GALAXIA.WAD (The Ultimate Czech Level)

About This File

- This is my first creation. But I tried to avoid mistakes like too high sector, too long line, HOM, texture misalignment and such ... - It took me many hours and when I finished the level after several weeks, I didn't want to have just a few soldiers. So, this is gonna be tough. - No Cyberdemon, but several spiders. But wait! The one in the first room is here just for the story and will be killed later. All other spiders are only decorations and won't be killed. A few cacos and barons. (total: over 330 enemies) - You will be given all weapons except the BFG. - Don't believe in invulnerability. (It sucks). - There are no traps or places where you would stuck. - No puzzles, just an instant and hard action. Hey, this is DOOM! - My plan was to design an original subway area and sewers. (of course). When I started, I hadn't played a single pwad before. So I didn't steal any idea, just was not first. - THE LEVEL WAS DESIGNED FOR ONE PLAYER ONLY AS A STAND ALONE WAD. PLAY THE LEVEL AND QUIT. YOU SHOULD HAVE A FAST 486 (designed on DX2-66 VLB). - I can complete the level in about 50 minutes.

A very large level for its ago. A bit ugly as far as looks, but plenty of nice ideas and good gameply keep it interesting.

Almost ten years later, I still come back to this one. Something about the way all the Masterminds are placed and the use of the Das Boot MIDI really drives this one home for me. ...I'm gonna go play it again.

It's pretty decent. It's certainly one of the more complex levels from 1994. The texturing is a bit ugly on some parts and I thought there were too many mazes in the level. The story is interesting. I love that TITLEPIC. I find it funny. 4/5.

you can play this in doom 2 by renaming the map name (using XWE or something like that) to MAP01 and rename the music file to D_RUNNIN. now you can enjoy the greatest czech level ever made using doom 2!

This is a hard level, good for multi-player. The first part requires some matrix moves. Other than that, good luck. ~4/5

This tags along with UAC_DEAD as the best 1994 levels to come out. The use of story, music, textures, sound effects...just a massive combination of things went into effect to really show this wads excellence.

Pretty interesting ... 3/5 for a 2014 wad, 5/5 for when it came out in 1994. So I average it to 4/5 :-)

5/5 This map was sweet! Little on the long side, and a few areas were a little tough on the eyes in terms of lighting, but still pretty cool. Wish I knew where E1M1's music came from. Can't seem to find the song listed.

Hysteria: 'THIS IS THE BEST WAD EVER!!!!'. Ok, maybe if this is the only wad you've ever seen... Having said that, I've played this one 2 decades ago in the 486/25 time, was impressed by the size, but considered the architecture and gameplay as quite bad. Even in 1994 a lót of maps did exist which were milestones better than this one. So 1.5 + 1 for the effort in the non-DB2 era = small 3/5.

Great fun from a prolific early wad author (a non-sequitur is when you finish a thought with an unrelated thought). Marred by too many mazes, but it has at least two memorable bits (the spiders, and the spaceship at the end). E1M9 is a tiny sort-of Tyson level in the spaceship proper that could have been in Congestion 1024.

Wow, 11 years old and pretty complex map with a story. Quite realistic layout and few eyeballfucking lights for atmosphere (not that I don't like it). I like pwads that pretend to present some story and some regular place, even if they're older than Rolling Stones. 5/5 from me, author probably even don't remember that he did it - but I had handful of fun few minutes ago -- Brun Ohn

A bit confusing at times, but god damn, this just OOZES with atmosphere. Excellent fun and great MIDI choice too. I think this is the best user made map from 1994, and it deserves nothing short of 5 stars.

Pretty cool with the story tying in with the WAD. Never really a big fan of new sound effects but I had fun with the level. ~vf

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
