MUSICAL MAPPING

 

Musical Mapping is a seven map wads based on tunes. Each map is dedicated to a piece of music. We Took a piece of music and adapted it into a Doom map, either using the title, the lyrics, the music video, or whatever as long as a map takes inspiration from our music choice.

To make it even simpler, we made music videos in doom.

I hope you enjoy this wad. This was my first major CP, and I would again thank the people at PUSS for helping me host and run this project. I may return later for another project since this was fun.

You like Doom ,you like Music, and you like mapping for Doom? What if we took our favorite pieces of music and made Doom maps from those songs.

 

Take a piece of music and adapt it into a Doom map, either using the title, the lyrics, the music video, or whatever as long as a map takes inspiration from your music choice.

To make it even simpler, you are making a music video in doom.

 

One major thing to add is that it's recommended to either use a midi version or some other alternative to avoid all that copyright stuff. Try to find an instrumental or another edited version. If anything, just try to make sure your music won't get a streamer in trouble.

5 hours of mapping time. (Non consecutive of course) 

Slade doesn't count for mapping time

We are targeting Gzdoom.

Custom skies are required
Deadline:  March 16th

The only custom textures that we will use are Community Chest 4 Textures

Maps cannot go over 20 mins long

Difficulty settings should be added.

Crouching, Jumping, and Freelook are not allowed.

I want to thank the people the fine people at Pineapple Under the Sea for helping me host and run this project.
There is channels dedicated to this project so I recommend heading on over for extra discussion.
Anyways is a cool place for Doom stuff with cool people.

Really, really interesting concept! I made a similar thing for a (unluckily) dead community project based upon The Healer Stalks.

Some questions before do anything:

  • Are the maps been GZDoom compatible or it's the main port for maps?
  • Can we use different formats over than MIDI? Module music, free to use OGG/MP3, old games console music, etc?

  • Mh, i think CC4 textures are kinda limitating for me, perhaps use the 32 in 24 variant?

Non nonconsecutive. So I have to make the map in one go (short breaks permitted of course I guess) and have five hours maximum for that?

Great to see this project being launched! I have ideas for two maps already. I hope I can find the time and creativity to make them!

Anything that could work in gzdoom yes.

Yes of course, any piece of music works.

I played many community-made wads recently, and it made me realize how the music is crucial to build the atmosphere of the maps. This also reminds me of what MtPain27 said once in their videos, that is-- more often good music saves bad maps than good maps save bad music (or something like that)

 

Therefore, it's great to see a project which is focused on the aspect of the music selection. I'm looking forward to play this wad with all the amazing music in it once it's finished

Thinking of doing a last-minute submission. Is the deadline just the 16th wherever you are, or the 16th based on OP's time zone?

 

Whatever the case, I think I'll do the requisite boomer music track for my submission.

The deadline is very close to finish! If you havent submitted a map, worry not! There will be other chances to get your map in during beta releases.

 

I have also made a VERY basic M_DOOM, I hope to get some more detail in later

Interesting concept. I enjoyed the first two maps, but the cage fight in 'Head Like A Hole' was weird. It's on a timer, right? Somehow after the archvile spawned it didn't progress. Tried it again and after two minutes still nothing happened.
