bigups to insomnia here's some text for interpretation, it could be interpreted as a "yap" from a bozo and/or doofus but it is text nonetheless - less about aesthetic edge and more about vibration/tone/resonance but edges do vibrate too. (this is/can be about Doom) the oldhead idsoft singleplayer first person exploration games (iam only accounting for base content for this juncture) that also happen to feature projectile and/or hitscan expulsion in a predominant mechanical role (all but one of them from 91-05 [no shade to those who like That One {it's a sequel}]) are experiences i tend to interpret as "powerlessness fantasies". desolate realms of death and disorientation. when stripped of the amphetaSpeed guitar aesthetic [not a dig at the style but whaddya think "motorhead" means] The Dooms've still got an "edge". the powerlessness is primarily aided by environment-first design with exploration as a guiding principle, and the encounters the player... encounters * are * part of the environment, an environment that asks 2 things of the player - explore and survive, the priority of which is a variable perpetually in flux. disorientation within an environment that is as much of an adversarial foe as the (simulatated) entities that reside within isn't the primary tenement of this "powerlessness fantasy" that boggles around my (what some might presume to be hollow) skull any time im in the video's game zone with the Dooms, but that concept has been lingering 'round my brain for quite some time. doom in particular is something i always recognize, regardless of any particular map's approach or scale, as a dungeon stg - as much gradius as there is wizardry (and ad&d). maybe i just tend to gravitate towards Games of video that culminate in overcoming those initial feelings of powerlessness through environmental and mechanical exploration, at my own pace, on as much of my own terms as the rapid autonomously crunched numbers will allow me to. (!!!SUBJECTIVITY WARNING) when i tried to play the newdooms recently (revisiting '16 and refunding turnal), i got the same taste in my synapses as i get from Serious Devil May Vanquish Ultrapainkiller: it's like painkillers, the edge is dulled (or perhaps resharpened to an angle i do not like to use) but my adversaries still keep coming for me regardless of the room/area i'm in, i wish they could be ignored (sometimes they can). the positive feelings i get from it are... fine, slightly liberating at first but do not last beyond the current day. to get "the most out of it" carries the potential to drive me to an all consuming compulsion of a begrudged "ugh fine maybe i'll try this one more". it's not for me, at least for most of the time. but when i (perhaps mistakenly) convince myself that it is for me, after a while, sooner than i expect, i no longer feel like me, rounded down to only my flaws. frustration of the "i'm not mad, i'm just disappointed" sort at my own self and own performance. my terms? now under external control. hedonia wanes. desperately reaching for anything to put the edge back on. but not desperate enough to collect funko pops. (SUBJECTIVITY WANING!!!) acting out of hedonism??? *spits* goodbye logic!!!! gamed videos? absolutely a hedonistic pursuit, constructed from logic itself, but hedonistic nonetheless. they darn sure cool as heck though, and despite being a relatively young medium it's crazy how diverse they became so quickly. so many different vibes for so many different humans. perhaps the experiences ive had with the powerlessness reality of this hell on earth are accompanied best by occasionally working my way through one of hundreds of those silly (often) old "powerlessness fantasy", of which those earlier dooms are 4*∞ of them, yeah tastes and life experiences differ despite having "life" itself, neurons and various sensory inputs in common. humanity is shared amongst humans. no matter how powerless i feel, there will always be that balancing act of exploration and survival. imma survive. bet.

