About This File

Once upon a time in a galaxy far, far away...

NUTS.WAD!!!!

THE STORY SO FAR... You are assigned to destroy the final Hellspawn army on Litrivin IV. The government sends you all alone becuase you got drunk at the General's Birthday party last year and he never liked you since. Since this is the biggest Hellspawn army ever esstablished, the cheap-ass General sends you with nothing but a pea shooter. Good luck.

I've played this level for 5 minutes, then I went to the street and I was totally shocked. I mean, holy cow, everything is moving so fast! 5/5

This is actually a pretty crappy .wad file. I got it, if only for the novelty value. Even so, the rooms could have been smaller. More rooms and less enemies would have made the game go faster. Is there anyone who could beat this without cheating?

Fuck yeah. It was awesome. From Youtube, the people who made the vids of Nuts.wad makes the game lag. Anyway, 5/5! - Jack

Amazing how even today, with computers that can stand up to the graphics of modern games, this map still gets to be infamous for bringing nearly any computer to its knees, all while using a game that can normally be handled even by the cheapest of laptops. Can it run Crysis? Sure. Can it run NUTS.WAD? Not without starting the map in notarget mode first.

Comes close to unplayable on GZDoom (With a computer that can run Crysis!), it CAN be beat, but it requires a ludicrous amount of luck and timing to beat it, it's good for a cheap laugh and odd challenge (How close can you get to the exit before you alert so many monsters that your computer conks out or you die?). It's fun if you don't take it seriously and would make a good prank. But it's pretty horrible using normal level design sensibilities.

You pretty much have to play this with ZDoom. By default ZDoom gets rid of the infinately tall monster problem, making this level a breeze.

I'll give him two stars because I found the sheer amount of slowdown to have some novelty, and to put that many monsters in must have taken a while :P

Took me 28 minutes to get through and caused me to lag at the start when the monsters started firing. Insanity, but good on a rainy day.

Bizarrely, I actually enjoyed this. I'm giving it 3 stars purely because of that, but don't download this wad expecting it to offer good mapping and gameplay. The formula used here is basically to create a gigantic space and inundate it with monsters. That's it. Incidentally, if you don't already know, the author of this wad made Equinox, which also has some large monster counts, but is one of the best wads made for DooM, and, despite its flaws, remains my favourite level pack.

Believe it or not, people have beaten this level. On UV. Without cheating. Should keep you amused for a while with the billions of fireballs flying around and the comically low framerates. 4/5 --Woolie

This level is actually more carefully designed than you would imagine at the first glance. For example, room size is set that you can barely reach the switch to open the front door until the invulnarability wears off (and get another invulnarability behind the door). And yes, this level is beatable without any cheat.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
