door texture error (leveling)

Question

Trouble getting a door to work in Slade 3 for Mac OS X. Door opens fine in "inside" adjacent sector (tunnel) but HOMs in "outside" adjacent sector (outdoor area). Also weird HOM effect can be seen along side linedef of door sector above "wall" in back sector.

 

Inside sector has floor/ceiling heights of 0/72, outside sector 0/1000 (for sky), door sector 0/0. "Wall" adjacent to door are all lower textures raised with a 120/1000 "-" middle texture for outdoor effect. Making wall out of middle texture doesn't work, though I forget exactly how (I think it HOMs instead of grass+sky). Adjusting door sector height or making outside door texture middle or lower disables door altogether.

 

Is this an insuperable problem or is there something I can do?

This looks less like a HOM and more like a sky hack. The ceiling of your door sector is probably textured with F_SKY1.

 

This kind of rendering is done to allow creation of buildings of different height, but if you keep it by mistake, you'll get sky drawn in odd places.
