How do I run freedoom. I've downloaded it and I am looking at the files but I don't see any application file

I'm just curious as to what DOOM makers I should use. Also I am unable to afford DOOM for PC, but would I be able to use a similar game that supports WAD files?

Is there anyway for me to submit a speedrun that is not a demo. I play on the Unity port on PS4 and I don’t have access to demos. Thanks
