I C H I N I C H I (32-map megawad)

Screenshots look great.

I've played KINDa before. Great set that people should talk about more.

Congrats on your release! :)

As a tester, I will say that this has also been tested fully on Doom Retro, Nugget Doom, and Zandronum (in 2-3 person co-op). Everything works great, and megawad is just as good for co-op.

Well and the megawad itself for a few passes I liked, and one of the passes was on UV-MAX(100/100/100) No Saves. Good Scythe-style format in that the maps are short and intense. Plus the maps themselves are very different and you can see that the author was inspired by the aesthetics of all 4 IWADs at once. I recommend it to everyone.

Made it to map19 so far. I love this wad so much.
It's got such a nice classic feel to it, can't help but think Scythe, TNT, and some Plutonia.

I love the variety of themes, and the plethora of ideas this wad holds (especially the secret levels!)

Also... beware of the peeping head.

Oh cool! I remember KindA I have a couple speed demos of it on DSDA and Veinen ran the whole set Max. Look forward to this coming to ID games will probably make some demos for it when it does (hopefully there's some stuff we can break that testers don't find hehehehe)!

Nice Work!

My gameplay of levels 1 to 4. Its a nice mapset. At the moment it's quite relaxed in terms of difficulty, and I think that's precisely why it encourages me to play more. I haven't seen any obvious problems either, so good job!

Congratulations! It's great that you finally released this!

I'll be playing your new creation as soon as possible, screenshots are intriguing, I'm very interested in how your gameplay creativity has evolved since KindA.

Great job Whoosh! It truly shows how great your talent is, being able to release in such a short period of time and without years of experience, not one, but two whole megawads of high-quality and very polished work! I sense a bright future ahead for you in the community. And, who knows, maybe even a Cacoaward could be on its way...

Wow, you finish all those in one day?

(get it? because ichi nichi「一日」is one day in Japanese)

Just played up to MAP09 on UV and I gotta say this is one of my favorite WADs in recent memory. It's like if Scythe's sequel followed the first's structure more closely and leaned further into the TNT inspirations (every map had me saying "man I wonder if this guy likes TNT or not"). Couple things so far though. First, on The Archives (MAP04 I think?), there's a sequence where you're supposed to hit the switch and run up the bookcase in time to platform over to a switch which can be essentially skipped due to the player being able to hit the switch from below. Not that big of a deal but maybe something you'd want to fix if you do an update. Second, The Host (MAP06) while not too difficult or confusing is a bit of a weird level that reminds me of an episode two TNT map. It's a bit too big and under-populated, the roaming cyberdemon doesn't pose much of a threat at all and I ended up just killing him early when I rightfully assumed I wouldn't need him for some big ambush. The whole thing had me expecting some big twist that never came. Every map sort of had this disjointed feel to it but most in a good way that kept you on your toes. Anyways, I'll probably finish this WAD and either edit this post with more thoughts or just post a follow up. Great stuff so far.

This was really good! I played through all of it in one day today. I played on HMP and I had to clip myself through a wall in one or two of the later maps because I just couldn't find the way to progress, but that's a problem I have with every wad if the maps get too complex... I particularly liked the style of the more abstract maps, map 5 being my favorite. Congrats for getting a megawad out!

This was a new surprise today, exactly what I was looking for. Up to map 16 and it's been showing some positive growth since your former wad KINDa, which I liked and met with some issues myself in the past. This new one I'm enjoying consistently. It reminds of Demonfear at times, I'm sure people who liked that one will certainly enjoy this one too. Congrats on the release!

On MAP10 it's possible to jump into the two courtyards at the northwest end (they both have a revenant and cacodemon, sectors 213 and 243). However it's not possible to head back so there's a softlock with those courtyards.

Finnished this today. Found two things worth looking at in case you're open for a bugfix/update in the future:

Spoiler

- In map 24, line 413 with switch action is facing the wrong side. You can still press the sides of the gargoyle face and open the secret, though this may be unintuitive. Pretty sure you meant the face to be what players need to press.

- In map 30, the secret can't be registered as there's the little pole in the middle, so you can't touch the actual flagged sector.

Thanks for the positive feedback! I’m really happy that you’re all enjoying the maps. I’m also relieved that the maps are playing well with little to no bugs!

Regarding one of the minor bugs listed above:

Spoiler

@galileo31dos01, In MAP30, I’ve managed to tag the secret sector and obtain 100%. Is this related to the secret armour behind the lift?

Up to map 18 so far (secret maps already beaten) and this wad is great fun!

If you enjoyed last year's Anomaly Report and Nostalgia or have been sorely missing shorter classic levels a la Scythe, then this megawad is for you!

No bugs to report btw, the testers did a fantastic job!

What does the title mean?

It translates as ‘one day’ in Japanese, as each map took up to 24 hours to create (not including tinkering time post-beta testing feedback). It was a great way to create short to medium sized punchy maps!
