  1. Yeah, I used the same method as id software back in 1993. I sculpted a model and took pictures of it in different poses and from multiple angles. I'm glad somebody remembers that wad. :D
  2. Yeah, the old weapons looked pretty bad so we decided to create new weapons and this time make them fit with the story of Scientist. The Soviet stuff looked really cool but it didn't add to the Scientist lore. Indeed the removed music was a licensing issue. Yeah, I think sci2023 is a more telling name. :) I just modified and re-re-uploaded it. I'll keep trying until it's accepted. <:D
  3. Thank you for letting me know. I made a new text file using the text maker and re-submitted the files. :) The submitted wad is now called Scientist 2023 / sci2023.wad
  4. Not sure what you mean. map 7-11 are still snowy. I appreciate your effort. <:D Not sure if there will ever be a scientist 3. The Unity version has new monsters, weapons, textures, artwork and some improved gameplay. I did submit the latest version to the archives, so it should be there at some point. :)
  5. It's me Roland, the author of Scientist.:) I used to post regularly on these forums in the early 2000. Does anyone still remember me? <:D Anyway my mod "Scientist" is now available as an official Doom/Doom II add-on. I've made a page on my website with some behind the scenes photo's and video's: https://spaceisgreen.com/scientist.php Let me know if you have any further questions!
  6. Definitely play the Unity version. It has new monsters, artwork and improved textures, weapons and gameplay.
  7. Hi everybody! It's me Roland, the author of Scientist.:) It's been a while since I last posted on these forum. I used to post here regularly in the early 2000. Does anyone still remember me? <:D I thought I'd check in with all of you after the Unity release of the mod. I released the first iteration to the idgames archives back in 2002. This wad was called Scientist (sci.wad) and contains 11 maps. https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/s-u/sci In 2005 I uploaded the second iteration called Scientist2 (sci2.wad) to the archives. It contains the same 11 maps plus 9 new maps. https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/megawads/sci2 Both wads were made to run with vanilla Doom2. The latest release is a polished and updated version of sci2.wad I've just submitted a new version called "sci-c.wad" to the archives. :) Thanks. :D I've made a page on my website with some behind the scenes photo's and video's: https://spaceisgreen.com/scientist.php Let me know if you have any further questions!
  8. The following is a quote from Rene Descartes (1596-1650), Meditations - Meditation II.
    Has this theory become obsolete?

"Take, for example, this piece of wax; it is quite fresh, having been but recently taken from the beehive; it has not yet lost the sweetness of the honey it contained; it still retains somewhat of the odor of the flowers from which it was gathered; its color, figure, size, are apparent ( to the sight ); it is hard, cold, easily handled; and sounds when struck upon with the finger. In fine, all that contributes to make a body as distinctly known as possible, is found in the one before us. But, while I am speaking, let it be placed near the fire--what remained of the taste exhales, the smell evaporates, the color changes, its figure is destroyed, its size increases, it becomes liquid, it grows hot, it can hardly be handled, and, although struck upon, it emits no sound.
Does the same wax still remain after this change?

It must be admitted that it does remain; no one doubts it, or judges otherwise. What, then, was it I knew with so much distinctness in the piece of wax? Assuredly, it could be nothing of all that I observed by means of the senses, since all the things that fell under taste, smell, sight, touch, and hearing are changed, and yet the same wax remains. It was perhaps what I now think, viz, that this wax was neither the sweetness of honey, the pleasant odor of flowers, the whiteness, the figure, nor the sound, but only a body that a little before appeared to me conspicuous under these forms, and which is now perceived under others.
[...] and that it is the mind alone which perceives it.

[...] and thus I comprehend, by the faculty of judgment alone which is in the mind, what I believed I saw with my eyes."
