In what map format can i make ZDaemon maps?

Tor1zo

Question

So i want to start making more Deathmatch maps for ZDaemon, and o thought ZDaemon was Boom only, turns out you can do slopes and other stuff that isnt in Boom and i found a specific map format for ZDaemon, which i cant get to run on something more modern than Doom Builder 2, and i cant download Ultimate Doom Builder because it requires a certain redistributable that is broken when downloaded from the official microsoft page. (Ive tried GZDoom Builder 2 but it gives me some errors when trying to insert the .cfg file)

So the question is, what map format can i use to make maps for ZDaemon?

You can make maps for ZDaemon in Doom and Hexen format. Hexen format is very more advanced that boom format, with scripting ACS, line specials with arguments, thing specials, polyobjects, and all the BooM features, with new ones. i recommend hexen format for making ZDaemon compatible deathmatch maps.

As a rule of thumb for making cross-compatible deathmatch maps, I usually make them in Doom in Hexen format, but only use Boom features, plus slopes, deep water and "thing bridges" made up of midtextures to emulate 3D floors. This way you'll guarantee not only ZDaemon compatibility but Odamex as well. All the other stuff like Mapinfo lumps and whatnot work in all 3 Deathmatch ports.
