1 hour about slaughtering huge amount of weak monsters in a castle/hotel, subway, city for one hour. Time well spent
Even if the maps starts with repetitive corridors the later parts of the map are pretty creative for an older city themed wad using only stock textures.

As someone living in Europe, I can attest this is a perfectly accurate depiction of everyday life. 5/5

This is a huge TNT-inspired level only at a larger scale. It's not particularly life-like, nor is it anything original. Only good if you like pumping hordes of sergeants (or getting pumped) full of magnum buckshot with the SSG, and scooping all the ammo you can get by sweeping the map upside down several times. 2.5/5 rounded down to 2 :-( -Maes

It's kinda big but you know I really enjoyed that! I was fine with health (played on the easiest level though). Some of the structures are funny or neat looking here! Lot's of action..

Unfortunately completely unplayable, because of gigantic, cofnusing spaces; 1700 monsters; and a repetitive music. The author however put a lot of work into it. some of the ideas (although not super-original) are still used in domm far too little. Still, the execution of these ideas leaves much to be desired. 2/5 -- ellmo

This is not a TNT style level. this is what we call garbage. The guy wasted his time making this huge unplayable level. This map is not perfect. If you think it is perfect you must have some kind of brain disease. There is simply not enough ammo or health. It's unplayable. It's horrible too. The map's architecture is incredibly basic. The only comments that are shit here are the morons rating this anything higher than a 3 out of 5. I give it a 1/5.

If you don't actually go in expecting it to be a regular map, this is pretty great, nice to have a really wide open area to explore. Yeah, the monsters were a little much, and the water area needs fixing up, but I found a lot of really nice touches in this. Just don't try to play through it in one sitting, unless you're into that kind of thing.

If you ACTUALLY sit and play through this, it's not a bad map at all. The detail is nothing like 1994 or 1995, and considering how large it is, it's actually pretty reasonably detailed, and sometimes really clever tricks are used for architecture, all using original Doom textures and features. Compared to something like Dawn of Reality, this is as big (if not bigger) and closer to actual HR Doom gameplay. Ammo and health require a lot of backtracking though. It's a must play. Revisited to 4.5/5 -Maes

I liked it! You get all the ammo from the zombies, so mapper doesnt have to put ammo at all. I liked the detail. "This is not a TNT style level." Its not, its much better :D 5/5

After reading the reviews I was expecting something a lot worse. Just finished it on UV total time: 1h55 mins. I died once on first run (arch-vile got me). The lack of health makes you feel quite edgy not knowing what to expect and when you do find health: berzerk, soul spheres and a megasphere at the end you do feel quite a relief. I didn't bother killing all the monsters (as recommended) and ended up about 1700/1800. It wasn't much to look at but 4/5 from me because I enjoyed it.

This is dated September 2005. It's big but not very good; you fight 1,700+ mostly weak monsters - imps, former humans - in a series of square corridors that resemble something from 1995, but larger. It's superficially fun just because of the volume of slaughter, but it's boring! It feels like the kind of thing map designers would have made in 1995 if they had had limit-removing ports back then, but no talent for gameplay.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
