  2. Higher (latest)

The best thing about these levels is they're fairly straight-forward. That is there's no find the key, spend 20 minutes looking for where to use it, 20 seconds of death-dealing, find a secret switch and so on. That's not to say that this kind of level doesn't have its place, it does, but i don't design that. I've had enough of that from DOOM II. These levels (i think) are original. I haven't really played anything like them. Anyway, please see what you think, and let me know. NOTE: The above email address is mine only until the end of '95.

    ------- P L O T -------

OK. You were one of the unlucky ones, you weren't killed. Trying to rid that sector of Caco- demons was useless, and you knew it. Command HQ knew better and sent you in at the head of a bunch of inexperienced soldiers, most of them useless. All are dead. Except one who was captured. You.

They've got you bricked up in a small room. You thought you had an idea why. After you found the pistol there you knew why. Rumors had infiltrated back to base that the Cacodemons liked to play soldier bating with any captured soldiers. You know what's in store.

A feeling wells up in your gut you know to be fear. You look at the tiny weapon in your hand and groan. You'll be lucky to take out one. All is lost. You wait for death.

Visions of those red bastards killing killing killing roar through your mind, slowly enraging you to accept the inevitable. Surfacing through these thoughts of death, however, is another thought, revenge. Not with a pistol. You'd walk through hell for a shotgun. Maybe you will...

NOTE:- Level 3 is a bit more unprofessional than the rest. It originally was a DOOM level. It's good however. SO PLAY IT!! Play them all. You'll feel better.

HINTS:- (1) Play at least skill 3 (2) DON'T CHEAT!!!! (3) There is no third hint (4) Or fourth

  4. Big Wad. (igotabig.wad)

New map for DOOM II : This level has been specifically designed for deathmatch(but one player to figure the level out). A lot of secrets(especially doors). A few monsters to make it more interesting. There's a big outdoor room to fight in with windows to shoot out of all around. Not too big and just the right amount of ammo to kill. If you find any mistakes e-mail me, this is my first post so tell me what you think! ^^^^^

  6. GAOL.WAD

A well laid out single / multiplayer level for DOOM][, with loads of passages, dudes, etc. Set in a gaol (Jail in Yank) style building with extra attention paid to textures, alignment and other small details missed out in many other levels. A good time for triple 100% is about 10 minutes.

  7. GRATES.WAD (MAP02 PWAD For DOOM II)

Great deathmatch level on higher skill settings, I tried to line the grates (manholes) up, so if you get lost, look at your map. Some weapons are easy to get to, others will take some time.So if you let bad dudes out before you get them, you'll be in for some nasty shoot and run tactics... Unless your the, come and get it sort. In that case you'll get fried and your buddys will frag you to death. Anyway hope you enjoy the level... If you like these maps, keep your eyes open MAP03 is coming soon.

  8. Twisting Halls

This is my first DOOM2 PWAD. Open areas and twisting passages abound. A grand hall filled with all your favorite demons. Something strange, and a secret or two. Had a heck of time finishing it, DEU would reach its memory limit and crash repeatedly. So...I used the old gcc 32 bit DEU 5.2 then went back and insert DOOM2 onjects and textures. Not going to DEU it anymore...

  9. More Twisting Halls

This is another level featuring a large hall. Of course there's lotsa neat stuff to get there. Also, this is the second level I sketched on paper before building. The first was ying1.wad, check it out. Built most of the level with DEU2 hack for doom2. Furnished it with DCK 2.0

Like my first wad (eyestorm) this one has some extra stuff for deathmatch- secret passages, teleport, extra weapons and such.

  12. GUARDIAN

I WANTED THIS LEVEL TO BE SOMETHING ELSE. IT STARTED OUT THAT WAY, BUT BEFORE LONG (with only a tiny portion of the level built) I BEGAN TO RUN OUT OF MEMORY. I COULDN'T EVEN CREATE HALF OF WHAT WAS IN STALL FOR YOU GUYS. ONLY A SEVERE BOOT DISK GAVE ME THE MEMORY I NEEDED FOR A FINAL AREA. SORRY DOOMERS, I WANTED MUCH MORE.

  14. HIPPIE1B.WAD

(| Same as HIPPIE1.WAD, but converted for Doom ][ |)

A few big rooms, a few small rooms, and some tunnels. Lots of wide open spaces, and some good ambush-points. I'd like to see it for team play.

Basically, this wad was created while showing a friend how to use DEU. I think it makes a dandy Deathmatch wad, although it's only been tested with two players. At the hardest level, it's got two cyberdemons. The middle levels have a cacodemon or two and a spiderdemon. The easisiest level is best for using `-respawn', as it only has one imp, some troopers, and some sergents.

Weapon-wise, it's got one of each weapon, except the chainsaw. The BFG is stuck on a small ledge behind a cyberdemon, so it's not all that accessable... I've heard that big monsters and BFGs only ruin a level, but I feel that this one works.

  15. INVSIEGE.WAD

A spin-off from the Invasion Series...

Ever wonder what happened to the Anchorpoint Mars Base? This level puts you in the shoes of Echo 1 Relay Station's Commander. You are in charge of supervising the raising and lowering of the shield which protects Mars Base.

Time: Before the events in Invade 1 took place. Place: Echo 1 Relay Station.

You are about to face your toughest challenge. An alien ship has just entered orbit around Mars. Only the shield prevents the Hulk from laying waste to the entire planet.

However, the ship has released landing pods that bypassed the shields. The pods will attempt to take over each of the four Stations maintaining shield integrity. As Commander of Echo 1 Relay Station, you must stop this from happening at all costs.

    The siege is on.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
