Meowgi Posted October 30, 2022 (edited) IWAD: DOOM2.WAD [complevel 21] Tested with: DSDA-Doom v0.24.3 MAP Format: MBF21 Difficulty settings: Yes Co-op: Not currently implemented. Will be implemented for final release. YUM.wad is a short mapset made during nanowadmo 2022 with each map designed around various single fight setups as well as platforming challenges when launched with -nomonsters. The idea is to allow the player to inspect the fights prior to starting them, so they know which monsters will be placed prior to starting with no surprises or gimmicks. Please note: The intended difficulty is Ultra-Violence, but the fight balance is (hopefully) finely tuned for a skilled player. If you are having trouble with a particular map/fight, the difficulty settings only affect the amount of health/armor given when dropped to Hurt Me Plenty, and sometimes a more powerful weapon on the Easy difficulties. If you are struggling on UV, there is absolutely no shame in attempting the map on HMP, then coming back to UV when you've worked out a strategy! Monster behavior changes: There is a 1000 HP Cyber in some of these maps, noted by its grey wires (as opposed to fireblu for the normal variant) Archviles, Mancubi, Cacodemons, and Revenants cannot infight, but still deal damage to each other Spoiler MAP31 is accessible from MAP06, and MAP32 from MAP31 Origin/Limitations: Spoiler Creating this was mostly a mapping exercise for me; A way to work within specific limitations when building a map in order to focus on non-slaughter fight geometry and balance (as well as voodoo trickery). The specific limitations I gave myself were: - Uses a similar general design for each map (exit tele, fight platform, liquids, etc). - Focuses gameplay on two weapons per map. - All monsters are visible prior to starting the fight. - No more than 15-20 monsters as not to add too much complexity or length. - No items/pickups during any fight, including health. - Fights are aimed to be roughly a minute long. - Multiple fight strategies (in terms of target prioritization) should be viable.* - All 8 main maps have a No Monsters variant, designed to be challenging "W-Key" platforming.** *Besides MAP01, basically **Besides MAP08 MAP32 follows none of these rules whatsoever ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Screenshots, because why not?: Spoiler DOWNLOAB: idgames RC2 CHANGELOG: Spoiler RC2 Changelog: Removed nomo switch from: 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07 Cyberbruiser Pain sound muted Fixed Lost Soul Attack Sprite (SKULD1 was missing) MAP01: Closets close in Nomo now Minor Texture alignments 2.1: Adjusted shoot switch offsets and sky transfers MAP03: Fixed HOMs by Caco platforms and HOMs by one vile platform Sidewalls lowered slightly (to prevent it eating SSG shots and manc fireballs) MAP04: Monster-blocked lines around the arena so pinky cant be SSGed off Fixed minor lighting issues Minor texture alignments MAP05: Addeed two revenants to the fight Hid PE/Caco platforms MAP06: Fixed monster block lines for caco Removed extra bullets at start Removed final shoot switch sequence to trigger secret exit transformation 2.1: Spawned in voodoo closet fixed. MAP07: Minor Texture alignments MAP08: Changed Map name to "YUM" Minor Texture alignments MAP31: Barrels are hopefully fixed to kill HKs Barrels now telefrag arachnotrons Replaced shoot switches with bossactions on cybers Make cracks bigger and changed shape of arena to be more circular and less wide Removed extra cells at start Corrected intertext MAP32: Fight is 50% longer with a smoother difficulty curve. Imp waves spawn after the BFG, but before the Hell Noble waves. Megaspheres spaced out a bit more. Clock is functional forever.
