Dr.Ferret Posted September 5, 2020 I have only played the first two and the new ones. I’m wondering if final doom is good. Is it worth playing? Is it even a real doom game? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Pseudonaut Posted September 5, 2020 It's not perfect, but yeah, you should play it. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
M_W Posted September 5, 2020 It's good. Plutonia is mf hard tho. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
P41R47 Posted September 5, 2020 For me TNT: Evilution is a really good Ultimate Doom successor What i'm trying to say is that Ultimate Doom maps had a good amount of atmosphere, sense of place, mood, and details. Pointing this out, TNT: Evilutions follows that trend pretty much with a good dose of challenging gameplay. Obviosly, there are some not really good maps on it, but well, at least they are easy. The Plutonia Experiment, on the other hand, is a great successor to Doom 2, where all maps had somekind of gimmick and are more focused on offering a good gameplay challenge. Plutonia even recycle some Doom 2 maps and make them far more challenging and hard to beat. Plutonia offers an arcade feel on its core design. While TNT: Evilution goes for a realistic and even fear inducing or unsettling approach. Both are really amazing megawads. But TNT: Evilutions is the one i prefer. 5 Quote Share this post Link to post
Gunstar Green Posted September 6, 2020 I'm the opposite. I enjoy Plutonia but Evilution is kind of a slog for me these days. Back to the first post, I'm not sure what constitutes a "real Doom game" but it's an official commercial release. I think the most accurate description is that it's a collection of two Doom II mission packs. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
goggles stan Posted September 6, 2020 well yeah, its not for everybody tnt can be boring for a bit(not as boring as some levels in doom 2)plutonia can be quite hard but if you're anything like me that just makes you want to play more of it,but still there both nicely designed fun to play and mostly fair 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
goggles stan Posted September 6, 2020 final doom well isnt for everybody tnt can kinda slog and plutonia can fell a bit to hard at times but both can be quite a lot of fun and quite nicely designed, tnt evilution is not that hard and more of a starting point for final doom, will plutonia is is like a skill challenge for people who thought doom 2 wasn't hard enough 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Lila Feuer Posted September 6, 2020 2 hours ago, Dr.Ferret said: Is it even a real doom game? Quote Final Doom (or Final DOOM as a brand) is a pair of standalone Doom II modifications, TNT: Evilution and The Plutonia Experiment, which include full sets of new levels, some new graphics and textures and some new music in the former case, in addition to most of the resources from Doom and Doom II. It was published on June 17, 1996 by id Software under the initiative of John Romero and developed by members of the fan community belonging to TeamTNT. Ahem, yeah. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
DNSKILL5 Posted September 6, 2020 I like Final Doom. TNT and Plutonia. I think that the “Final Doom” on PS1 was a good way of putting them together with the “Master Levels”, and probably would’ve been more palatable for the ones that have the loudest distaste for Final Doom had the PC version been more like the one found on PS1. There’s still a lot of content but it wasn’t the entire TNT and Plutonia WADs which made them shorter and mixing in the master levels made up for it there. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Kokoro Hane Posted September 6, 2020 I personally really enjoy Final Doom, even though it's kinda hard.... namely Plutonia haha. But I personally recommend giving it a try! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Tony_Danza_the_boss Posted September 6, 2020 The more I play TNT, the more I actually love it. Some levels are without a doubt better than others, with the worst ones being giant keycard hunts but can still offer a definite challenge. Plutonia is Plutonia and is legendary for a reason. It won't ever get old 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Zulk RS Posted September 6, 2020 If by "Real Doom Game" you mean an official doom game released commercially by ID and NOT a bootleg, then yes, Final doom is real doom game. And it is also good. I personally don't like Plutonia and love TnT but that's just my preference. Both are good games. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Gez Posted September 6, 2020 It's a mixed bag. TNT Evilution has some very good maps, and some very bad ones. It also has cool music, except when it glitches out and sounds horrible. Plutonia is more consistent (after all, it was made by two brothers working together), and generally looks good, but also quite samey after a while. It's also significantly harder than Doom II or TNT. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
fufu Posted September 6, 2020 (edited) Yes it is, in my opinion it's a pretty good gateway into user-made doom content. Edited September 6, 2020 by Danzer 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Egg Boy Posted September 6, 2020 Worth playing for sure. TNT is basically a community project, almost every map is made by a different person, and so, varies in terms of fun and replayability. As has been already stated, Plutonia is more consistent, and also much more difficult. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
