  4. Nostalgy: Trip down my memory lane

This is a remake of a map that I had originally created sometime in 99-02. Back then this used to be one of my favourite maps, and a while ago I found myself wanting to play it again. However I had lost the map in a HD crash a while ago, so I had to remake it based on what I remembered of the map. The detail level is mostly low since the original map was very low in detail as well and the map themes are all over the place.

There are three different "game modes": HMP is mostly similar to the original map I had made, UV is a HR version of the original and ITYTD/HNTR item placement is in HR style done by Maes before he was shown the original item placement. So this is essentially a "three-in-one" experience.

  6. Mall of Mayhem

The first of my *completed* abominations released to the public. Was supposed to be a Halloween special, but I find election days MUCH more scarier...

    Story:

Just as you where about to take your much deserved vacation, you receive a distress call from UAC, another alien invasion, hmm... You can barely make out what the operator is saying, so you press your finger against your earpiece, hoping to at least capture some of what he's saying. The man's voice sounds a bit frantic. You reminisce on the last alien invasion and wonder why this guy is so worried. Until you hear that this time, the aliens have invaded the local mall. Several civilians are killed. Well, you're always cleaning up peoples mess, so you might as well clean this one up...

Ending: This is DOOM, but hey, let's provide an ending story:

Upon discovering the portal that the inhabitants of hell used to invade the local mall, you decide to seal it off. You can only hold these demons back for so long. Plus, backup should've arrived by now. As you wait for what seems like an eternity, you decide that it's time to take matters into your own hands. You reach for your lucky grenade and toss it into the portal, destroying it. Hopefully that should do it. Now, as for the employees responsible for this carnage that damn near cost you your life, well, they are in hell, they wanted it that way anyway. But from now on, you decide that you will begin a boycott against that particular shop.

  7. Map set #1

This is my first mapset for doom2. I have just started to learn doom builder and i know these levels isn't much to look at but i tried to make them fun and challening and i tried fixing as many bugs i could find so i hope there's none left but im not 100% sure.

    The maps:

map 01: the lost base: A typical tech base level in the style of doom2 map01 and lightly inspired from doom1. It's supposed to be short and easy since its the first level.

map 02: Halls of darkness. The second level is a little bit harder and is mostly tech base style but has an outside area and a toxic waste area to add more styles.

map03: Blood temple This one got more of a hellish theme and is much harder then map1 and 2 and also much bigger.

All of the maps are set to be played individually if one choses, same as doom2 maps so theres enough weapons and ammo in every map to get you trough. I also tried to implent difficulty settings but the maps are best played on UV since thats what they are designed for.

I like hard maps, and this should be. If you're able to beat it without savegames, you're one of my buddies. An advice: look for a place to hide in, and be careful where you move and what weapon you take. Good luck, and I hope you enjoy the map!

  11. Claustral

a map limited to a 1024x1024 square (some geometry extend beyond this boundairy, but the player and all gameplay happen within this area). this map was made when the 1024 contests and community projects were just starting to get popular. Never released until now. Its a short, claustrophobic castle map with lots of brown bricks and metal (my favorite stock textures!).

  16. Nightrain

African mines have suppilied the world with well needed meteials since the begining of time. Most are now owned buy American buissness men, who like to live on cheep land. Some have locals work and some have Americans come over. One such mine has been the site of strange events lately. Fist, most of the workers dissapered, and when they were found they knew nothing of where they had gone. As if that wasn't wierd enough. all of the machines stoped working. When they went to repair them is when it got realy strange. They found all kind of dead bodies from animals and even humans. Most were fairly rooted, but some were still twitching. So a goup of men were sent down with the best wepons they had(pistol, shotgun, and rocket launcher), and a backpack. The first group all were killed except one who went back by himself.

A futurist base with a lot of brown and gray tex- tures. I tried to build a pretty and detailed map, within the limits of the original Doom II -this was a requisite of the 6th Cabro's Map Tournament-, and with the action of the classics... A lot of cannon fodder, I mean.

  22. Maze of Frustration

Welcome to the Maze of Frustration, the most challenging level for Doom2. The level is made up of 16 identical rooms, each with 4 teleporters in them and every room has an arrow. Red teleporters work while silver teleporters don't work. Certian rooms contain a square in the centre of the floor, often these rooms are the vital rooms of the map. The red square is the starting room, ect. The arrows may not mean a thing in this map and in some ways its fairly simple to complete. There are two ways to speedrun this map within 10 seconds. This map is also excellent in DM mode as well and 8 DM starts have been included in this level for one of the most fun DM experiences. GOOD LUCK!

  25. Mark's Maps

CASTLE.WAD: This is a massive castle. It has been taken over by big, bad mutant things. Kill 'em all and exit. (how original)

EGYPT.WAD: An evil Egyptian dictator has created a synthetic Valley of the Kings, and has built an underground bio-warfare research facility. Destroy the bastard and any of the strange beings he may have unearthed. With any luck, these ancient creatures have already impaled his head on an electrode and are using his brain-waves to control their ancient power supply...

FORTRESS.WAD: This is yet another "really original" level. Just kill all the bad dudes who try to mutilate you, and exit.

MANSION.WAD: This is an old creepy mansion, with a few differences. It is owned by a weird old guy who you reckon is a Satanist. He is wanted for the ceremonial slaughter of 666 men. He is concidered highly dangerous and you must use caution when apprehending. (what a load of bullsh*t, huh!) Hopefully you'll like the architecture while you're slaughtering those bad men.

TEK.WAD: Just another "kill everything in sight and throw a switch to finish" level.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
