The original "Living End" is one of the most interesting, high-concept maps in Doom II; this remake, while not overtly original, manages to recapture the original climate and gives an interesting reinterpretation. The ammo and health are carefully balanced, just enough to make the level playable but also make the player feel unsafe and oppressed. Recommended.

Sniper level. Lots of work, nicely decorated, good ambiance. But gameplay is based almost totally on being attacked in an open area by an overdosis snipers and flying shit. IMHO this map looks great and is hard (but doable) @ UV, but gameplay amuses for at most two minutes or so, then gets uninteresting due to the almost total lack of variation. It's just shoot - hide - shoot - hide - etcetera. Presumably top stuff for sniper lovers, but too monotonous for me. 2* for the build effort, it's a real pity.

Definitely a legendary map, although the challenge can be unfair at times on UV skill (and I am usually the one to complain that maps are too easy). Ironically, I think the end battle is easier than the original Living End, because the Barons end up fighting with the Cyberdemon. I will give this map 5-stars despite the somewhat unfair challenge, because it is definitely full of fantastic visuals and ideas.

Chris Lutz is well known for his huge, detailed maps and this one is a masterpiece!. If you liked the original MAP29, you will love this too!. Hey Romero now go and take a look this bugga! Because this is a much bigger, much more detailed and challenging version made from scratch and there is not many places to hide. You will get absolutley belted to death if you are not careful. It deserves 5 Stars but it would have been better to include co-op stars. Still gets a 5! -PC

A spectacular map from the brilliant but uneven Lutz. This may be his best yet, even though it's a little different from the rest. The map retains the classic feel of the original while pumping up the visuals and the difficulty thus being a modern map as well. 5 stars.

Probably the hardest map I've played, even on the lower difficulties. Looks nice, though.

Chris Lutz should remake the rest of Doom II while he's at it, or at least the other large maps like Industrial Zone and Spirit World.

- Too many enemies. As said before, some of them, can be left behind... but most of them cannot be avoided. - Low ammunition. Advice to the designer: Pain Elementals in large spaces need ALOT ammo because they spawn MANY lost souls. + AWESOME DESIGN Preserving the level's design lines but making it better. Color theme in level sections, awesome. + Large level This is what living end wanted to be in the first place. You sir, fulfilled its destiny. == Please, DooM II, needs more of you.

Words cannot describe. Beautiful. Since I'm 12, I aim for this 14 year-old's work to be my bar...

I couldn't get much into the gameplay because I haven't had the time. Otherwise, I think the map is pretty ugly. The many stair-like ramps don't help and, compared to the original, texturing can be too varicolored or garish. Shawn metal on the lifts? No!

An absolutely unplayable mess, bludgeoning you repeatedly over the head with turbo-opening chaingunner monster closets in every direction while you attempt to dodge 500,000 fireballs from mancubi all the way across the map without enough ammo to shoot at them even if you could see where they were. Then if you manage to survive that with a few health points left, a cacodemon sneaks up behind you in a 64-wide hallway while you're duking it out with a revenant. Fuck thisu dumb map.

Pistol started on UV - the HARDEST level i've ever played! Be prepared for a savegames, low ammo and desperate struggles. 5/5

Wow. If Carmack and the others from Id made a modern-day version of Map29 using the current Doom editing tools available, this is probably what it might look like. Very difficult, but very fitting considering this is Hell's final stronghold before the Icon of Sin. The flow is retained nicely, yet everything is improved. You sir earn the legendary 5-star rating and a round of applause.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
