I've been at an extremely low point because of what I mentioned above. So I have had zero motivation for anything Doom related, but the family member i'm worried about is recovering well now. Just wanted to reiterate this, I'm not silent quitting. I'll have Map14 finished very soon now that I'm feeling better.

Enjoying it so far! But the blue dudes are beyond insane. So far, I've cheesed every one of them by getting them stuck on walls and backing away I just don't have the reaction speed required, I doubt some others will either, At the VERY least, I seriously suggest either reducing their charge speed a bit, or I'll revisit this later, but at the moment I gave up at the part where you have to fight 2 of them at once at the same time as a bunch of the weaker enemies.

Thanks!! I've finished the balancing and whatnow earlier. So go nuts, and let me know if you see anything borked, ofc! BTW, I assume you modified the Green Orange MIDI?, I love it, but I think it might be too short, and the fade out leaves a couple of seconds of silence. But I'm using it to see if it grows on me during more playtesting for lower difficulties, atm. With that said, here's the map: Map Name: Orbital Spawning Platform Omega MIDI: grnorange.mid by Edwin van Veldhoven (modified by Enzo Carozza?) (using as a placeholder MIDI because I'm not sure it's long enough for the map) Map download: DMIUM2_E1_SECRET_RC1_-_KW.zip Difficulty levels: Yes! Coop and DM starts: Yes (not tested) Ports tested: dsda-doom 0.27.5 Comments: Goddamn I fuckin' love orange circuits.

More puzzle wads like The Given and Unknown

+1 for CC! Not sure how similar it is to The Given or Unknown, since I haven't played much of those, but 666Secrets is full of puzzles! -
MAP01 of my megawad! (DOOM 2)
knifeworld replied to IPlayDoomwaytomuch's topic in WAD Releases & Development
You gotta add some screenshots and say more about the wad, like the map name, map format, whether crouching/jumping/freelook is intended, the type of gameplay you're aiming for. You should also try testing in at least one other port, like dsda-doom, or Crispy Doom, because GZ "fixes" some stuff behind the scenes, even if you use one of the "(strict)" compatibility modes, making it harder to tell when things in your map are borked. One sentence that doesn't even mention the map format, and no screenshots is going to be an automatic no for a lot of people, because we don't get any idea of what the map(s) are like. Edit: Gave the map a go, it's very barebones but having to press on the radio or whatever it is to open the door was cool, doomcute chairs were neat, too. HOM here: Hellknights are facing the wrong way here, but it got a laugh out of me that's for sure. Keep mapping! Looking forward to something more polished in the future. -
i have an idea for a wad but need help
knifeworld replied to KABOM93's topic in WAD Releases & Development
The 69th "I have an idea for a megawad can you make everything for me" thread this week. But yeah, no. Seriously, these are getting really silly now.. OP, learn to make maps yourself, and if it sucks then keep making more, keep watching tutorials and playing other PWADS. Unironically one of the best ways to start off is to play more wads you like and try making something inspired by them, (Read: not copypasting from them, nor copying from IWADs, or generating with AI, etc..) I really just mean come up with something based on what you enjoy playing.- 52 replies

After the "doom awards" AI slop, I'm really not surprised to hear that the same guy compiled a pack of stolen textures.

DooM II Map Interpretation Project (Slots Open)

A first map made entirely from scratch is very different from doing minimal edits to a map from a commercially released game. -
DooM II Map Interpretation Project (Slots Open)
knifeworld replied to Abandoned_Account's topic in WAD Releases & Development
You'd be better off entirely reimagining the levels based loosely on what each area looks like it's supposed to be, rather than "slightly edit the original maps" ... We've had 3 or 4 of these threads now, including this one, they're pushing other stuff down the list, and potentially pulling some people away from making better use of their time by doing something original.- 42 replies

I experimented with AI images last year, I found it fascinating to see what it would come up with, I even considered the idea of hosting a community project where mappers would build maps based on what the resulting images looked like following promts such as "twisted demonic landscape of flesh" or whatever. So please understand what I'm going to say isn't just coming from nowhere! The novelty and interest I had for it quickly wore off after I started to see how AI was being used to steal from artists, or to lazily generate images out of the blue with zero actual artistic effort or skill, and yeah, sorry but it IS lazy. AI images were something fun to mess around with or look at a year or two ago, like "Deus Ex but it's an 80's cyberpunk movie" videos, but now it's getting rather concerning, just at a glance many images images look real, and I think it's reached a point where half of the images i come across are not real, but generated. The singular good thing, at least for now, is that once you look for more than 5 seconds you notice all the flaws, weird half-symmetrical details that no human would ever draw like bolts or protrusions that don't match up with anything else, the fuckin hands, stuff in the background melting into everything else... It doesn't matter how hard it was for you to get the AI to spit out what you wanted, nor how skilled you are at real art, because at the end of the day you haven't actually worked on anything, despite what you said, you haven't "crafted" a single thing, at least with those images. I'm really not trying to be mean here, or to say people shouldn't use AI ever, far from it, I'm just saying that at the very least, AI users should be honest with themselves regarding the fact that once images have been churned out by a program in less than a minute, absolutely nothing has actually been "crafted" and no real creative skill or effort has been used.

Popping in to say my map has been close to done for a while now, I'm just focusing on getting my Doomium 2 stuff out the door first! Strangely, I thought my map went over 1000 lines last time I checked and I'd have to chop away hours of work. But it's not, maybe I was sleep deprived and confused the sidedef count for the linedefs, who knows!

Map name: Painful Bonus Author: knifeworld Music: goldeneye_cradle2.mid from VGMUSIC.com Restrictions: All from the first list (except for "1 monster type", and 3tex3flat if you consider using only 2 flats as breaking the rule lol), + bunch of barrels Notes: A speedmap to alleviate mappers block. Also managed to get exactly 100 linedefs and 10 sectors unintentionally. TEX: BRIDGE09, ZZZFACE3, ZZZFACE4 FLAT: TLITE65G, CARPETRD MDSSP KW.zip

Same here, to be honest... I've been thinking of removing my map for a while now, but figured the lead might eventually come back so doing that would slow the project down even more. But at this point it's been so long I don't care. This is just my personal take, but I wouldn't bother contacting them, it's been far too long now.
