  1. Welcome to Everything Under the Sun

This is my miscellaneous blog where I post anything that happens to have caught my attention recently, random thoughts, reviews and updates on my WIP stuff. I hope to start a development journal on a mod I'm working on at some point in the near future.

    Noir, a Doom Story:
Some of you may have seen screenshots from my black and white cel shaded mod. I hate to disappoint, but that project is officially dead. It was more of an experiment to see if it was possible to pull off the look effectively. Ultimately, the problem that caused me to stop work on it was the sheer amount of content I'd have to create to make it work. However, I have not abandoned the idea entirely, as I think that I can use that effect in other projects I'm working on (possibly as an 'alternate universe' effect or something like that)

    Help wanted?
I'm looking for some useful tutorials about using 3D modeling programs (gmax or blender in particular) and how to create/animate Quake 2 models using [insert name of good modeling program here]

My latest Crappy Chinese Made Mp3 Player:
I got a DINGOO A320 recently, and it is the best investment I have ever made. Here is what it looks like:

It has native emulator support for NES, SNES, Sega Megadrive/Genesis, Atari 2600, Neo Geo, Game Gear, Gameboy, Gameboy Color , Gameboy Advance, Commodore 64, Homebrew games, prBoom and Duke Nukem 3D. Also plays MP3, WMV, OGG, FLAC, etc. Does not require any file conversion to play videos,it can natively play AVI, WMA, DIVX, XVID, TIVO, etc. Has a built in radio, e-book reader, microphone, takes Mini SD cards for expanding storage, and it even has an A/V output to connect it to a television. Talk about being feature rich.

The Good: Emulation is great, no lag, good framerate, I can even pull of some delicate moves with good accuracy. The music quality is great, the Mp3 Settings are easy to use, looks beautiful on an HD TV when connected. The price was only 69.00 bucks, so definitely a worthy investment. Battery life is ~ 8-10 hours.

The Bad: Like any other cheap chinese mp3 player, it suffers from really bad english, making some of the menu options hilarious (doom is in my 'The interesting 3d game' folder.) Doom wads cause signicant lag (this is mainly my fault to assume the DVII would run on this.) And the customization is a pain in the ass. Also, there is no volume switch, which means that volume has to be changed through a certain menu option. Does not tell you how charged the battery is while its charging, and charging typically takes a few hours, but that's a really a minor gripe.

Coffee is really a too broad topic to sum up in one paragraph. Just the way of brewing it results in totally different drinks with different qualities: e.g. filter or instant coffee is usually nothing but an insipid gut-shrapnel, and for me drinking even two sips out of a big cup of that abomination will cause me to fibrillate and send me straight to the throne where I'll put the AVGN's diarrhea dumps to shame.

OTOH, Espresso coffee, if properly made, is like having a little Xmas each time you prepare one (Espresso is by far the best way to brew coffee, at least for what regards striking a balance between caffeine content and taste. Filter, instant and frappe are too watered down to taste good, plus they have MORE caffeine per serving than espresso and are nasty on the bowels. Greek/turkish coffee is prepared with entirely differently ground coffee and tastes very different than both. Not particularly stimulant, but at least not as bad on the guts.

The only drawback to espresso is that you need a special machine to make it at home, and most of them are expensive and/or use very expensive coffee pods (even though LIDL already took care of that with a machine that is so awesome and cheap that it stomps on the colons of other espresso machines). I've yet to find an espresso machine for the home that can produce bar-quality coffee, though (I guess those $1000+ ones do but heh...I don't have that much money to burn).

The next best thing is "Moka" coffee, using that hex-shaped screw-top pot. The pots themselves are very cheap, even top-quality ones, can make up to 6 or even 12 cups of near-espresso coffee at once. The final result is similar to espresso, but not quite as good.

Heh, I liked eight-legged freaks too. The reasoning behind apocalyptic movies is usual stupid to me, only a few like armageddon, and I guess you could call independence day apocalyptic, were ok, to good. The day after tomorrow ... wasn't bad, but not even quite as good as armageddon.

ARMAGEDDON WAS THE BIGGEST PIECE OF SHIT IN ALL EXISTANCE.

Heh, there's a list like that for Washington. In fact, I think there's one for every state. They all have the one about jumper cables, oddly enough (which is true here).
