  1. The Marina

I had two ideas in mind when I made this... First, I wanted to build a level around a concept. After playing Avatar's DM wads, I decided this was essential to it's success. Second of all, I wanted to try and make a level where you can walk onto water end end up underwater. And so it is. The underwater areas look really cool, and if you step off any surface into water, you'll end up there. Like wise, walk towards the shore and you'll end up on dry land.

  2. NETWORK, a cerebral Doom ][ Deathmatch Level

The newest DOOM level from the Bentworld group. Suitable only for Deathmatch hunts between 2 players. We STRONGLY recommend -altdeath -deathmatch -respawn. A long BULLDOG style corridor. The end rooms are stacked with just enough respawning items. A cross corridor with pits becomes the confrontation zone. Very playable. No Exit.

  3. Mike's version of HOBOKEN

Have you downloaded Hoboken and seen many things wrong with it, such as the "door to nowhere". Yeah, the thing that faces west/east into the blue room. The author also seemed to have an obsession with the wall texture BSTONE1. ANyway, I fixed everything and this looks quite professional.

By the way. I'd like to tell Mark Cooke to CREDIT ME next time he makes a WAD because I know he took a couple of sounds from HOUSES last time.

  5. No Second Chances

Altdeath level for Doom 2. This is quite a simple level. It has 2 reasonably large open areas, several teleports (Mic's influence), *lots* of stairs (Kim's influence), blue & green armour, both types of shotgun, chaingun & rocket launcher. (Yes, the energy cell is in there on purpose...) Getting each item in this level entails some degree of risk (the actual level of risk is dependant upon the intelligence of each player) but they are all easy enough to get as long as you don't get *too* greedy. N.B. Kim has more *excellent* levels in the pipeline, so watch out for them!

  7. The Forgotten Abbey - Part 5 of the Frag Fest!

Welcome back! I made this level not long after completing my Dark Towen level, because people wanted something that was small and easy...

Those of you that have played Dark Towen will recognise the old bullet proof glass trick - This time to make raisable shields round the perimeter of the level... Very interesting indeed...

The setting is within a ancient abbey whose only inhabitants are the denizens of Hell that have inhabited the area. Those of you in co-operative will have a shock, as there is no actual way out of the abbey, unlucky.

One potential problem that I had to face when making the level was the potential for spaced out frags - Too much chasing around. This is why I added the BFG (people who have the BFG system sussed will have a field day), and there is a great potential for suprise tele-ambushes and tele-frags :-)

  8. Arena "Shards" - Part 7 of the Frag Fest!

Well those of you that had a sneak peek before reading this, and had played MAT-ARNA will notice that the two were almost indentical. Let me explain...

MAT-ARNA is still by popular opinion the best level that I have ever done, yet it was my first level. So I changed the odd texture, added a BFG and a Megasphere, and most importantly sorted out the switch bug that meant that sometimes the game went mental if you played around with the switches too much :-\

So here it is, as part of the Frag Fest series, and it's lost none of it's playability along the way... Enjoy.

  9. DIAMORTAL! - Frag Fest 3

This level basically consists of one patch of grass, enclosed with crates, with numerous weapons lying around. A lot of work has gone into making sure that this level is totally balanced, and the number and placing of the weapons has been critical. One main point was whether to have the BFG in the level, and eventually I decided it would disrupt the style of play too much, so I left it in... But unattainable! :)

This level was designed for lots of fast frags, and that's exactly what you get! It can get very disorientating when you're running helter skelter away from a plasma weilding opponent...

  10. Sharonian Temple - Frag Fest 2

This is a simple but effective deathmatch wad (it's rare indeed that I see a brilliant and big deathmatch level!), both aesthetically pleasing and very playable. Many an opponent has fell prey to this level by fragging himself with the rocket launcher :-)

  11. Cave Hunt - Frag Fest I

Frag Fest 1 is a deathmatch level, simple in design, but has proven to be very effective to play. Most of the ammo and the megasphere is in the middle, in a depression, and in the caves outside all the weapons are laid strewn about, so you can't move very far without finding a weapon! Fast and furious.

  12. Nomen Luni - Part 6 of the Frag Fest series!

I was promising something special for Frag Fest 6, and here you have it. Not quite what it started out as, but after playing GIGAKIL2 by Stealth (respect due, some amazing levels...) I was duely inpired by his ISLEKEEP level, and created this, totally unlike it, except for the sea-side idea.

I created the central area with the stairs leading down, and then as ideas and inspiration flowed I just joined pieces onto here and there, until this is what I came up with.

It's had some serious playtesting, as always, and one of the most important things that came out was the need for the circle back from the secret bit in the library area...

Anyway, play it, and as always, give me feed back...

  13. Dark Towen WAD - Part 4 in the Frag Fest series!

This level started life several weeks ago, after I'd jotted a few ideas down on paper (the acid room idea and the crossroad/ walkway just beyond it), and in the true Matthew Mauger tradition, it just grew from there.

Steven Ross-Watt of Genesis BBS (01786-825368) suggested the idea of the "control room" section, where squares light up when people move into certain rooms on the map. I made it go one stage further - you can dive into the squares, and teleport right next to your opponent! Oh course, if people linger in that area, there are some switches not far away that open up some walls, and whoever is in the control room gets roasted by archviles >:-)

I discovered how to make "bullet proof glass", sections of the map that you can see through but can't shoot through - this is used at the exit, and in the room with the light switches. A similar technique is used in the outside area to slam down a invisible barrier across one particular section, have a gander...

Anyway, this is a wicked deathmatch level, with totally class textures (as always) - check it out, and watch out for those secret bitz!

  14. TheMATCH

Totally original. Very open, one center tower with the plasma rifle inside, good spot to play hide & seek. In the four corners are three different things. In two of them there are three stairways that lead to a small platform with health/armor/ weapons... One other corner has a dark bunker w/ the super shotgun, and the other corner has a tower, intended o be an ammo/health tower. A really fast level.

  18. My version of Santa Rosa Assault

If you've ever played the original SRA, you probably know how slow it runs, how you can shoot through walls, bump into hanging keens, look at misalignment, etc, etc... Anyway, this wad is an improvement of the original. It runs faster, has solid walls that you can't shoot through, and other things. This will be in Houses 1.3 soon.

  19. The Manor Of Pleasure

Hey, you didn't fought it was possible ? But it is. Do you need some recreation ? Here it is. The Manor Of Pleasure has been brought to you as a strange kind of training. Quite many pretty girls are waiting for you, and sometimes some of them may call you for a kiss. Don't disappoint them, try to stay alive and kill all your enemies to win their gratitude and thanks. But, do not think that this mission will be easy to complete, enemies are rather powerfull and numerous, they will not leave you a second to take your breath.

  21. Newton North High School for DOOM ][ Deathmatch

NNHS is the main hallway, gym, and back corridors of Newton North High School. I started making just to make fun of the school, (which is always nice), but then I read Brian Kidby's deathmatch "FAQ." It said that the best Deathmatch levels can have long hallways, open areas, and twisty mazes. NNHS has all. The main hall is called Main Street. The gym is also pretty open, and the science corridors are nice 'n twisty. NNHS may be a bit big for deathmatch, but it's still fun. ^^^

    Try it anyway. Please? :-}

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
