Hey guys, thought I'd post some of my progress. It's been a little bit slow because of Uni work. I have the first quarter of the map pretty much done, just some texturing/lighting work to do. The rest is in blockout stages right now, but I have a plan of where I'll go with it. This is meant to be a survival map, and I take that as being a resource management challenge so I've spent a lot of time tweaking each fight and trying to keep the player always on the edge, but giving them just enough to push through. I do have some worry that if the player comes in here fully loaded from the previous maps, they're just going to breeze through it -- To a point where I was considering asking if we could somehow force a pistol start here, but I'm still on the fence about it. There's little ammo and a lot of combat, target prioritisation is a must here. Most of the ammo you'll be getting will come from killing the various hitscan enemies, and I've tried working that into the difficulty options too. If you play on a UV, some of those hit-scanners will be swapped out for Imps, and there'll be a few more bullet sponge enemies that -- i'm hoping -- a smarter player will recognise the waste of ammo and dance around the issue.

Alright. So, as my map is beyond MAP15 but is a secret map, should I stick to the same difficulty and monsters as that chapter, or do I move into the next and add revenants etc?

Do I have to keep monster holders for teleport "traps" inside the 3072x3072 area?

Shotgun has different uses to the SSG. Plasma rifle has different uses to the BFG. The pistol & chaingun relationship is really the only one where the former is objectively worse than the latter, whilst both sharing the same ammo. -

Awesome, will do! I'll keep you posted with my progress and to get any pointers from yourself on what you'd like to see. I'll just say now that I'm no speed mapper, and part of the reason I wanted to join this project was the generous deadline that works well with my busy schedule. I doubt anything will get in the way of finishing in time but I'll let you know if anything comes up. I typically use UDMF because I'm a filthy GZDoomer casual but I welcome the challenge of the older formats. One question I have in regards to the rules is; by 'limit-removing ports' does that mean I can use Boom format, or should I just stick with good ol' Doom 2 format?

Man, I can't imagine Doom without the cybernetic enemies. I think it adds so much to the mystery and narrative of the game. It wouldn't be doom without the UAC's shenanigans and modifications to demons. It'd just be like.. wow shoot demons okay. UAC would be boring as a "secret evil science company" if their only evil science was "oo i made a weird teleport ooo spooky" -

I thought UV was the intended, "normal" difficulty, lol. Like what? -
I think Sigil is pretty meh to be honest, much like Thy Flesh Consumed it just messes up continuity of the original episodes and comes off pretty random. I'd have received it better if it was marketed just like any other wad instead of being something canon that happened somehow in the doorway/teleporter moment in-between Doom 1 and 2.

I'd participate but it'd likely take a long time for me to get a map done, and probably wouldn't even be that good ;)

I suppose you could replace the DOOM II skies with DOOM I skies quite easily by importing the patches and naming them the same so they overwrite, yes?
