  1. I think you're missing the point here. Imagine the opposite scenario. You stumble across a wad on the archive or a DW thread and over the years you forget the name of it (and you've swapped computers and lost track of your old hard drive) We have a whole thread dedicated to this. And if you got that wad from /idgames it is still in /idgames. And in the multiple mirrors and among the many backups individual people have made over the years. Ideally the work someone puts into even the most obscure wad would be preserved for as long as possible. That's why the archive is so special
  2. This is awful news, I am sorry for your loss. Rest in peace. I also agree, please post the fundme link.
  3. Pretty standard keybinds: WASD, Space is Use, Right Click is Strafe On I used to use Q and X for SR50 until I learned that Q and E were the standard. I switched to the standard Q&E since dsda-doom's default keybinds are there and it's one less key to re-bind Back when I didn't have a numpad I used P, L, & M for changing game speed, but now I have numpad keys I use R for either quickloading/rewind or restarting demo attempt, depending on what i'm doing edit: as a side note, I measured my cm/360 a while back and it seems to be about 12.5 A try-hard gamer guy I knew (who never played classic Doom) joked on me for how high it was
  4. Yeah it's Settings > Active Memberships. I agree it's weird and this kind of thing makes me want to shake my old man cane at the designers of the modern web. I think the main difference is that page doesn't have traditional tiers which is normally how you change your pledge. But the ability to change to a non-"tier"-amount of contribution a la Kickstarter doesn't seem to be there. In any case, good to see the ability to support the site Since you seem to have found the answer i'll also go a tad bit off topic and say I have a similar annoyance with Discord. Unless i'm mistaken the only way to see number of members in a channel is to get an invite link and paste it into incognito (and depending on the browser it might just force you into the app anyway)
  5. bind [key] "openmenu mainmenu" seems to work
  6. I am guessing that is Bangladeshi Taka? All I can do is plug those into the google currency converter, 219500 seems to be $2338.96 USD Best Buy over here seems to be offering that laptop with a Ryzen 9 for $1,649.99 USD which seems to be 154843.73 BDT link maybe it's a different model but it seemed to be the same except Ryzen 9 instead of 7 I think ASUS comes out with good laptops usually but I am no expert on gaming laptops at all. There's usually so much variance on how manufacturers assemble their components it seems all you can do most of the time is try to find a bunch of reviews for each specific one, or just kind of go in blind with a decent brand like ASUS and hope returns/customer service is good. Also as a side note if you're running Half Life Alyx or any other demanding VR title on a laptop, be prepared for it to get really hot. Though there might be a way to underclock things to prevent that as Alyx seems to be good at ramping down on its own when performance issues arise.
  7. I mean for accessibility we can send files over Google Drive, Dropbox, Discord etc. Most of which have non-browser interfaces. I think maybe the use case sort of "leapt over" the solution you're proposing. I don't think many websites/apps are still using FTP for content delivery either.
  8. I mean in Windows Explorer you can literally put ftp:// in the address bar to connect to a simple FTP server For Linux I know in Red Hat's file explorer in GNOME you can just click 'connect to server' from the options bar to connect to FTP or even other protocols if i remember correctly. I would presume it's just as easy in most distros but i'm not 100% sure on that. And maybe it's just as easy to do HTTP stuff in the same way, but i'd venture to guess most people don't know about that, and as Goat-Avenger said, for most people it's a 'ain't broke why fix it?' moment unless there's specific needs for security or other features. edit: also re-reading your argument, i assumed you are on Linux but maybe that's not the case. If you are, you can just do wget or curl, right? Also i think these work on Mac as well, if maybe you need to install a small utility These would let you do your HTTP stuff without the browser, but again I'm probably totally mis-reading your argument
  9. Completely forgot felling trees is the only wood-cutting scenario that exists. i guess it makes sense that they don't make axes anymore. i agree that for anything that would require some security that scp or something is a much better choice. But for plopping files from one place to another on your home network a 'chainsaw' hardly seems practical. As for your comments on HTTP, do you know of a way to easily make a file available as an endpoint on say a Windows machine, that's easier than a quick Filezilla Server install? I mean that as an honest question as I don't know. I can't tell if you're working on something or addressing some problem or just picking a weird fight.
