Doom 2 In City Only [Now on idgames]
CrazyJeff replied to myolden's topic in WAD Releases & Development
Ah, your clue helped me find it. I had to look up what you meant by "zebra" though. I'm from the US and that's not a term we use. Everything appears to be working in gzdoom, but I'll probably do a playthrough with dsda also. This mapset doesn't mess around obscure secrets. I mangaged to solve the cyberdemon puzzle in map 9 (similar to a puzzle in map 6) but that 6th secret in map 9 is eluding me, even the map cheat won't show where it is xD. This is a really impressive megawad, I'm not dropping frames at all despite how large and detailed these levels are. I can't wait til I get to Egypt :) -
Doom 2 In City Only [Now on idgames]

There's a secret in map 5 that contains an invisibility and supercharge. I don't think its obtainable (at least in gzdoom) but if I'm wrong could I get a hint? I've already tried slade and youtube. -
That is interesting, as vanilla limitations get fewer each year, maybe that could be improved at some point. I overuse the weather mod, so that's why it felt weird to not hear the rain. Anyway, I found all the secret rocket launchers, the most difficult to obtain(and the most necessary) being e1m8. I wonder what the ep2 non secret weapon will be. My next challenge is to complete ng+. I expect it to be pretty rough because I play with a controller. I'll be keeping an eye out for for ep2. If any gzdoom specific testing is needed, you can count me in :) One last thing, your choice of music for each level was perfect, we must be from the same generation. I ... might have made a music mod for this mapset ... I know its not vanilla, but having the real versions of those songs playing in the background takes the RUST experience to next level tier, especially on the secret map. Its like being a kid again, where playing the same game over and over never gets old.

@Arsinikk Excellent work! So it was random, and not decals? I thought I was losing my mind. It seems to be working perfectly now. I'm still playing this because I have found every secret rocket launcher except the first one. Also, I've been using the universal rain mod, not for the rain effect (the one you made is great), but for the rain and thunder sound effects. Which I'm assuming might not be possible to do in vanilla, as the sound effect fades when inside buildings.

This is the best DOOM1 mapset I've played since 2017's Cacoward winning No End In Sight. I even played through it again to get the code for that codex program, which is the coolest thing ever. I hope things like that become more common. And I can't wait for the next episode. However, I encountered the strangest glitch I've ever seen. With GZDOOM 4.12.1, the pit elevator in e1m8 will not raise. That itself isn't strange, the way to fix it is. By the process of elimination: "cl_maxdecals 0" MUST be in autoexec.cfg ... then the elevator will work. Turning off decals any other way will have no effect. If we have any GZDOOM guru's around here, I'm genuinely curious to learn how decals could do this.

Could we get a reup elsewhere? Google Drive doesn't work. I've tried two computers so far.

[GZDoom] DOOM CE: PSX TC & D64 Retribution, overhauled
CrazyJeff replied to molecicco's topic in WAD Releases & Development
Okay, I was wondering about that, no big deal then. I just have to say, this has got to be the best way to enjoy everything DOOM 64 has to offer. And in one convenient package, with SO many options. I'm having a great time with this :) -

The Reckoning chapter says 0/0 secrets on every map. -
The cvar's I used are: gl_precache-This dramatically reduces (but not eliminate) stutter when a scripted event triggers, or a new large area loads. gl_sort_textures-I don't know what this does, but this boosted my frames as much as 10fps in many areas. gl_finishbeforeswap-I think this works similar to triplebuffer, so it only helps if vsync is on. fps gain can be as high as 20+ frames! These were tested by using the in-game fps counter. I'm running a 6 core i7. At 4Ghz, I can maintain 60fps 99% of the time. But I like lower thermals, so I cap my cpu at 2.5Ghz. At that speed, I can hold 60fps 75% of the time. For the most consistent performance, I enable cl_capfps. 35fps is perfectly sufficient to enjoy this game. I hope these tips can help somebody. I'm now off to finish the Realm of Fire :)

Sorry it took me a while to reply, I didn't know new members had a post limit. Anyway, I have not been able to repeat the glitch. I even replayed W4 twice. It must have been a fluke. Probably due to me constantly changing settings to get better performance. Well, I succeeded at that. I managed to dramatically reduce stutter, and significantly increase fps by enabling just three cvars! I'm very happy about that because this is the best mapset I've played since Alien Vendetta :)
