About This File

My first map.

A large, two-themed level created for Co-op, inspired by Hell Revealed and Alien Vendetta. Emphasizes large, well-choreographed fights. Exceptionally calibrated for Single Player.

Deus Vult starts you off in an underground tech base and will eventually plunge you into the depths of Dante's Inferno in front of your eyes. Difficulty holds up to the extremes of HR. Legions of monsters. 150 minute [estimated] par time.

The map can be played in two distinct configurations:

Config 1 - Split into four sublevels for people who do not have patience to play through large maps, or do not own a high-end PC (<1.8 GHZ). Also good for co-op play, since smaller levels lag less. Designed to be completable from scratch. *Runs from Map 01-04.*

Config 2 - The full monty, the unabridged version of Deus Vult, for people who likes big maps. Designed to be completable from scratch. WARNING: Needs an EXTREMELY STRONG LIMIT REMOVING SOURCEPORT. *Runs on Map 05.*

Huy got the actual level part down well. The gameplay, unfortunately, fails it.

This wad is very nice. The battles are well tunned. with lots of surprises. Excellent gameplay but not for the average doomer. its just insane hard style like hr and some people may say sucks and vomit. But OMG the views !!! at the start of map 2 is impressive just looking, the same with the twisted circle evil room of map 4. Take patience and a couple of tea and enjoy this beauty. 5/5

I've never seen anything like this in the history of Doom, the scope of the satanic architecture and overwhelming fights are AWESOME. Sad that this wad cant be a perfect 5 due to some jerks. Totally fucking awesome, out of this world. 666 stars.

EXCELLENT! The challenges were beyond belief and the detail was razor-sharp. Its a good thing the author splitted Deus Vult into 4 separate levels, but it was a great thing how you could play the unadbridged version as well. I recommend using ZDoom for this. I would love to see more levels from this author; they were just spectacular. BTW, the demos were just AWESOME. The last time was amazed by a completed demo was from MAP24 from Hell Revealed.

The visuals are quite excellent. However it can't break out of the ancient "Go though door, kill 40 monsters, progress to next door" style of gameplay. That style of gameplay is mind numbing after about the first 3 rooms. It gets a 5 for visuals but a 2 for gameplay. I'll be generous and give it a 4.

Without a doubt, this wad is an absolute classic. In fact, for a first release, add two other words: Totally unbelievable. I played as one huge map (05) and not only is it absolutely gigantic and loaded with thousands of monsters and some simply amazing architecture, but it managed to be enjoyable for me start to finish - an element some maps like this can lack IMO. I think it is almost a crime this only got a honorable mention in Cacowards; this is EASILY in the top 10 for any year, period. Absolutely 5/5.

It took me 4 and a half god damn hours to beat this monster on UV (And a few game crashes!), but it was worth it! I really DO feel like I just went through hell itself, but I feel more triumphant than I ever have felt before. A must-get!

Wtf, brilliant it's cool but it's not amazing. It's no av or hr.First off you can only get the yellow key in the big map soo if you can't acess the yellow room in map1.I know it's ust a shortcut or something, but still.Ok now map4 is waaayyy to big. It's sucks to have to start over from the start because you got ambushed.level design and hardcore gameplay is cool other than that ***1/2 look forward to next level by author -denizen

Personally I'm not too keen, but considering how many votes, and the average score, this wad has it deserved to be in the top wads of 2004

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
