Question

I often see people ask for vegetation and tree decorations/obstacles for their WADs. To help with this issue, post your favorite tree decorations here, preferably in Doom's default palette. If you decide to use a decoration here, make sure you have permission from the poster/author. :^)

You could rip some resources from Hexen or Heretic (in case you don't own the games they're probably one or two wads with their sprites and such)

Here's an old sprite I made, though it's for a small tree, if you'd want to I can try to create a large tree version

I was thinking of some green, lush trees. Thanks for the help though! I'll comb through the IWADS.

I saw those, and I thought they were def pretty nice. I might be able to use those with some color adjustments. The teals would contrast too much as is, haha.

These are two screenshots from my wad for reference (the bottom is in fullbright for visibility). Going for neon yellows, dark greens, dark browns, etc.

Was gonna say, I was wanting to put a couple small trees in a map I just started on.

I ended up going to google image search and grabbed some which already had a solid background color.

In my case, I was looking for some little Chinese trees though.

Kinda had the same idea. Might just be best if I do that. Maybe we could make a thread for good tree decor in general? I'm sure it would be useful for junior mappers like myself.

Actually that might be a good idea since it seems there's always someone looking for some trees. every body wants a different tree than everybody else though haha.

Hmm. Maybe a general tree library would be a good idea. Perhaps in a google doc or something? Stuff like that could be used for a variety of decor, now that I think of it.

Ancient Aliens has two good tree sprites. You don't have to ask for permission since they're freely available in the released textureset (in aa-mons.wad).

They could still stand to have some adjustments to get a little more white out of the background..

The trees in Eviternity are teal because Eviternity has a custom palette, which changes greens to be more teal. Without that palette, the tree sprites should appear more green in vanilla palette.

Interesting. I thought OTEX was based on the vanilla doom palette?

Firstly, while OTEX is compatible with (and based on) the vanilla palette, Eviternity comes with its own palette (not part of OTEX) that changes the blues and greens. Eviternity's palette changes blues to be less saturated and greens to be more teal-ish. The tree sprites are also affected by the Eviternity's palette. Without that palette, the trees would be more green and less teal.

 

Secondly, the tree sprites are not part OTEX (I am fairly sure they aren't).

I didn't see them in the texture WAD, so that would make sense as well

So I suppose, similar to the "Share your Sprites" thread, this is all about trees, sprites, models, voxels, etc.. 

am i right? ~ it would help everyone to have a go 2 thread, having to do with trees.

Found a bunch of trees from Blood with the help of Build Engine aficionados. They aren't in the default doom pallette, but SLADE3 should fix that quite nicely.

~ you know, there's something i've never seen which has to do with the animation.

so have the tree animate with/while an earthquake effect and cyber walking around.. stops when he dies?

Would something like that be possible in eternity or even gzdoom? Probably not vanilla compatible unless maybe you use that one level in thy flesh consumed where you have to kill the cybie to lower a wall or something like that
