Laying the myths and misconceptions to rest...
heliumlamb replied to OliveTree's topic in Doom General
anybody who states that John Doom Guy has anything other than demon destruction on the mind is actively engaging in volcel erasure. -
do not forget to include the elusive "theresa wad", a "Doom" modification where it all seems like a "Normal" map, until a Cacodemon suddenly grows arms and proceeds to give John-Doom "Slayer" Guy headpats ad infinitum. the "theresa wad" has been one of the most important facets of computer game history, up there with Sir-Tech's Wizardry (1981)

sewer haters DNI the depths+blighttown from dork soles might be the masterpiece of videogame sewers. they genuinely feel like a disgusting, harrowing place, especially in the depths when falling through a hole where a drainage grate once was, only to be turned to stone (subsequently halving your HP) from a mist emitted by some silly looking frog fiend. blighttown rules as well, a sort of rough/impromptu stronghold of wood and rope branching off from the runoff pipes, with the vile sewage swamp at the very bottom. adamantine cruelty (for quake) and a good chunk of CZG's quake maps are all S tier sewers as far as i'm concerned. i don't have firsthand experience (was watching a friend play a few years ago), but the subway leading into the sewers in silent hill 3 looked very well executed and like a good, fun (do not forget: fun is relative, not objective!) wastewater time.

Pieces Of Media You Can't Believe Were Made By The Same Person?
heliumlamb replied to DSC's topic in Everything Else
the original 1983 optimus prime (as well as other diaclone/transformers mecha) and the mechs from the first 4 generations of armored core were designed in part by Watanabe Kazutaka. they also did mechanical design for macross and omega boost, but that's more believable than the silly semi truck super robot compared to the corporate puppets from the best wetwork simulator up until cruelty squad. -

fellow doomers, any mobile games you like?
heliumlamb replied to SteveRock's topic in Everything Else
pour one out for action button entertainment's ZIGGURAT also used to play llamasoft's gridrunner (still available as an APK over here) and the ios port of dodonpachi daifukkatsu quite regularly. have no interest in gambling for waifus, which seems to be the overwhelming majority of mobile games these days, already spent enough gambling for respiratory diseases. the less i use that hell rectangle, the better. -
What Video Game Are You Currently Playing?
heliumlamb replied to Neurosis's topic in Everything Else
oh no i'm playing the "king's field but third person and with dodgerolls" games once again (i'll have to dig the ps3 back out the predecessor, "shadow tower abyss without guns and also third person+dodgeroll"). AND, this time, i'm enjoying them?!?!?! mad because bad?? couldnt be me. laughin all the way to the bank. they're just silly, dark fantasy benny hill. put my replay of eternal ring aside for these, and it BETTER be worth it. this in mind, i am hoping against hope that armored core 6 will be a proper return to form for the old pig feeding software company. i can't help but feel they got a bit too lost in the dodgeroll sauce in the past decade. i need goofy shit again like cookie and cream, metal wolf chaos or evergrace, not dodgeroll skyrim part 2. -

no, virtua fighter was also AM2, its DNA is definitely in shenmue's combat. whereas Sonic R was done by Traveller's Tales, who worked on Puggsy, Sonic 3D Blast, Toy Story and many of the LEGO Star Wars games. -
Things about non-Doom video games you just found out
heliumlamb replied to Individualised's topic in Everything Else
after spending no less than 5 hours in ad_sepulcher (+ my unending love for marathon 2/infinity, shadow tower & shadow tower abyss and the best missions in the first armored core [that sprawling poison bug dungeon-lab <3<3<3]) - i can safely that quake would have hit either as hard, or harder, if id had ended up focusing solely on environmental sound to provide the atmosphere over primarily using redbook audio. i'm just glad that quake was even a game that got released, tbh. tonight i found out about kronn hunter mode in atari's area 51, which is basically a different scenario with a garish, f'd up pallete. serving that cruelty squad visual vibe. it absolutely rules. (!!! PHOTOSESNSITIVITY WARNING FOR THIS VIDEO !!!) -
i will give up this hole, but i did post that one a while back over here.

the 3DO interactive multiplayer is absolutely insane. its relatively open barrier to development, both for hardware and software, blessed us an amalgamation of multimedia sludge, small devs experimenting with full motion video (D, the incomprehensible Neo Organic Bioform), stuff that just wouldn't fly on anything but a home computer like The Life Stage: Virtual House, and grifter ghouls such as the founder of art data interactive. daisy chaining controllers??? Immercenary?????? only on the 3DO interactive multiplayer babey. saturn and dreamcast i think would be my personal favorite as far as like, software quality goes. in terms of hardware quality (not performance), the saturn is on point. the saturn pad is the best to ever do it, no contest, it's like having an astro city control panel for your thumbs. absolutely silent disc drive. my favorite saturn fact is that it (just slightly) outsold the n64 in its home country, which is reflected by the quality of the ntsc-j saturn library.
