I did like it, even though Tyson type maps aren’t my thing. It was an interesting challenge! :)

I didn't realize till you called it a "tyson" map that that was a thing. I just thought it would be fun and difficult to play.

So right now I'm working on this wad called PRAY THY VOWS, a one-man project in which I will make giant gauntlet full of secrets, some details and fun enemy encounters which will give you a challenge, tho i have to enphasize the word (Try). and the map i'm going to share is very, very, very, VERY unfinished and still highly work in progress so ALOT will change from what you'll see here so pls cut me some slack. Hellish base.wad is an older version of the map, which was also my first ever attempt at making a doom map, PRAY THEY VOWS is a reprise.

@GreenSlayer idk if you did my map yet but I uploaded another version of the set.  Which includes a lot of improvments to map05 which  requested.  If you could download 1.4 version that would be awesome!  Thanks :)

You played the level really well in my opinion, at least you found the SSG unlike a few unfortunate folks, however you didn't find the Mega Armor, which is stored in a wall, where the monsters come out upon grabbing the Green Armor. You did praise the level when needed and deserved, and you pointed out some mishaps and mistakes when needed. Indeed, the level is a tad bit brown, I have moved on from using the same texture for the whole level fortunately; in fact, I am making a castle level for an upcoming megawad, and I must say that not only does the level play much smoother, but it also looks a hell of an lot better!

 

Probably the reason why the level is really brown is because I followed the '94 mapping principles a tad too closely, which resulted in the level looking and feeling much more old-school and vintage, but in turn, the level is rather dull looking in places, well, except in the sewers, which is probably the only thing I'd leave unchanged if I remade the map today. Oddly, the level was much less bland looking in it's early stages, as I had planned on creating more cracked ceilings, busted up walls, and more lava! ;) Also early in the maps development, replacing the Mega Armor was an Soulsphere, which you could see behind a cracked wall. The point I'm trying to make is that the level could've had much more potential, if I had not followed the mapping philosophy of yesteryear, but hey, it has that vintage mood I love in Doom levels, so I still quite like it.

 

I was rather disappointed, because you didn't showcase or at least talked about the Deathmatch demo on this map,  fighting Snowy with just a keyboard and a crappy connection made me feel like I broke through my skill ceiling, but I suppose someone playing through my crappy levels is already enough work as it is! :)

 

I liked how you showcased the ENDOOM screen at the end of the video, it looks rather simplistic I know, but you could say it's: CHARMING hahaha! ;)

Well, here's a map I finished 2 years ago:

1. Source Port: any PrBoom+ compatible sourceport. (GZDoom is fine)
2. Map Number#: 14
3. Map Name: Forkress of Doom
4. Difficulty: Varies, probably Easy to Medium difficulty on HMP. (Difficulty settings are implemented.)
5. How many maps: Single map from 3x3ttwo.wad, MAP14.
6. Map Format: Boom format with MBF sky transfers. (Doesn't work on non-Boom-compatible ports)
7. IWAD: Doom2.wad
8. Notes:

Spoiler
  • Map is balanced for Pistol start.
  • The map is part of a community project where mappers were allowed to use only 3 flats, 3 wall textures, and 3 enemy types. (But lock textures, exit sign and the sky flat was also allowed.)
  • [Ignore this part if you don't care about 100% stats] If you want 100% stats, it is not necessary to visit all the branches in the map for the full stats, and there is no one correct path either. It is designed so that you can always get full 100% stats, regardless of which path you chose. Backtracking is limited in the map, so it's possible to miss something though if you go past a point of no return too early.
  • At some point in the map there is a path with a bit of a puzzle to it. If you don't like puzzles, just go back the way you came, and choose another path instead. Or bruteforce it, I guess.

9. Map description:

A loosely castle themed map with a couple of gimmicks involving weapon pickups and level progression. In certain rooms, you'll have to decide on your preferred weapon (or not if you aren't pistol starting). You'll also encounter rooms that branch into 3 different paths; You'll need to pick one.

Sorry for the bump, but an important note on the map: If you use a sourceport with complevels, make sure to use at least -complevel 11.

Default settings in GZDoom should be fine though.
(Double post because if I simply edited my old post, that might go unnoticed by GreenSlayer who already saw the previous post prior to this update.)

Uhh so far I have not seen anyone actually getting the puzzle, so I suppose I failed to make it clear enough...

Actually the monsters that did not get teleported in, will get crushed before you finish the level, so there is no need to try every option.

Your natural talent to solve these puzzles without thinking too much is impressive for sure! :P

 

 

As for the final arena, you were actually meant to have two of the stronger weapons (SSG, Rocket Launcher, Plasma Rifle), however you dropped down to the final arena, before visiting the other item room on the right side (path visible at 2:09:50), so you ended up missing out on the Rocket launcher or Plasma rifle in there. Maybe I should have blocked the way forward before both item rooms are visited.


Well either way, nice job in powering through the final part with just the SSG!

But i wanted to mention that E2M1 is basically a short and sweet map, i wanted it to act like a hub where E1M8 ended and where E2M2 starts. It's meant to be more of a "whats to come next" in the story of the episode. Also when you said "i'm trying not to be an ass to point out the mis aligned textures" i'm not really worried about that, i'm more worried about seeing if there's any game breaking bugs or area's i need to go back into and rework. I am currently on a mapper burnout so unless there's a major bug that needs to be fixed then i will go back in and fix it, until then it's good to go.

Also DCLXVI is 666 in roman numeral since i like to be out there with some of my maps which you'll see later when doing the rest of episode 1 and then episode 2. 

 

Episode 3 had three maps that are not playable since there placements or work in progress and episode 4 is just a sky box, nothing cool or radical about it.

 

Overall i'm glade you like it more then hell reveal maps.....which i've never played

@xScavengerWolfx I will definitely do more episode 1 before 2! I like your attention to atmosphere and have a great knack for making small, but enjoyable maps! And...don't play Hell Revealed. It's torture lol.

6. Map Format and what source ports it won't work on: I only tested it with GZDoom probably wouldn't work with other ports
7. IWAD or other required files: Doom 2
8. Any other important things or details: crouch, jump and freelook are allowed. This is a close quarters non-linear map.

 

I really, really need some feedback.
