How do I make colored sectors in Boom?

Question

Title. I want to make a room that where you'd flip a switch and the room would go red. I know it's possible but I don't know how to do it. How do I achieve it

Simply, you can't.

Only way to make colored sectors is using zdoom base ports, and i thing above 2.2 or so.
Not sure.
But thats not a feature present on boom format at all.

There are really strange ways to make colored sectors on vanilla-boom but that imply that you mess the colorpal and with just one color, and its not recomended as it mess the colours of the game if made wrong.

In thing like BOOMEDIT.wad they were able to make colored sectors. It did mention colormaps. That thing has all sorts of cool boom things

This is not correct, you can do it with the Boom linedef action 242, see https://soulsphere.org/projects/boomref/#ld242

 

There are some limitations, though, most noticeable is that the colormap is only applied when you are inside the tagged sector. A way to fake the coloring while you're outside the sector is to apply a texture of the color you want to the outside linedefs and give it the action 260 to make them translucent.
