    Warming Up
  1. I have vague faith in ID to make a good game, unlike most AAA devs. Both nu Doom games really scratched an itch for me. So long as it can run on this PC, I'll be excited for whatever kind of Doom game they'll make.
  2. Commenting to remind myself of this. I have a level in mind, actually, though I feel its worth asking - is it considered bad form to submit a level you make to two different projects/megawads?
  3. I've been hankering to make a doom map for a while, and this sounds like an ideal place to start, actually. +1 to the megawad idea!
  4. Arch-Violence is my ideal horror map - it's hard enough to be demoralising, and the arch viles are very effective at jumpscaring you since, well, they're archies. The music, and the idle noises from the viles (which, after an hour of trying to beat the damn thing, sound like mocking laughter) are the creme de la creme of what makes it really effective and atmospheric.
  5. This little number is part of the reason TNT's is my favourite opening level in commerical Doom.
  6. 10/10, works perfectly as a tomb.
  7. This one isn't as impressive on the outside as it is inside - Map 06 from Golden Souls 1, Daring Desert. The level, being set in the pyramid, is far more claustrophobic than most of the wad, but it's a nice change of pace all the same. A lot of GZDoom features are used pretty well here. There's even a neat cameo near the end.
  8. Ahh, I see. I don't know what gave me the impression the team was at least somewhat similar among each project, especially since I've only played two of them. That's one nice thing about these projects - their length. Megawads are great when they're good enough to justify that length, but they can really feel like a slog at times (especially if you play a lot of longer, more difficult ones in succession), so a shorter, or much shorter map set sounds appealing right now. I think I'll download Mutiny and keep it in my WAD folder for later, along with a lot of other wads I'm interested but haven't played yet. I got into this scene way too late, hahaha. Thanks for the suggestion!
  9. Good timing! I was literally just done watching MtPain27's Dean of Doom Season 3 finale, and that wad was featured. It's not as "flashy" visually as Auger, but seeing the unique mechanics, like the NPCs and interactables, as well as the aesthetic and some of the vistas, gave me a feeling I don't think I've felt since I first played Glass Messiah a good while ago. Thank you very much for the link, I'll definitely check it out!
  10. Until recently, I think I would've said small but fierce maps, that I can feel challenged by but without getting overly frustrated at not being able to beat. But playing through Alien Vendetta, Beast Island and Misri Halek have converted me into a fan of "adventure" style maps that are longer and "easier", though the difficulty there comes from trying not to make a stupid mistake anywhere and then having to play the whole thing again, lol. It also helps that both of those maps are really pretty.
  11. Title speaks for itself. To elaborate anyway - I LOVE Auger Zenith. It's my favourite wad visually, and the combat's certainly nothing to sneeze at, either. The difficulty is right around my comfort zone too (maybe a smidge too easy). I want to play more DBP WADs like it, assuming they exist, because I already know those guys can create an amazing WAD. The only other one I've tried was Cyb's Freak Colonoscopy, and it didn't really scratch that itch in the same way. It was also far more challenging. Assuming the DBP team haven't really made anything like Auger before or since, I'll be more than grateful for suggestions for wads like it outside of the DBP sphere. I've played a few wads, mostly the really popular community ones, but nothing's really felt quite like Augur.
