I think that the combination between shotgun and chaingun combat, and the hitscanner shootouts this WAD offers are really fun and engaging. Pinky Demons are placed in areas where they're not frustrating, (The opposite being something I see very often, nice work Romero :P.) My only issue with this WAD is that one or two of the secrets, specifically those found in the darkened tech room, are sort of esoteric. The one where you have to jump from a platform isn't the worst, but the one for the Mega-Armour is annoying and in my opinion, unfair to find. Despite these small issues, I think that Phobos Mission Control is an excellent and exciting level to run through, and I applaud Romero for returning to the Doom Community to make new levels.

Things about Doom you still don't understand
Skittle replied to Sonikkumania's topic in Doom General
Somehow I can't really get the hang of Archvile Jumping. I assume as long as I keep practicing it'll come to me eventually. -
Personally I always looked forwards to Music, since we got to mess around on the keyboards and the really crappy DAW software they had on the computers. If I recall correctly it was some variation of eJay. Funnily enough despite how rarely I payed attention to any of what they were trying to teach me, I think that those classes are what got me interested in my own music learning journey down the road, DAWs specifically.

Doom 1 & Doom 2 maps that tripped you up on your first playthrough
Skittle replied to Doomkid's topic in Doom General
When I was going through Doom 2 for the first time, I spent a good while figuring out how to approach 'Tricks and Traps'. Something about the relative freedom in your ways to approach the level and the really tight ammo had me scratching my head for a bit. Eventually I realised you can bring the Cacodemons into the room with the Cyberdemon and Barons, to have them all in-fight, thus saving on ammo. After that it was just making sure I didn't fall into the goo in the room before the exit... I fell in multiple times. It is what it is though, it's not that difficult to me anymore. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ -
Over the past few weeks I've been slowly picking away at The Hobbit, after watching the movies a while back and wondering what the differences between the two mediums were. So far, it's been alright! The language is a little wordy and can be obtuse to parse at times, (Likely just my fault...) but regardless of that it's been a really fun experience. Hopefully, it can get me back into a reading mood overall, as I've been collecting books I'm intent on reading for a long time: The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, Don Quixote and the first Halo Novel to name a few. Once I finish it I'm thinking of reading some Discworld, but my mind is fickle when it comes to deciding future activities. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I've not watched many since I'm not much of a movie guy, however out of the films I've seen the 2005 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is probably the worst remake. Something about it just completely misses the mark for me. I can appreciate them trying to go in a new direction and give Wonka a more fleshed out backstory, but it's done really weirdly and in my opinion pulls the movie away from the original premise too much. I've watched it twice and each time, there was a thought in the back of my mind that I'd have a better time watching the original. (I watched it with friends who decided to watch it, it'd be weird of me to say anything.) Regardless of my preference to the 1971 film, it has some positives of it's own I enjoy greatly. Johnny Depp was a great actor throughout and gave his own spin on Willy Wonka, which was much appreciated. (Can't beat good ol' Gene though.) The use of colours throughout the movie were brilliant in my opinion. All the props and sets throughout the factory were so vibrant and varied, it's awesome. That's really all I can think of though. Still worth a watch if you havent seen it.

Something about the snappiness of the Arachnotron death sound really does it for me, very satisfying to hear. Other great sounds (in no particular order) include: Both the Archvile's awaken and death sounds. The Revenant's death sound. The Imp's awaken, roaming and death sounds. (Still makes me laugh that the death sounds for the Imp are just camel noises, but you've got to hand it to Bobby Prince for creativity.) That's everything off the top of my head.

What was the first Doom source port you have used?
Skittle replied to Lizardcommando's topic in Doom General
Regrettably, I started with GZDoom. Nothing against people who use GZDoom, but nowadays I barely use it, preferring PrBoom+ for it's vanilla-ness... vanilla-ness, is that a word? Whatever. I'll come back to GZDoom every so often for maps that need it, but that's about it. -

I actually tried setting up some hotkeys for myself alongside switching to ESDF, a little while back. Unfortunately, I couldn't get used to the new layout, even with the added comfort for my hands, so I swapped back to using the number keys for weapons and WASD for movement. Maybe at some point I'll try it again. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I just found MtPain's channel recently, and I've been binging his vids. Often times I wont agree with his ratings, but like he says, it's all part of the fun :)

Well, on the singleplayer end I'm trying to beat as many Ultimate Doom WADs as I can find before I go on to play Doom 2. Right now I'm playing through Deathless, and the map design and decoration might be my favourite from a custom mapset yet. As for multiplayer me and a buddy are going to start playing through Memento Mori soon, and I'm excited to see how that goes.

Heh, I suppose that'd be a pretty easy way to bulk up on your mapmaking skills to huh? Didn't think of that.

Demonfear sounds really cool, I love compact levels that you can just zoom through. That'll be the first one I check out from your list! :P
