I have this strange nostalgic fetish for VHS movies. Maybe it's just the fact that I grew up during the 1990s and I hate to see that part of my youth just go to waste, or maybe it's the fact that the little 12" TV I own is like ten years old and has a built-in VCR. Either way, I've amassed a nice little collection of VHS tapes that I take with me everywhere I go for more than a few days at a time that I am still adding to constantly. Just today, I stopped at the local Exchange and bought 9 more movies at $1 apiece, and it inspired me to catalogue my collection:

Some of these I've had since I was a kid, others I've come across since I began my VHS revival a couple of years ago. Eventually, I want to reach the point where I have a nice, diverse collection of films, so that there's nothing really integral from my youth that I'm missing. Right now, there's about 20 more movies that I really would like to find, after which I think I would be satisfied. After all, videos tend to be somewhat unwieldy compared to today's technology and I would like this collection to be finite.
However, I'm always open to suggestions. The only parameters are that it has to be something that came out before 2002, which when my family got its first device capable of playing DVDs, thus finally beginning to render my video cassettes obsolete. Apart from that, it just needs to be something that I could always put in and enjoy, a film that does well to represent its genre in the particular era in which it came out.- Show previous comments 28 more

Many CDs of mid-1960s albums are the stereo versions. Mono typically sounded better at that time until the industry "perfected" stereo (which is still arguable for a lot of later music). Stereo was new to most artists at the time, and they weren't sure how to get the most out of it, but mono was no problem.
This is one reason many mono vinyl records from the mid sixties sound better than the stereo CD versions. -
You know, the whole matter was covered by James Randi years ago.

Hmm loudness war... maybe not entirely relevant to that article but I have noticed CD's becoming louder and louder as time goes by.
I mean, like how NakedSnake is a big fan of AC/DC, I'm a big fan of Dream Theater. So as such, when I'm switching from album to album I notice these sound levels increase.
Their debut album is relatively quiet, and I always have to increase the volume from what it was previously on (mostly because alot of the music I listen to is post-1989). The second album is slightly more louder but not really noticeable. But then suddenly, come 1994 and you get the third album, there is a huge boost of volume... and every suceeding album does increase in volume, though sometimes not so evidently.
It really annoys me actually because I'll put together a playlist on iTunes of different songs from different albums. When one song finishes and the next begins, it's like BANG and (while listening to headphones already at quite a high level) it's really frustrating. Having to quickly unzip everything to get to my iPod just to turn the damn thing down a bit.