elden ring is derivative mid. sure, go ahead, take the dodgerollemup armored core-meets-king's field/shadow tower, a style that works best as a focused set of dungeon drudges (be it interconnected a-la king's field 2/4 & dark souls or a set of discrete areas a-la shadow tower and demon's souls [and the Goth Version of demon's souls]), and turn it into a big elder-scrolls-esque map with plenty of copy-paste dungeons and pallete swap enemies to Hit The I-Frame Button to. it was disheartening to see that they pretty much hadn't done anything but an i-frame timing dungeon drudge with Epic Video Game Boss Battles™ for close to a decade at that point. when they were putting out an armored core game just about every year from 1997-2008 they were releasing all sorts of other games, some relatively conventional, many far more experimental than anything they've done since after demon's souls. if the first 6th gen armored core game had not ended up still feeling like an armored core game (even though it unfortunately has a small amount of soulsbrain, couldve used half the amount of Video Game Boss Battles™ and 3x the amount of enemy ACs, hope it gets rectified with AC 6.5), i would've been convinced that from software completely lost their way, getting way too lost in that dodgeroll sauce. well, at least they're getting blank checks from the Mobile Suit PacMan company, would love to see a return to the creative spirit they had during the 6th console gen. if you want a better example of derivative mid by from software that starts with the letter E and ends in "Ring", they've had you covered since the launch of the playstation 2, regardless of what region you're in. the unhelpful Get Good brained garbage has been a permanent scar with long-lasting consequences, and its effects are far more widespread beyond video games by from software with a release date later than the fifth of feburary, two thousand and nine. but it must be said that from software is not a new company and has been developing games with a remarkably unwavering design philosophy since the early 90's. i can never not recommend evergrace or metal wolf chaos, the latter of which got ported to recent consoles and windows with the text translated. the king's field (especially 2 and 4) and shadow tower series contain some of the best usage of the first person perspective in all of interactive media, they're still uncompromising with vague exposition (it took me around 6 hours to find a save point in king's field 2 at firs), but they play closer to system shock than 3d zelda. the king's field and shadow tower games in comparison to their spiritual successors are a more relaxing experience after the first few hours, but always tense through the atmosphere alone. as far as their recent games go, all but demon's souls didn't really click with me at first until i laid the contextual groundwork of the games on a mechanical/structural level (armored core build variance+king's field/shadow tower world design+3d zelda combat), while trying to erase as much of the past 10 years of "haha git gud mad cause bad" from the subconscious. the pc port should've just been released as "Dark Souls: With Artorias Of The Abyss Edition" worldwide imo -

it's the Butyric acid they (hershey's, probably others following suit) put in there because people started to get used to the souring milk they used to make it with, complaining once they started using fresh milk. it's a uhhhh, distinct, recognizable taste. i find 74-78% to be the best range but really anything past 70% cocoa is good ass chocolate. then again, i really like black coffee and unsweetened green tea.

i have been using them for just as long, if not longer. it is very hard to believe that you haven't been advertised to via the internet on a computer's web browser, even with 100% blockrate on a script that makes zero exceptions. the advertisement comes in many forms that aren't banner or video midroll ads. there are many sneaky at best, downright insidious at worst, forms of advertisement on the information superhighway that cannot be blocked out with a script so easily. you might catch it partway through an article's body text when they seem to incessantly sing the praises of a material product without even the slightest criticism, nor disclosure of payment from the providing party. or maybe the IP of some "anonymous" post telling people to die for an oil company lines up with an office that preys on people to get them to do just that. you've probably seen, at the bare minimum, a handful of advertisements in those ten years, without realizing that they were advertisements.

watched a friend play it for a little bit today (currently broke, and previously "i have 3 copies of this on compact disc, why should i ever need to buy it digitally") the motion blur absolutely rules, the only good implementation of that i've *ever* seen. looks straight out of a fragmovie. would love to see a version of action quake 2 easily delivered to the masses through this one day <3

after like 4-5 months my claws usually break because i use them as a multipurpose organic (sans potential microplastics) tool daily, or they start to get burned when using a lighter/matches before they become long enough to be an issue with computer keyboards. on my thinkpads its a bit easier to actuate the keys accidentally regardless of finger "posture", but i use heavy keyswitches on my desktop and rarely have problems accidentally hitting keys in games or typing. typically max out at around 1.5-2 cm from the fingertip, but if i have to do any substantial work on my car they get snipped before that, i'd rather do that than potentially get declawed... again. less related to the question but interesting nonetheless and i feel like rambling sorry not sorry - the keyboards on the demonic touchscreen pocket computers with WWAN are incredibly frustrating to use after like... maybe .5cm of growth (i still consider that fairly short, not long enough to be utilitarian), but those are a cursed object to begin with and should be used as little as possible (i get a feeling mine uses me more than i use it, Thanks G--gle!!). -
armored core 6, and armored core 6 alone. i broke my personal code and ended up pre-ordering a AAA video game (you probably don't need to guess) for the first time since destiny (yuck). twenty five days to go.... seems like we might so fucking back, fellow ravens, new and old.
