Memento Mori 2 - complete lmp collection

This is a collection of recorded demos (lmps) for all 34 levels of Memento
Mori 2. All lmps were recorded on skill 4 (Ultra-Violence), ending with at
least 100% kills and 100% secrets where it's possible.
To playback these demos, go to the suiting directory and type:
doom2 -file mm2.wad mm2mus.wad -playdemo map??-**
where ?? is the level number and ** is the author

It took a few months, but it's finally finished. I originally
planned to do this alone, but I quickly discovered I couldn't
beat all of the levels. I posted a message to just about every
DooM newsgroup, and slowly I started to recieve replies and LMP's.
I think Jim was the first to reply. As you can see George ended
up with the most demos with me comeing in a close second. Peo
sent in the last three demos. It was fun working with these
people to complete this collection, but I must say I'm happy
that it's done. You'll be seeing more of my LMP's on the 'Net
since I have nothing better to do. I promise that I will complete
at least two more DHT titles, bringing my total to five. So, until
next title...

It was nice to do only the maps I like, unlike some maps I did for TNT ;-)
Memento Mori II was a bit of a disappointment for me, though it is not
because the general quality is low, there are just some levels that I really
don't like. However many maps there are wonderful, so I was glad to
contribute a bit to this collection... And I am also glad that it's over,
now there is more time to do Final Doom with -fast ;-)

The Innocent Crew was slow in getting out their UV demos so I
quickly jumped on the bandwagon when I saw Andy's post. The
MM2 twenty-something levels are some of my favorites although
they can be long.
It was great fun being a part of this recording team and watching
the other lmps. The MM2 authors deserve a huge chunk of credit,
it's obvious they have sunk tons of time into this masterpiece.
Our sometimes critical comments are not to be taken too harshly,
overall I think the WAD is one of the best or I would not have wasted
my time on it. In fact overall I like MM2 better than Final DOOM.

Well, George asked me to help out with some of the maps, before that I
had only watched Yonatans lmps for the collection, never played any maps
myself. It is hard for me to judge any maps except for the 3 I made
which were quite nice. I did'nt play them compet-n style, but pretty
safe and slow..
Matthias Worch

Not much left to say - MM2 seems to be far away right now, though I still
like playing some of the levels sometimes. I started my own UV demo
collection right when this thing was thrown out, but my (about 15) finished
lmps got lost due to a hd-crash :( Never mind, here are at least 2 demos
done by me.
Also my thanks and deep respect to the other players, some levels of mm2 are
real bitches and very hard to beat :)

MM2-01 - Outpost
----------------
Nice design, but much too short. Should be more difficult.
MM2-02 - The Feeding Pit
------------------------
Small, boring, and very easy.
MM2-03 - ...And Hell Beneath
----------------------------
The first good level in MM2. It's somewhat dark, but still well
done. Very detailed, especially the altar.
MM2-04 - Ratamahatta
--------------------
Much too dark. Cavernous levels were never my favorites, but this
is really bad. While it is quite challenging it's also annoyingly
repetative. It looks like all of DooM1 Episode 3 pasted into one
huge level.
MM2-05 - Rites of Passage
-------------------------
Another dark level. To be fair it does use the new graphics fairly
well and it's not easy, but it's not hard. There wasn't enough
action to keep me interested.
MM2-06 - Trapped
--------------------
This map has my favorite music of any MM2 level, I have played
it often just for that reason. Nice design in general but
a bit linear, also has some dark repetitive sections where I tended
to get lost. The temple-like structure that opens up is very well done.
MM2-07 - Frustration
--------------------
What happened to the lights? That's right: another dark one. It's
a sewer system. Skill is medium. It's very detailed and has many
secrets.
MM2-08 - Stigmata
-----------------
This isn't a great level, but it's a step in the right direction.
For a change it's well lit; no more dark, shadowy, dungeon-like
areas. It can be hard if you aren't careful.
MM2-09 - Sabbath Sewer
----------------------
For a while, this was my favorite level, but that changed with this
recording. Ammo and health was few and far between, requiring long
treks to small niches to stock up, then a long run back to the
battlefront... When I was about to pick up the yellow key near the
deep lava lake, I was in a panic because of the horde of Cacodemons,
the Revenants firing their you-seeking missles, let alone the Mancubi
and Arachnoton(s?) in the lake itself. Oh, yes, the time. Well, it
sucked. I see nobody else attempted it. :-)
MM2-10 - Clear For Death
------------------------
This level was done in about 2 1/2 days just before mm2 should be released,
because the original author didn't reply...IMHO the map it's not brilliant
but ok, especially for the short time. Unfortunatly I realized too late that
some parts (i.e. the caco-trap or the 2 pain elementals) can be quiet
annoying without any chaingun ;)
MM2-11 - Sewer Shutdown

