RonnieJamesDiner Posted November 11, 2020 (edited) There were a lot of great looking projects this year that I simply haven’t taken the time to play yet (Akeldama, Interception II, Refracted Reality, Three’s A Crowd, not to mention the rapid-fire DBP releases; the list just goes on...), but among the selection I did sample over 2020, these just happen to stand out as personal favorites. These were all very fun, and managed to avoid disappearing down the memory hole. In alphabetical order... 25 Years on Earth by Phobus Abandon by Bemused, Benjogami and Scotty Ar Luminae by Aurelius and Kaito aVOID by bolon667 (I mentioned this already on page 2, but it deserves a second shout.) Bastion of Chaos by Bridgeburner56 Freaky Panties 2: Boxers or Briefs by Remilia Scarlet Mutabor by tourniquet Ray Mohawk's Manic Monday by Doomkid Shrine II by Scumhead and Mengo Syringe by Pavera, Tarnsman, Marcaek and Xaser Technicolor Antichrist Box by Major Arlene The Devil's Wrath by sturmgewehr44 (Of all the "first maps" I tried this year, this one stood out to me.) And, these are the projects I feel weird mentioning because I was a part of them, but they're still incredible community megawads... 1,000 Lines 2 by Liberation and crew Rowdy Rudy 2: POWERTRIP by Doomkid and crew The Mapwich 2 by Bridgeburner56 and crew Finally, I’m really not sure if this fits into a category or anything, but I just want to specifically give a mention to the legendary Mr. John S. Weekley (@PRIMEVAL). Between Bastion of Chaos, TAB, and Abysm 2: Infernal Contract – and possibly more that I missed, or am forgetting – the quality of his musical output this year has been astounding, and he elevates every project he touches to a whole different level. You've given us some epic tunes this year, and I doubt I'll get "The Coming Hour" out of my head for quite some time. Bridgeburner56 Posted November 11, 2020 Gonna second RJD's call and pick @PRIMEVAL for creator of the year. Unmatched quality in his musical compositions and a tireless creator. 10 Quote Share this post Link to post

AL-97 Posted November 12, 2020 The Demon Blade is one of the better GZDoom-specific maps released this year and a great adventure in its own right that sends you on a quest through abandoned villages, catacombs, forests and haunted dungeons to find the titular Demon Blade. Semi-realistic, moderate detailing and great gameplay. 5 Quote Share this post Link to post
baja blast rd. Posted November 15, 2020 We're at cutoff time again. Feel free to keep using the thread, but it's unlikely anything new will be considered for this cycle (it'll be for the next). Thanks for all the helpful posts. 24 Quote Share this post Link to post

Untamed64 Posted November 17, 2020 Would DOOG be eligible for a Cacoward? It'd be cool to have a cacoward category for off-engine projects 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Caleb13 Posted November 21, 2020 I'd like to mention Archi-TEK, because the amount of detail in these maps is just mind-bending. What makes it even more impressive, this is the first public release by this author. While the maps can get confusing and thus probably aren't Cacoward material by themselves, I think the author qualifies for the "Most promising newcomers" category. rchi 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Oh well fuck I shoulda done something goddamn I was busy. Well I did compile a list of all megawads released in 2020 as the year went on so there's bound to be a write-up of 2020 being the true "year of the megawad" even though there was a year that had been called that. DoodGuy Posted December 3, 2020 Refracted Reality deserves a Cacoward just because of its looks, but the gameplay is strong as well. For mods I'd mentionate DOOSK (Dusk weapons and monsters) for it's gameplay and effort it took and Highway Acceleroid Booster for it's originality and wackyness that every TerminusEst13 mod needs. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Droolius_Sneezer Posted December 3, 2020 Definitely gonna nominate Three Is a Crowd for this year, such a strong megawad both in concept and execution. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

It is job of other people to mention your mods. Secondly, the 2020 cacowards have already been announced now. So good luck for next year's cacowards :) 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
