DoomTheRobot Posted July 31, 2022 (edited) (TITLEPIC art by @Ayeloo) A collaborative Doom 2 mapping project created by DoomTheRobot and various members of Jonathan's Arcade, a community Discord. Maps vary from complete newcomers to experienced, with map formats ranging from Boom to UDMF. Mappers had roughly 3-4 months to map while another couple of months was spent fixing bugs and other various issues. Story: After working your ass off for several years, you finally get enough PTO to get a month long vacation. Tired and wanting a getaway, you go to one the most exotic places in all of brazil: Jericoacoara Beach. Little did you know that once you got there, you spot a bunch of demons eating all the sand and hogging up the waves. Looks like they also managed to take control of several other exotic locations and paradises around the world thanks to the UAC making quick teleportation to said locations easily available to the demons. Well, guess it's time to crash this party. Yes, that means Vanilla/Boom/UDMF, whatever! No jumping and/or crouching though! Tropical theme implies sandy beaches, cozy caves, vast jungles... You can make it as easy or as hard as you want. Just don't make it impossible... You can include any custom resource (monsters, textures, etc,.) with your map... ..As long as it doesn't replace any stock Doom 2 stuff. And isn't an entire TC or whatever. Oh, and no DeHacked either. Resource wad which has all the new textures and sprites can be found HERE. Textures are selected from UDMX and 32-in-24-15. New sprite replacements for several objects such as the torches that fit the theme (other stuff is currently a WIP) There are also some ZDoom exclusive textures and objects if you wish to use those. Some textures might be broken? I'm still going through the duplicates, so lemme know if anything is broken. Textures should be fixed now. But it's still not final, so expect updates. If you're using a texture pack like OTEX, don't include it with your submission, just lemme know what texture pack you're using and I'll add it during compilation. Deadline is August 31st, 2022! When submitting your map please include... Map Name Difficulty Settings Par Time Source Port/Complevel Music & Credit If your map uses any MAP07 or custom boss triggers PLEASE let me know! I can fix it during compilation using UMAPINFO... Not required but would be nice: Co-Op starts/DM Starts All of the maps will be compiled into one wad ordered by complevel and then by difficulty, which then can be selected using a GZDoom UDMF Hub Map. Ayeloo Posted August 6, 2022 UPDATE: Posting a beta version of Map 07 here if anyone feels like recording a demo (please do, It really helps speed up balancing [Also I'm not sure how this behaves in Zdoom/Gzdoom, I've only tested in DSDA and PR]). LPad Posted August 24, 2022 Well, to show you some stuff here, I made a small compilation of random sections of music I've made over the years for different projects outside of doom mostly, and some other ideas I have developed. I tried to narrow it down to certain slightly playful rhythmic stuff (it's still 12 minutes of musical sections), but it can certainly be something different too. I will definitely allow changes to be made to maps after said maps have been already submitted. You probably knew that already though but I wanted to reiterate that so there's no pressure at all, really. I will most likely have to spend a week compiling everything and probably another week or two finishing the HUB map... If push comes to shove I can make an exception for maps with significant progress that just need a little bit more work after the deadline. But I can work on it, it would be fun. Let me know if anything, so I could have some idea you'd like for the music or I could test the map and find out what could work. Or both. Although the three Boom-compatible maps work just fine in working as action showcases so I don't see too much of a problem (with the title cribbed from Sam Smith obviously being more atmospheric this time around). Sorry, I had to do a quick update to the WAD because the /idgames upload was rejected due to unmodified id Software resources (thanks SLADE) being included.