Now I think this is a nice level. I actually had fun recording this!
There is an important secret revealed near the beginning of the level,
that allows one access to the Soul Sphere. Watch for it.
MM2-12 - The Waterway
---------------------
I was having a bad day when I recorded this. I took way too
many hits for such an easy level. It's well designed in the
MAP29(DooM2) style.
MM2-13 - Devils Paradise
------------------------
A pretty easy map, only tricky part is when you teleport to the
soulsphere area, since it is hard to avoid being hit by at least
one revenant shot..
MM2-14 - A Question of Time
---------------------------
The first map that I did for this collection (well, I did 12 before that but
there were already lmps for it). It is a very nice map, the lmp is quite
slow because when I played with savegames I encountered some problems I
don't encounter in this lmp. Much easier than I expected...
MM2-15 - The Devils Coterie
---------------------------
A big map with a couple of tough sections. Who would of thought
a horde of Cacodemons could be hard, but it is. Also, prepare yourself
for the simultaneous release of three Arch Viles at the end.
MM2-16 - The Nephilim
---------------------
Another good level... I did some silly mistakes but there is definitely
plenty of health here, enough to allow many mistakes. The big enemy
mentioned in the infopack is I believe the demon boss that you can see if
you stand in a specific place near the ssg.
MM2-17 - No One
---------------
A very nice level. Deffinately among the top ten of MM2. It's
also quite tricky. Plenty of ammo but very little health. You
must take care not to make mistakes.
MM2-18 - Regulate
-----------------
The start of this I thought extremely tough, until I realized you
can telefrag all the nasties. I tend to run out of ammo on this
one, especially before I found all the secrets. Overall, though, I
didn't like the design of this level that much. The secrets for example
are almost all simple niches in the walls.
MM2-19 - The Shaft
------------------
One of the hardest maps I have played, especially the
elevator to hell, had some problems finding my way, should
have done it a lot faster but did'nt have the time..
MM2-20 - The Experiment
-----------------------
This is a really fun level, medium sized and of a rather simple
design. The Cyberdemon battle is a classic - a room of just the right
size to make it exciting but not desperate. There is a second
Cyberdemon that you never see, the pause at the end is to make sure
he has been crushed.
TNT-21 - Sanctuary
------------------
A very beautiful map, though way too long for my taste. I did it twice since
the first time I only got 98% kills. It might look difficult but it isn't
since there is more than enough health and ammo lying around and not
dangerous enemies (except the two cyberdemons, but they can't get to you).
MM2-22 - R.R.F. Refinary
------------------------
A good level with some great moments, though I can imagine that some people
don't like its size and amount of monsters. It took some time to finish this
map, but once you have beaten the first part and have the blue key it's not
too hard.
MM2-23 - No Way Out
-------------------
Nice map with too many secrets, perhaps a little bit big.
Like all my lmps for this collection a bit slow. Wish I would have had
more time to do it faster...
MM2-24 - Io Lab
---------------
Another good map. At first I thought it was an E1M7-clone but after playing
it I saw that it is only 80% like E1M7 ;-) I have no problem with that,
since I love E1M7 and this was a very easy map, so I enjoyed recording it.
MM2-25 - Forgotten Town
-----------------------
This became my favorite MM2 level of the ones I recorded. There are some
very clever puzzles and the whole level ties together very well, it
typifies what I mean by not being linear (watch how the starting area
is transformed). The Cyberdemon battle is amazingly hard, many times
I slipped into the slime and ate a rocket.
MM2-26 - Base Exposure
----------------------
This level has the greatest number of monster hit points of any MM2
level but actually isn't super hard, because of big open spaces to
start monster-monster battles and a couple of invulnerability spheres.
There is an empty secret sector in this map, so you can't get 100% secrets.
MM2-27 - The Silos
------------------
I really like the look of this map with it's towers connected by
catwalks. But I discovered it can be frustrating to play.
There are several claustrophobic slots where you can easily die
and other monsters high up in towers that can be hard to hit.
This level can be completed in many different ways, because of
it's design and since you get most of the weapons at the start.
There is one secret sector too slim to enter.
MM2-28 - Corporate Hell
-----------------------
This thing is so big it really is two levels. The start is a lot like
DOOM2's Downtown (Map 13) , and then you get to the corporate archology
super towers with their unique central elevator. This level really
pushes the limits of the DOOM engine for representing skyscrapers,
but three full dimensions are really needed. It is also extremely
tough, probably the hardest one I recorded. The end in itself may be the
hardest spot in any MM2 map.
MM2-29 - Kings of Metal
-----------------------
The 9 Arch Vile's are the kings of this challenging map. One thing I don't
like about this map is that if you go first to the open L shaped room
you are basically stuck. Some of the secrets are so devious I had to
resort to a map editor. Not my favorite although it is quite hard.
MM2-30 - It
-----------
With vast piles of ammo this final level is really quite easy. The author
tried to keep things interesting by requiring all three keys, but then
placed them all almost in the same place. The music here drives me
nuts (even if it is Tchaikovsky). No secrets.
MM2-31 - Dejavu
---------------
A fantastic Episode One style level. Quite easy, but it's too
beautifully built for me to care. Obviously much time was spent
on this one. 100% Kills are not possible due to an Imp that's
been placed inside a barrel and cannot teleport out. Was this
intentional, Orin?
MM2-32 - Dances With Demons
---------------------------
This map I think of as a souped up version of DOOM2 Map07. Very small
and simple design and a lot of fun to play. No secrets.
MM2-S1 - Secret Operation 1
---------------------------
This map sucks! It doesn't even look finished as there are several
groups of monsters in rooms you can't even get to, 78% kills was the
best I could ever get. I could also only get to 2 of the 8 secrets.
Note: you won't be able to play back this level unless you know
where it is (we aren't telling).
MM2-S2 - Secret Operation 2
---------------------------
Now this is MM2 quality. Fun map with several very nasty traps, be
sure to save often. The two Arch Viles at the start can be a big
surprise. The plasma gun I think should be a secret but there
are none on this map. Watch out for ghost demons at the end.
Note: you won't be able to play back this level unless you know
where it is (we aren't telling).
