  1. Thanks to everyone who tuned into the stream last night! There were lots of you - viewer count has never been higher - and there were some amazing moments. Definitely worthy of a stream highlight supercut. The maps were a ton of fun, and I'm sure there's still plenty to come. I'll be finishing my playthrough of the entries on Wednesday's stream. Same time, same place. See you there!
  2. 7:01! That means TIME! Looking forward to playing all your submissions. Stream in an hour!
  3. Just 2 hours to go! I'm curious to see how many 2-hour speedmaps we can reel in. :)
  4. You have just under 4 hours left to submit - deadline is in the OP, complete with countdown link. Thanks for your submissions guys! I counted and we're up to 32. Might have to split the stream up!
  5. You have until the deadline, which is in about 19 hours from now.
  6. The contest ends in 25 hours! Get those maps in! So far I believe we have 17 submissions. :) Strictly speaking, my initial post says the contest ends at 6PM GMT. It still is, but daylight savings has occurred and pushed the clocks in the UK forward one hour, which complicates things a bit. The deadline won't be extended at all but I will be swapping to GMT+1 for all future times. Bottom line: I'll be closing proceedings at 7PM my time (GMT+1) and then going live on Twitch an hour afterwards, at 8PM GMT+1. See you there!
  7. Any variety of custom assets is permitted, skies being one of them. :)
  8. There are 30 hours remaining. That's plenty time for a map to be started and finished by whoever's reading this right now! Two things: - Placing your screenshots in spoilers will be very appreciated. I'm not super fussed if I know roughly what your map looks like beforehand, but I'd prefer to go into these maps completely unbiased, and oblivious to what awaits. :) - Can I re-stress the importance of filling in the OP's info template! It will ensure that I run your map correctly when I come to stream.
  9. Good eye. I'd made some corrections to it but must've forgotten to remove the old patch.
  10. In the post below the OP, I've compiled a short list of tropes found in early maps of mine that, while not exhaustive, gives an idea of what I was like back in the days of a bygone era, i.e. only just under 10 years ago before I knew fully what I was doing.
  11. Good thread. MtPain's content is a fave of mine right now. Also the "spider masterchef" is the best thing ever. Speaking of the SoD episode, did anyone notice the Dean neglect to censor a couple cuss words while talking about Poison Ivy II, his most hated map in the set? An editing oversight, or an expression of genuine, unfiltered ire? Either way it kinda makes me chuckle. :P
  12. You don't need to, just say in your submission info (template in the OP) to run it with jimmytex.wad and I'll do so when I come to stream it.
  13. Custom content of any variety is allowed so long as it fits the idea you're going for. :)
  14. Thanks for bringing this up, I had a feeling there was gonna be some problem with the resource I was missing. I've updated the WAD! (same link as before)
  15. Glossary of existing jimmytropes: These are things present in old (and some new!) maps of mine that have, I think rightfully, achieved meme status. Folks who've played at least one jimmymap have probably run into these things at some point, and in many cases they are fallbacks for lack of ideas. I'm not saying stuff these into your maps to make it look like a map I would've made in like 2011 or whatever before I was cool... but that's totally what I'm saying. "Jimmylights" Are you stuck for ideas on how to detail the ceiling of a room you just poured a loving amount of floor detail into? Step 1. Draw a square. Step 2. There is no step 2. That's the whole of the fucking jimmylight. Make sure to use the brown TLITE and METAL2 for the sides, or the red TLITE and COMPSPAN. Accept no substitutes. "Jimmyladders" If you want a significant sector height difference to present a hazard but reckon space is already at a premium and want to provide a means of escape that doesn't involve drawing an actual staircase or elevator, might I suggest effectively making a staircase but squeezing the steps together with the 1px grid, and slapping STEPLAD1 on them to give the vague appearance of an actual ladder? Fortify the sides with SUPPORT3 for good measure. Hey, if it's good enough for Plutonia Experiment MAP13, it's good enough for you. "Jimmyviles" Want one final, sudden spike of difficulty at the end of a map? Exhausted all other monster options? Kind of just want to spite some guy because several years ago you played a map he made that steamed you to an unfeasible degree with its archvile usage? Use a jimmyvile today! It's more less effective than you think. Always. Jimmysofas Nothing says solid comfort quite like a PAN sofa with REDWALL cushioning. I've used these exact sectors in at least three separate maps now. (Jenesis MAP13, MAP17, and Joy of Mapping 5's hub map.) The old "SUPPORT3 diamond pillar" These are all over the place in Jenesis, housing a key or some other important item and elevating them just enough to be out of reach but also visible from practically any location. Actually a somewhat useful thing! But their overbearing presence throughout Jenesis - and some of Jiffy Bag - still makes them a bit of a jimmymeme. Sometimes - only sometimes - I will dare to use SUPPORT2 instead of SUPPORT3. Daring today, aren't we!
  16. The contest is over and the maps have been played and judged. Here's a highlight reel showcasing the best moments! Video edited by @Biodegradable. Download 15 YEARS A DOOMER Contest Submissions (108MB) Many of these maps require Jimmytex to be loaded alongside them - this texture pack is also included. How do you do, fellow Doomers? 15 years is a long time to have spent in any one place, but I'd not trade the Doom community for any other. You guys are awesome. So... let's have a Mapping Contest. Deadline: 29th March 2021 6PM GMT. You have a week from now! https://itsalmo.st/jimmunity-project-deadline-z6ud All entries will be played on my Twitch stream on the 29th. Winner will get a prize of $100 USD. 2nd and 3rd place will receive $50. IWAD: Doom 2. Texture resource: Jimmytex Rules: 15 hours max build time limit for mapping. Single-player, 300 monster limit. Difficulty/co-op balancing won't be necessary. One single map per submission. Use any map format you like as long as it runs in GZDoom or Eternity! You're encouraged to: Make something in the style of an existing jimmymap! Make a fun reference, or outright emulate the tricks and traps I pull. Make a brand new MIDI track to go with your map, if you know how! If not, inclusion of a jimmidi will suffice! Include assets of your own like new monsters/weapons etc. providing they are appropriate for the idea you have. Have fun! Please don't: Cheat or steal. Map must be made uniquely for the contest. Map must be yours. Make something obnoxious/trolly/hateful/NSFW. These are gonna be streamed! Nothing submitted should violate the Twitch TOS. Include every possible custom thing off of Realm667. Show SOME restraint! Maps will be judged according to: Good layout flow, detail level, monster balance... the usual. Good use of the custom texture resource and tasteful use of any brand-new resources made. Innovation, if you've got a cool concept. My own subjective opinion of fun, ultimately. If you make me smile (or laugh!) that'll do the job! Post your submissions in this thread, or e-mail them to me with "Mapping Contest" somewhere in the subject line. The maps will be packaged up into a ZIP once the contest is over. Here's your submission template which I ask everybody to use so I can play the maps properly, and therefore judge them properly. Name: (Name of map) Map Format: (Doom, Boom, Hexen, UDMF) Ports Tested: (List all ports tested here) Build Time: (Number of hours spent) Textures: (List wads/credits here) External PWADs: (List any other PWADs required for loading) Requirements: (Jumping/crouching/freelook required/permitted, etc.) Have fun, guys! Really looking forward to seeing what results from this. :)
  17. There are browser plugins out there that let you completely disable comment sections outright. Use them. Feel better.
