Containment Area v1.1

About This File

Consider this a tribute to the original Doom's E2M2. I always liked that level for some unexplainable reason, and thus felt it neccessary to emulate the style in this map. Even if you disliked that map I trust you'll have different feelings about this one!

All six keys are present in this map, so remember that red card and red skull AREN'T the same. :)

Resources from the Doom betas, Doom64 and Quake2 have been used in this map, as well as some original sounds/graphics by me.

I wish the author had done remakes for other Ultimate Doom maps. This level is classic.

Dude, that level was almost too hard. I just get a shotgun, fight a few imps. then i say, "this should be a cakewalk!". Then all of the sudden i walk over to this crate, and then like 20 monsters, a baron, and like, all kinds of demons and renevats start teleporting in! They say that you need all six keys but i only needed the yellow card, and the blue card and skull. Maybe i might have jumped or something... 5 out of 5 though. -Kingcacodemon

It is an awesome map and a great tribut to the Doom I level. Too bad the author didn't do a remake of all the Doom maps and then make a megawad out of it, because if he did, the result would probably be just about the best Doom I remake out there!

The dumbass who typed in ALL CAPS should have his balls kicked up into his throat, kthx. That said, this is indeed a spectacular level and...I just love it. It's very well designed, there's an excellent atmosphere throughout the map and the fact that it has all six keys (!) present means you won't blow through this in just five minutes, either. I recommend this map without reservation to any serious Doomer, and most certainly to anyone who thoroughly enjoyed the original E2M2, like me. -DooMBoy

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