  10. whoa ur still posting hello eargo

  11. Yeah I don't think you're being unreasonable or anything, but I think opening your perspective a bit from being focused on what's "perfect" can lead to creating something brand new that people find valuable. Also I'm sure you already heard about the Mona Lisa not getting the status it has now until it was stolen which got worldwide media attention. Anyway, since a lot of the thread is talking about our own perfect theoretical wad I think it would be something like Cyberdreams, taking the intimate one-on-one challenge scenarios and maybe pairing it with some well crafted custom monsters
  12. I can't manage to come up with anything other than cliches about 'atmosphere' and 'sense of place'. It just sort of grabbed me and I had to know what else was in this crumbly pyramid. I didn't play it until almost a decade after it came out. But at that time I hadn't come across anything like it. The music is of course fantastic but I think it's far from the only factor. To me Alien Vendetta is like the Beatles. The height of their popularity is long gone but for decades after and even today, people hear the songs for the first time and become music fans and musicians. If it's not the Beatles themselves it's a band who was highly influenced by them. Everyone else who doesn't have that experience doesn't get it and thus come the cries of "overrated". Which are somewhat justified but there's still some impalpable quality that still appeals to many people
  13. What will you do when you find the perfect map? Stop playing maps? Only play that map for all eternity? I know the above reply sounds like i'm being a smartass but this is legit what it feels like, that you believe there is a standard everyone is chasing, and once we get there all art will have to be carbon copies of that thing, as it is 'perfect' A lot of people, when reminded that all taste is subjective, retort by saying "yeah but it's common sense, you have to admit [thing most people like/respect] is better than [thing most people don't like/respect]" You can chase trends or you can try to take risks and break all the rules. Neither is right or wrong, and most go for a mix of both. There could be a time where a piece of art perfectly aligns with the tastes of everyone and is considered 'perfect'. However, unless the human desire for novelty works its way out of our DNA someday this won't be regarded as 'perfect' forever.
  14. Several of your maps frustrated the shit out of me but they were incredibly unique, and places from KINDa still pop up in my head sometimes. I seriously hope we get more maps from you if you're up to it.
  15. All great suggestions in this thread but to me this is the most important. No keybinding menu will ever be as convenient as typing a quick command in the console The quicksave in dsda-doom has gotten so much better but the last bit missing is being able to type "bind f quicksave" One I've grown fond of from zdoom is "sv_unlimited_pickup". I think in general being able to mess with max ammo/health/etc ingame would be great, but of course I think not as important as the other stuff already mentioned
  16. Definitely thought this. Also thought Antaresian Legacy and Antaresian Reliquary were the same until i saw MtPain's video and was very confused. sorry antares
  17. You probably already know this but there's a ZDoom mod that autosaves after a set amount of time, after beating strong enemies, etc Something i've done a bit in the past is using that wad's autosaves only, not using any of my own, as my way of replicating what you're talking about here edit: added link
  18. can't get ripped without ab use i always say dsda-doom's rewind feature finally closed the gap, giving you the full choice between "save never" and "save always" The near-complete freedom you get in a lot of PC gaming is a blessing and a curse. I do find playing on console from time to time refreshing for that reason. I have in the past heard people claim you can't get good while using saves. Which is nonsense unless you want to be the best at the 1st encounter of every map. I think there was an old NiH post about using saves to pinpoint and practice your weaknesses in certain encounters that I found insightful In the end of course it's a wash. I wore out the save key in Sunlust and had a hell of a time. I've also found playing some maps saveless to be exhilarating. I think 'gitting gud' at video games is highly overrated, while at the same time watching someone like decino slowly get better over time and seeing their methods makes me want to try it myself
  19. Picking on carnevil was a national pastime back then. There was a whole comic series about him that I now struggle to find. Carn seemed to take it in stride back then but I wasn't privy to whatever was going on in the ST forums anyway give Wrack a try if you haven't
  20. Congrats on the release IRod! look forward to playing it. Could you put the idgames link in the op to replace the mediafire link? edit: thank you!
  21. Idk why 100% kills only wasn't an option.
  22. From the OP it sounds like something most people can relate to. Like an album you really enjoy, but as you repeat it over and over again there's certain tracks you skip, until it's just your favorite song on repeat, and then eventually you just have to take a break from it. The parts you don't like as much feel like BS and you are less willing to go through them. For Doom and other games, in my case instead of searching out maps that give a perfect experience, I just play around with cheats or mods or something. But in the end, if you start feeling this way sometimes you just gotta walk away for a few months.
