I believe it should be mandatory for levels of this nature to have a berzerk pack right at the beginning; that way, if you run out of ammunition, you at least have a chance to progress. Over the years I have come to admire the berzerk pack. It is now my favourite of all the weapons.

Unfortunately this is the kind of monster-packed map that's just long and boring. Good fights are rare, actually there's just one that I can think of - the first cyber area. There are also some quite terrible moments, like the copy/paste hell knight stairs or the jumping sections which I despise in Doom maps. The looks and overall design are what helped this wad get a 3/5 - Belial

Wow. Very Very beautiful map. Feels so much like INFERNO, and the details are astonishing. The floating platforms are very well placed and add so much atmosphere to the map. The layout is so non-linear, it get begs to be explored. Its rare to see a map of this theme thats so well done. Gameplay might be a slight bit frustrating though. The Cyber-demon trap is a tad bit unfair. 5/5

Finally something else from the guy who made Dimensions of Time back in 98 (which I personally loved!).

Don't listen to Belial. Fantastic map with fantastic coop play. We got stuck however at the end, pressing red switch made all the other switches hide and exit stood closed. Maybe it was our fault because we didn't found yellow door too.

I gotta agree with Belial, I was pretty bored, it felt like the very late Evilution maps, action wise. But the map is pretty neat looking, I love the atmosphere, and the floating platforms trick early on kicks butt. I quit halfway, maybe I'll check out the rest later. 4 stars

This map is alright. The gameplay is mostly good (except for HR-like hordes, the Hellknight staircases, and the jumping parts) and the new monsters are pretty good. The design and architecture are mostly excellent (see the HK staircase for an exception). However, it's sometimes a bit repetitive and too long for my taste. 3/5 - Wills

very fun..but too many monster after battle vs cyberdeomon in small room are not good.

I liked it. I thought the fights were nice, and the consistency was sound. Three stars because quite frankly the map design wasnt the winnar and making me use ZDoom to play something that doesnt at all need to be ZDoom is a waste.

Hmm. This is one of those large-scale showpiece levels, with hundreds of monsters and lots of fighting. It's very short on ammo in UV, even with infighting; and the second half is too copy-and-paste. Looks wonderful though, and reminded me of... it reminded me of something. The Spire or something like that, or Null Space (which I prefered).

I think the round staircases with Spectres and Hell Knights really hurt the overall feel of this map. It had some good and some ok parts before that, but then it just fell. Those were boring to play, and extremely tiring to do 4 times in a row. Also, the red color everywhere started to feel kind annoying towards the end. 3/5

I got a good 45 mins of gameplay out of this. Design/Detail is excellent and I liked the challenge. A bit short on ammo though. -4/5- Julz_D

It's a large map in hellish style with red bricks and stones and a lot of lava, plus it shows a great level of detail and some nice surreal tricks, which add to a dreamlike, hellish atmosphere. Gameplay is very tight, so you better play this on a lower skill level than you would normally do. There are two new monsters which aren't too innovative from their visual aspect, but still interesting and challenging. It's a great map and you should definitely play this. 4.5/5 -Milian

This is a good-looking map with some gameplay problems. Since I can't give 3.5 stars, I'll drop it to 3 stars because of that HK stair part.

Very few ammo. Too hard. 4/5 because it's your first after 8 years and it's a huge work. - Optimus

This level has a "nightmarish" look on it. Fun to play.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
