  1. I like the pyramid in speed of doom's map32. It's climbable, and you do climb it for combat purposes and progression, it's part of the gameplay. If you rely on it to hide from the chaos below you'll definitely remember it as integral to the map
  2. It's ok Map10 UV-Max in 1:38 rc2510m138.zip (Gave me a reason to re-do the run with more effort put in. You can beat this if you just want to, I'd be curious to see how easily)
  3. Plutonia map01 UV-Max + Reality in 2:30 pl01reality230.zip
  4. Nice practice to break my habit of posting things that 99% of the time nobody needs
  5. Kinda want to tablefill this wad more but I couldn't remember which maps I enjoy more. While idcleving through the maps to refresh my memory I got to map08 and went "oh yeah that map was neat, let's see what I can do". It is pretty fun Map08 UV-Max in 5:02 roc2508m502.zip
  6. I don't know how to do zeropresses yet so I can't test but, in advance, oh no
  7. I speedran map32 when the wad was still in RC state, but it desyncs now sadly. The time I had was 2:17 if anyone wants to beat it now (I don't, the map has a big issue with enemies just wandering away from you and hiding)
  8. Realm of chaos 25th anniversary edition map32 (didn't notice "optional only" before posting, but I guess the sequence is fun)
  9. Map24 UV-Max + Reality in 2:57 sc24reality257.zip
  10. What kind of prefer? If you mean what I'd rather use at any time, there's no room for preference there. You use whatever is more fitting for the situation. If cells are limited you can't even use bfg whenever you want, you have to save it. Some situations where it's good for are like when you need to free yourself from very cramped spots as you get cornered by enemies, quickly take out a very high threat enemy/group, etc. It's not about chaingun or bfg, it's when to use the bfg. When you're routing a difficult map (for a speedrun or even a saveless completion, I often do the latter) deciding where to spend the BFG and how much is a pretty important decision. If you mean what we think is a more fun weapon it's BFG for me for sure, it's powerful, quite complex and has one of the highest skill ceilings of all weapons. There are lots of strategy and interesting tricks involving it. Chaingun does the job but is somewhat boring in comparsion, it's just a fast pistol. Strategy and tricks for it are basically limitied to tapping it for perfect accuracy. It depends on the map honestly, a map that only gives you a chaingun and very fun combat to solve with it can be better than a bfg-spammy map too.
  11. Make the map what you'd want to play yourself
  12. I can play the dos version so none that I really require. But I still prefer having higher res, fps, being able to change keybinds for anything including cheats and quick demo restart
  13. Don't really care about the topic of the thread but want to respond to some posts As a modding platform doom 2 because the community can realize its potential well, but if we're talking about vanilla maps, only in doom 2 you can get a screenshot as beautiful as this:
  14. It's also my favorite. It's a port with very nice polish that doesn't change the original gameplay at all, staying demo compatible
  15. Archviles revive pain elementals, cyberdemons. masterminds and other archviles (I don't want to change doom much tbh. Let the gameplay stay the same like chess has for hundreds of years)
  16. I don't agree that achievements are inherently bad. Their execution is often bad, and the worst ones like spend 100 shells in a single level, spend 10 hours standing still total or beat e1m8 are just pointless. But IMO they have very good potential if you approach designing them as offering a player challenges or an interesting experience instead of a chore list. The kind of achievements I like are offering you an interesting challenge that you wouldn't have thought of doing yourself (or even would, if you aren't into self-imposed challenges but are a completionist). A challenge that tests you in a way that the normal game doesn't, makes you try new options, resort to unusual strategies, make use of obscure mechanics knowledge, and overall just get a different experience of the same game.
  17. is this a math problem?
  18. I haven't played all of the official maps, but TNT map09: stronghold is my favorite. Straight up slaughter map, the most enemies in a single map out of all iwads. All of them are low tier enemies, iirc the map doesn't use any enemy other than a hitscanner, an imp or a pinky, and they are really easy to pop rapidly with the SSG and chaingun. It's almost junkfood-like gameplay but the map is punishing enough to careless players that it doesn't feel like it takes zero effort to enjoy the slaughter. So, it's just a fun map to me
