Old as dirt but it still plays pretty good. Works well with alt-monsters (Strain etc.)

    Hell Ground

Just watched a demo on youtube, man that's freakin' awesome mapmaking. Epic meets Silures on really great drugs. :) Like someone upstream, I wish I could play it, but I can't do OpenGL. :( 5/5 just for making me drool.

    NJ Doom2

I still drag these out and play them occasionally. Old as dirt but they've held up really well. The Long Run was the first of its kind. NJ maps remain among my long-term favorites.
Despite the 800 SS Nazis, Map32 was my favorite, with its nifty retro look and feel, and gods help you if you get caught behind enemy lines; made a little too easy by too many places they can't get into. -- Otherwise a decent enough WAD, its main downfall being some maps with fatal errors (someone else mentioned the reason for this). -- There seem to be a LOT of DoomBuilder maps with fatal errors if you use anything but [ick] ZDoom...
Old fashioned and sometimes not much to look at (tho its appearance improves considerably after the first map), but decent enough gameplay. Some areas that seem easy can kill you quick. Map16 was my fave (watch your back).
These are among my favorites of the early maps. They were interesting to look at, satisfying to puzzle out, and had very good replay value (and they are even better with D2 and various alt-monsters). They might seem dated today, but in their time they were innovative maps.
Often looks ugly, but has very good gameplay.
Pretty good tho not among my favorites. For others who dislike ZDoom, all but a couple of the last maps will work with BOOM-compatible ports.

    Fragport

Looks average to good, plays very well, holds up well for repeat play and alt-monsters. I did need to rebuild it to get it to run, tho.
You'd think it would be boring, but it proved strangely addictive, more so as it progressed and you know you're going to get hammered harder each time. Worth a look if you're in the mood for tactical slaughter.

    rz.wad, lost.wad

LOST.WAD is my very favorite slaughter map (yep, theraputic). Every sort of ugly, lots of stuck monsters and bad-teleport bugs, but also tricky in all the right ways and never a dull moment. Largely non-linear on both sides the first keyed door. 'Safe' spots all have ways to get you. Tons of supplies but you can still find yourself scrambling. Can be played for infighting strategy, too. Great with STRAIN monsters! RZ.WAD: even uglier, more linear, but almost as fun if you're in the mood.