uber Posted September 6, 2020 It's basically Doom 2 taken to its two extremes: TNT focuses more on the exploration/worldbuilding aspect, while Plutonia is all about hard combat, traps and gimmicks. I personally enjoy Plutonia the most out of all the IWADs, as it's more consistent and has better replay value, but TNT does have some gems as well. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Chip Posted September 6, 2020 I just completed TNT, and I have to say, it was better than I thought. I only played like the first 5 maps, which were bland, then like a month later restarted and made my way to level 10. Then, I wanted to try NRFTL, and forgot about it until like 2 months later, where I made my way to level 21, which was too difficult for me, so again, I stopped playing. When I finally watched a playthrough of the level yesterday, and finished 21, I played the other 9 levels, and it was great! The design is amazing for 96, and the combat was flowing smoothly and in the end, was just a blast to play. I'm going to start playing Plutonia today or tomorrow. I think I'll be fine. I play on ITYTD, and I have only died in BTSX Ep. 2 like twice, and I heard Plutonia was easier than BTSX. The last map of TNT, with the Demon-Spitter is really interesting. There are several big puzzles that are pretty cool. The first is following a path based on color, since the other room had lights of the color of the blocks you had to step on, but if you failed, you failed the level. Then, there is a cyberdemon, which you can shoot with 2 BFG blasts because there is a invulnerability sphere right in front of you, and finally, the Icon of Sin itself (referred to as the Demon-spitter), which took me a while to figure out how to kill (and when I did, I didn't even notice I hit it, so I was making my way to the top platform when suddenly the game stopped, and showed me the end). check it out, definitely. It's also free now, if you have the Steam version, so there is no point in not trying it! ;) 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
Gez Posted September 6, 2020 Also if you have the GOG version of Doom II, Final Doom is included. (And the Master Levels too.) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

GarrettChan Posted September 7, 2020 Final Doom, is the *final* Doom games, heh. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Gerardo194 Posted September 8, 2020 (edited) Yes, it is. Tombstone from Plutonia and Mill from Evilution are my favorite maps Edited September 8, 2020 by Gerardo194 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
vanilla_d00m Posted September 8, 2020 (edited) I knew for shure I wasn't going to play this one because of how hard the first level was. I found some good tracks on evilution and it just wen't on from there. If you can.. try downloading this: https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/music/plutmidi and dragging the file to the .exe then running final doom (plutonia) since plutonia uses music from DOOM & DOOM II and has no music for itself. James did a great job on this one, I grinded through plutonia on a ps2 pad and it was the hardest thing I ever did in my life. The music helped. It's also significantly harder than Doom II or TNT. this. there are plenty of threads about the 2 parts of fd but this seems to be the consensus. luckily, neither has tnt its duds in the beginning, nor does plutonia start with really hard maps. so there's time to get warm with them and enjoy both. i'd say one should simply play them first and ask questions later. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Dark Pulse Posted September 9, 2020 It's worth a few bucks, though Plutonia had the better influence. TNT isn't bad either for about its first two-thirds (though some would disagree on certain maps), but the last third definitely has some less-than-stellar levels. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
DuckReconMajor Posted September 9, 2020 (edited) Turn down the difficulty on Plutonia and give it a go. I went through it and dropped the skill level as I went on and it's honestly the best doom2 iwad in many people's eyes (including mine). As mentioned Evilution is an acquired taste but it's worth at least one playthrough to see if you're one of those who favor it. NOTE! if you're playing in prboom-plus you cannot complete MAP30 of Evilution as it fixes a bug that's exploited to progress in the level near the end. edit: corrected, it's MAP30 not MAP29 Edited September 9, 2020 by DuckReconMajor 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Pirx Posted September 9, 2020 wasn't that map31 ? with the mp-only yellow key. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Dark Pulse Posted September 9, 2020 Just now, Pirx said: wasn't that map31 ? with the mp-only yellow key. That was a bug, which had a PWAD patch released. GZDoom-based ports fix it automatically now, too. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Thorogrimm Posted September 9, 2020 They're okay but I had more fun with the Master Levels to be honest 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
