  1. this thread is making me re-live this nightmare (4:30)
  2. Played through on skill 1 (after getting absolutely melted at the start on UV lol) Very neat little map I enjoyed it quite a bit! If i see the next one go up on the server when you post it i might give the FDA contest a shot
  3. really neat so far. Idk where this horse is from but i can't stop staring at both it and the surrounding room. edit: omg the little hexen pigs running around in the vacation spot ♥
  4. E2M2 Tyson in 21:44 b2g2t2144.zip video: https://youtu.be/KZ-cGgyiAgk
  5. the memory of KINDa popped into my head today and i searched up your name to see if you'd posted anything else and YES
  6. I had literal help as i played through it co-op with my dad multiple times in the 90s when i was like 7. Obviously he carried me through the game but also the puzzles are easier to figure out with two people searching. That and my dad and uncle were always good at figuring out puzzles in PC games. I'm pretty sure we never owned Deathkings, playing through it as an adult it doesn't seem familiar. But we played Hexen 2 a lot when that came out Playing through the games as an adult i don't have the patience to figure out puzzles so i just look them up lol
  7. somehow managed to do this on beginning of MAP15 (IDDT map spoiler enclosed) demo here
  8. Also I just finished through MAP05 and this is a ton of fun so far! I might put up another video once i finish goth episode
  9. after 50 or so attempts i finished map01! i read your reply to Catpho which helped a lot here is a zip of all the demos made in the process, including a possible linedef skip issue detailed below
  10. Don't make me choose! They all made maps I liked and ones I disliked. I'd want to say Romero, Sandy, and Tom for Doom 1, but also McGee for some good Doom2 maps. Shawn Green didn't make enough maps for me to add him but I think E4M8 and Bloodfalls are underrated Anyway this list by valkiriforce should help as a refresher
  11. I haven't finished the video did he say it upset him? There was literally a video years ago showing he plays on Doomsday with filtering. I have a feeling he's been working in games a long time and knows how to operate a video game menu if it bothers him.
  12. 2005 is the one all of us played back in the 360 days. Very good game and I agree with Nevander in recommending it if we're talking about the same one. I have not played 2012 but from what I know it's not nearly as fondly remembered as 2005 is
  13. "Getting good" is one of many available avenues to enjoy in any game. It's really fun! But it's not a requirement and sure as fuck isn't any sort of virtue. "im a scrub, i need to get better at [game], i only won because of luck" etc. Yes I know that stuff is often said in jest but I think it's often just using humor to cover up self-loathing If you want to chill and easily blast through everything, do that. If you want to practice a map that's difficult for you, do that. Neither is objectively better than the other, and neither one is a "deeper" or more valid way to consume media. No wad is too hard or too easy for you. I hate when people say "I will never play [x]" when there is no real reason not to at least try if you have the interest. Adjustments can be made and you will get better at the game over time, no matter how long you've been at it. If it's too easy for you, rd's post has a ton of great ways to better enjoy something you consider beneath you Are there pre-requisites that make it easier to make popular maps? Sure. It absolutely helps to better understand the medium as it helps you in the act of creation. You should absolutely play more Doom maps if you are into making doom maps. But pigeon-holing your imagination to only what you think top doom players would enjoy stifles creativity. doom players, just like any group, aren't a monolith, and enjoy different things. There are certainly bandwagons of what people think are 'good' in the moment. But with so many tools available, and such an expansive modding scene, there's a million ways to enjoy any work, and people will find a way to enjoy your map
  14. Nothing jumped out as being off in your .cfg file. I even tried loading it into a newly downloaded Crispy Doom and got a consistent 141 FPS I'd try moving your .cfg file to another folder so that Crispy Doom makes a new one. Then load up Crispy Doom, set your FPS to unlimited in the options, and see if you still have the same issue. If you do, try loading up a different game and see if you have the same framerate issue there as well.
  15. maybe just post entire config file here (make a new post with a "code" section and paste in there, or just upload whole file) edit: also have you changed anything in your graphics card settings (e.g. NVidia control panel) lately?
  16. I'm guessing you tried these maybe on a limb try Doomsday release to see if it works under rosetta edit: oh AceiusIO said GZDoom has a M1 release. I'd just use that
  17. If i'm already in GZDoom, might as well turn on all the fancy brightmaps and whatnot, so hardware for me. I've still yet to pick a favorite lighting mode. I used to hate the look of hardware lighting and such but i've grown nostalgic for it. I thought GLBoom's renderer/light mode was good and I even turn on texture filtering at times. Fight me
  18. My dumb ass thought people were going on about some 90s wad until recently lmao Anyway I played it the other day, believe the hype, etc. Incredible stuff. It's probably been discussed, but if i heard correctly it seems perkristian's smooth weapons were used but Power Pak said they were from Smooth Doom? Poor perkristian gets no credit ever since Smooth Doom came out 😞
  19. As NotJabba said, I'm glad this thread exists; I hope someday Doom wad archaeologists can point to this moment in time as an inflection point of doomtubers and their maxing habits and how it influenced a generation of mappers to either accommodate them or piss them off. As RonnieJamesDiner said, this is really just a re-heated UV or bust debate. Or the saves debate. Or the pistol start debate. No one can control the conditions under which their art is consumed. Maybe the best movie of all time comes out and on that day everyone gets a toothache and gets dumped and it doesn't get the appreciation it deserves. (the script for my video essay on the 1990 DuckTales movie is leaking) You can't account for that! You can try though and sometimes that is art in itself. There's no right answer and that's why these discussions are fun. Some more thoughts that probably were said better by previous posts: like several things in prboom/dsda-doom, that HUD was there to facilitate (UV-max🤮) speedrunners was it not? Then a general audience got in there and it affected the way they played. Suddenly everyone is an expert and knows how things are "supposed" to run around here, and the "right" way to play the game. Maybe now the meta shifts and everyone turns off their extended HUD? (not me though, i cbf looking for secrets and a full row of zeroes above the status bar won't change that 🤷‍♀️) Our life is finite. Some imagine themselves on their deathbed fretting about never finding that one secret in Valiant map 3 or whatever. Meanwhile i think of the 3 wads you could have played in the time it took you to comb over a single level! Neither way is correct, some people are just really into the act of exploration (i think it's just a fad). Getting negative feedback on something you create just plain sucks, there's no getting around it. It's natural to want to please everyone to avoid it, but there will never be an agreed upon standard to accomplish this. Just keep making more stuff, or take a break, and eventually you'll decide for yourself which criticisms you wish to address. Discussions like this one are part of that process and I love to see them, even though no objective "truth" can come out of them.
  20. this was the year i finally got into those there souls games. Most of the time playing was on PlayStation, but I got the games on PC for modding/cheating/practicing Sekiro has become one of my favorite games ever
  21. If you've played all those then yeah, i'd just start reading Caocwards until something sounds interesting
  22. not to dig up a year old discussion, but I do like the voice lines, they remind me of the ones in Forsaken Anyway, always great to see more being done for this, just keeps looking better!
  23. Which wads have you played? Do you have a certain type you enjoy? Have you played Eviternity, Ancient Aliens, Sunlust, etc. (just some popular ones off the top of my head) here's a good list that's sorted by difficulty if you know what you want in that regard The Cacowards are a good resource definitely, though I definitely understand it being daunting having so many projects listed. If you haven't played Scythe 2, it's definitely worth a try. If you have and you're wondering if you should play it again because people did so in the past, I agree with others that unless you just want to play it again, there's no need to keep playing it.
