of his stuff that I have read, and am currently working through all of his fiction. I'm excited to get to 1984, as I've never read it. -
German Peter said so. To be fair, I am in complete agreement. I never like constricting projects to a really small list of ports (not that that matters, project leaders should use whatever port they desire, I'm just a turd). But the idea was that 3D floors and real water are easier than using silent teleports and fake floors from Boom. I get the idea, but I also see why people would take interest in it. But to be fair to OP, he is just following what German Peter suggested.

Hey mods, been a while since I've actively posted here, so forgive me if this is the wrong subforum. I love the various French and Russian speedmapping wads. There's a lot of them, and they're always very creative and fun. I feel the national unity almost puts in a spirit of fun and togetherness that you don't see in other wads. I don't really know of many other countries that do this. This begs the question: why don't we see other countries / regions banding together to make more of these? From my anecdotal experience, DW is heavily comprised of American, English, and German users. That may be why; we have a majority, why would we feel the need to make a wad celebrating our presence in the community? I'm a Hoosier. For the DW users that don't hail from the old Etats-Unis, Hoosiers are residents of Indiana, a state in the Midwest. And that's where this concept gets interesting, and more importantly, applicable to countries that have a larger representation on DW. Having wads made by mappers of a specific region. American culture (at its best) is very diverse - every region speaks differently, has different customs, and their own philosophies. I would love to have fellow midwesterners (Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, etc.) join up for a Midwest Speedmapping wad, á la 3 Heurs D'agonie. And really this could go for any country. Maybe Doomers from Cornwall could make a wad, using only Cornish titles and soundtracked Aphex Twin. Kind of a goofy example, but I love these projects, because organization is simple, development time is quick, and the results are always fun and energetic. In conclusion, I'm curious why the organized, regular, national / regional speedmaps are rare. I'm also trying to gage interest in the concept.

Doom, Through the Lens of Video Game Tourism
Dusty_Rhodes replied to Maribo's topic in WAD Discussion
Doom has a very interesting visual style that only gets more interesting with custom textures and sprites. I have walked through some empty levels before, and I always found it relaxing. 90s wads, specifically the shovelware stuff we used to play a lot in the DWSC, was always fascinating to run through in -nomonsters. The visuals were usually super surreal, sometimes horrible, but occasionally incredibly intriguing. As for other 90s wads, Eternal Doom is a favorite for tourism. The dark castles, swirling waters, sleek spaceships, and confusing locales, make for a really rewarding explore.
