Level editors assist you in the construction of an entirely new level after you've gotten tired of playing the original ones. It is suggested you try them all out and use the one that you find most comfortable to use. Check the filedate to see if your editor is up to date and supports doom2, heretic or hexen. Also try docs/editing for further support. If in doubt please send mail to idgmaint AT gamers.org with 'DOOM-FTP' in the subject line. However, we cannot help you with editing related problems.

  8. DMapEdit v4.3

Still looking for a really good Doom, Doom II, Heretic, Hexen , and ZDoom editor? Need an editor with more power than what you're using now? Or need an editor that's easier to use and does the grunt work for you? Want an editor to show you how to create maps instead of reading through tons of doc files?

If you answered 'yes' to any of these questions than DMapEdit is for you! This is it! The best editor there is for Doom and Doom II.

Why should you use DMapEdit instead of another editor?

Well, I'm not saying you should. I think you should check out all the editors and use the one you like the best. I think that you will decide that DMapEdit is the best in the end, though.

  9. DCK Light(er) V1.0000001

If you have a dark monitor and can't really see much of DCK's texture display (because it's too dark, natch), but you don't want to twiddle your monitor settings for one program, then you can replace DCK's DCK.PAL file with this one. (Better make a backup first, in case you don't like this one.) Oh, and if you're running V2.x of DCK, you'll need to rename this file to DEFAULT.PAL - no biggie.

  12. Source Code for DoomEd 4.2

DoomEd was written using Microsoft Visual C++ version 1.5, a 16-bit Windows compiler, and it would be a major task to convert it to a different compiler. Converting it to 32-bit would definitely be a nightmare. MSVC 1.5 is very inexpensive, and is actually included in some C++ tutorial books which are right now in book stores everywhere. Neither Geoff Allan nor Color International Productions will provide support or information regarding this source code, so don't even ask. The less we hear of this, the happier we will be. To the best of our knowledge, ALL available source code and resources are included in this file. In the event that anything is missing, it is gone forever so don't ask for it (the old hard drive was reformatted and sold).

  15. DETH v3.92

DETH (DOOM Editor for Total Headcases) is a GCC rewrite of DEU 5.21. for use with DOOM I, DOOM II, DOOM SE (Ultimate DOOM) and HERETIC. It was written by PWAD authors FOR PWAD authors, so it is with the needs of such in mind that DETH has been configured.

Also included is HETH, the HEXEN editor! HETH offers full HEXEN editing support, including scripts and polyobjects, thanks to the HEXEN-compatible nodes building power of ZenNode, which is also included with DETH. Also included is Descript by R.A. Coward, a nifty script decompiler.

DETH has a slightly darker interface that is easier on the eyes, but it has the same DEU-commands that we have come to know and love. Full-featured, no-nag freeware, with a user-configurable menu system, DETH is the editor of choice for discriminating PWAD authors.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
