  4. Wicked Be The Ways of Men

One map, fully compatible with DooM2.exe, while including as much detail as possible. This map is different from most other maps in that the player progresses differently through the map depending on the skill level. Each skill level "starts" the map at a different location, and some of the traps are skill-level specific. Additionally, the keys and weapons are at different locations for the different skill levels, and there are some areas that are only accessible to specific skill levels. I encourage you to play the map at each of the 3 skill level groups -- 1/2, 3, and 4/5. Note, that while skill levels are incorporated, Skills 1/2 are definitely not for the faint of heart -- in most other maps they would probably play out at Skill 3. Skill 3 is slightly more difficult than Skills 1/2, and Skills 4/5 is slightly more difficult than Skill 3, but none of the skill levels is terribly difficult.

  5. Waterwheel

UAC constructed a bolt-hole on the dark side of the moon which was terraformed for the purpose. It was known as the Waterwheel because of its shape. When you completed the cleanup at Deimos you were warped to the Waterwheel because the infestation had spread even there. You find yourself transported to the centre of the Waterwheel and need to find your way to the exit warp-point cleaning up as you go.

Sadly, the hell spawn has already carved holes into the roof and the upper levels have been flooded. Fortunately, door blocks have prevented the flooding from spreading to the control rooms that make up the wheel(s) and the lower levels where the bugs from hell have constructed their dead-rooms.

  8. WAYBAC2.WAD for DOOM ][

My intention with my second level was to construct a level that is reasonably challenging to complete, but withoout tossing 20 monsters in each room. But, I did assume that you don't cheat! Otherwise, the level will probably be too easy to complete. Chose your weapons carefully, meter your ammo, and stay on your toes!

Most rooms have a "trick" for making it through mostly unscathed, but can take a few passes to figure out the best strategy to escape with the fewest scars.

While I did place the additional player and Deathmatch starting locations, it is really designed for single player mode.

  10. The Waterworks

You find yourself dropped into the city waterworks where the usual baddies are turning your pristine drinking water into nukeage. Somehow, you've got to stop them. Ok, ok, there's not really that much plot involved, but you get the idea. Kill the bad guys and get out alive. I tried to incorporate some features that I've always wanted to see in a WAD: a waterfall and a catwalk. E-mail me and let me know what you think.

  13. WORNPEAS

Looks like a bright sunny day, almost enough to make you forget you're wandering through a desolate landscape populated by bloodthirsty mutants, with death behind every corner and door.

This is a big level (I ran out of linedefs in the editor, or it would be bigger) that should keep solo players busy for a while. Lots of tricks & lifts & such. It's probably too big for deathmatch; this level is really for introverted explorers or co-op play.

I'm trying to do better with each new WAD I write. Check out MEINHAUS if you haven't already. And if you have suggestions to make the levels play better or ideas for my next level, please let me know. I ain't doing this for money . . . I'm doing it for you.

This was written on a 486DX33, so it should be rather zippy on faster machines. It's been played on a 386DX as well, without causing suicide.

  15. Xaser's Arena (Version 2)

Okay, basically you're going to go train some in your holographic combat simulator room thingy, which puts you in a fight with some of those nasty demons. However, when you go inside, something goes wrong. All the systems say "Virus Alert" and the door locks behind you, so you can't get out. Suddenly, a bunch of baddies appear, and one of them shoots you. Damn, that actually hurt! Somebody must have messed with the simulator making it use real baddies. You have to find a way to activate all the control terminals inside the arena in order to unlock the doors and get out. However, all the enemies won't let you escape so easily...

(The story may be crap, but who cares?)

An earlier Marine expedition was responsible for the construction of a laboratory dedicated to the preservaton and study of mutant specimens in a special "Zoo." Recently, communications with this base been inexplicably cut off. Due to your track record showing your remarkable rapport with the mutants, you are sent in to investigate. You arrive to find the base infested with various creatures and nary a living marine in sight. Be careful not to release the specimens as they could make your job a lot more difficult.

  21. SYMOWOLF.WAD

Hell has taken over a WW-II British Army base with Hitler's help, of course. Your mission is to 'clean the place up a bit', if you know what I mean. It is rumoured that the Cyberdemon enjoys rocket-tennis here somewhere and that a huge demon in the form of Adolf himself resides deep underground. New graphics created on an Acorn RISC PC and converted to BMP's using !ChangeFSI and !ToBMP software. Any other Acorn DOOMers out there? How about a RISC OS map editor? I haven't got time to write one!

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
